1. Hmm, that's strange. The XLR out on mine has no effect on the signal to the cab. Did you use the XLR out or the 'send' jack? I assume the FX loop is in series so taking a feed from the Send output would most probably kill the signal to the speaker. Aled
2. I have for sale a TC Electronic C300 two channel rackmount (1u) compressor / gate. In great condition as it has more or less been racked from new. Can be used as stereo compressor/gate, or as in dual mono series (gate into compressor, vice versa, two compressors in series etc) Has a useful Mix control for parallel compression, and outputs on phono SPDIF as well as jacks. £100 + postage.
3.
The neck is definitely more P than J. Still quite chunky.
Quite. Wider and shallower than my (MIM) Jazz.
4. Why not try connecting the iPad to a small stage monitor/powered PA cab?
5. Great, will have a read of that new. I bought it as I was looking for a compressor a pedal and a subtle room reverb for bass, and realised that the Zoom was cheaper than two decent pedals. I have a few songs in sets requiring and octaver, and one with spring reverb/tremolo, and the Zoom seems to have that covered as well... so I sold my tuner, octaver, Boss FDR1 and a few other pedals, bought the B3 and I'm a good few quid up! As much as I'm loving the Fliptop model, I didn't buy for the amp emulations, it's just that I haven't got round to plugging into my gigging set up yet (Orange OTB and SP212). I don't think I'll need the models for live work as I like the Orange. For direct recording though, it's looking to be ace!
6. Cheers! So far, I think it's bloody great, and I haven't really moved from the Ampeg Fliptop model, and barely any effects!
7. Just found this http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=56497 Seems I'm stuck with. I'll check my Jazz one just in case that'll fit.
8. Afternoon, i've just bought a pickup cover for my new Precision, as well as a gold anodized scratchplate. Both are genuine Fender parts, but the cover is too big for the holes in the scratchplate (the plate has pre-drilled holes for the cover and a tug bar). I think the plate is a 50s spec one - did the use smaller pickup covers back then? Where do I get them?!
9. ...and a quick bash with the looper. These toys are fun! https://soundcloud.com/#melynwy/bass-looper-demo
10. Quick and dirty sound clip: https://soundcloud.com/melynwy/bass-demo Apologies for the sloppy playing. Still getting to grips with roundwounds!
11. It's awesome. Absolutely fantastic. I'm even liking the stock rounds (having played the same set of flats for 3 years!) The Zoom B3 that arrived this morning seems to be the best use of £150 ever as well. Stock (sorry about the large photos!): New scratchplate:
12.
Expensive... But cheaper than the competition.
You think so? I think it's ridicilously cheap for what it is! I'd love one.
13. Couldn't agree more - about reviews and shop assistants. Last time I asked to try a bass in a shop, the guy spent a good 2 or 3 mintues slapping the thing with his back turned to me. By all means plug it in, sound a note to check everything's working, but then hand it me. I could have walkes out and he wouldn't have noticed. I'd never expect a sports shop assistant showing me how far he can drop kick a rugby ball I'm thinking of buying, so the need by music shop assistants to show off really annoys me. I don't care what they do outside of work - at the time that I'm contact with them they're sales assistants, not rock stars. And most review videos I see online are bloody useless. Though I do like that Ed Friedland chap's reviews.
14.
No, but they had purple ones!
Hmmm. Do Orange do purple amps then? If not, I'm sure they will once they see this.
15. Cool. Did they have orange ones?!
16. In 6 months I've completely changed my bass rig. Got the Orange Terror Bass and SP212 back then, and now a new Fender P on the way, as well as this new Zoom. Will post thoughts when it gets here. Exciting times.
17. Now sold
18. As title. Great condition (rubber feet have been removed I think) £35 + postage
19. Ordered!!
20. Will be ordered tomorrow hopefully, alongsied a set of LaBella 760M - the 'Jamerson' super heavy gauge set - I'm I justified in my confidence that they will be fine seeing as the bass has one of those graphite truss rods? I'm no good at tweaking truss rods.
21.
Gotta be gold. Have you though about an off white though? Like the parchment colour or the Greeny one?
I think the stock one is parchment. I'm starting to like the black now though...
22. I switch between a Jazz and an EB0 without trouble (though not often - I mainly play the J)
23. I haven't tried one, I just like the look! I think the nut width is the same as an US Standard, but shallower front to back. I hope it's not too J like as that's the main reason I want a P - I much prefer the necks, even on the cheapest copies. I see some Ps have a 1.75" nut - is this standard these days, or just on a few reissues (I know I tried the Mex 50s P which had a 1.75 nut and it felt huge - I liked it, but if the slightly smaller nuts are the standard on most P style ones then I'd be happy with that too)
24.
The heads must be a different thing to the combo then.
I think the combos are the OTB500 and an SP212 cab in the same box, nothing else. I had the combo for a while, but it was faulty (speaker was buzzing slightly at all volumes - they did mention there was a problem with the entire combo line and thought of withdrawing them, but that hasn't seem to have happened) so Orange replaced it with the separate head and cab instead - I didn't notice any difference. I really like mine - it breaks up quite early, but I play very lightly and don't have a problem with clean headroom. Keeping the gain low (at around 9 o clock), I find there is plenty of volume left on tap. Most of the time I go through the PA as well, but there hasn't been a problem in quite loud pub gigs with only a vocal PA either, with plenty of volume left. Aled
25. Right, had a bit of a crude geek around on Paint! I think that the gold works best. Though I'm still tempted by the red (despite the fact that it's gone royally wrong in my pic!)
