1. I ordered an Artec SE3P-A... vol, pan, stacked bass/treb and stacked mid/sweep. The plan is to fit it into my SX Jazzebel project :). I'm also thinking of reviewing it for the, errm, Reviews section. 28 quid for a 3 band EQ is definitely worth checking out.

  2. Fcking hell, lighten up a bit will you? I wasn't trying to bait anyone.
It's nice to know you hold me in such high regard that you think I'd go out of my way to do that. Thanks a bunch.

  3.
Basschat is a community - a Spartan community. We are the Helots, the Mods are the Spartans, and there are 2 Kings. Bassworld only had one king but he had the power etc.
And it came to pass that etc.
I am not the first to fall from favour and many have been exiled by the Kings etc.
Blimey, just for a second I was back in my 3rd year History class. I swear I could almost hear old Evans droning on about Magellan and Copernicus and threatening us with detention. :)

  4.
I like the BBs but that looks horrid to me. It's like someone drunkenly played around in photoshop
Good god, it does doesn't it?

Well... get thee to a luthier! :) It needn't be expensive.

  5. Thanks guys... starting to look like tort ;)
Although just to be blimmin awkward, I found a pic of a pale yellow 70s Jazz with maple block neck and a black pickguard... and it looks sooo cool :)... think a black one might be on order soon...

    EDIT: this is the pic:

  6. I ordered an SX neck in maple with pearly blocks last week... it arrived on Friday. Here's some pics.

It's superb... nice woods, finished in a flawless high gloss, even on the board, which to my amazement is bound... although as you can see the binding is a bit plasticky and not great. In spite of what the Rondo site said, it DID come with the nut... so that's one less thing to buy! The headstock is blank and decal-free, which is nice. I did consider getting a spoof decal made up of the 'Fecker' variety, but the gloss finish is so nice I don't want to muck about with it. So I'm going to leave it blank. Overall it's an incredible bargain for $113 including shipping... sixty-ish quid? Brilliant!
I've fitted the tuners, D-tuner and string tree. It needs a bit of sanding down to fit in the body's neck pocket, but at least that means it'll be a good firm neck joint. I've got an Artec 3-band eq in the post, and next to order is a decent bridge and a set of knobs.

My main problem now is that I can't decide if I prefer the white plate or the torty... opinions please?

  7.
I know what you mean when questioning the lack of bottom end on a jazz... Or is it just plain output? I'm seriously falling out with my Geddy Lee in this respect. I love the sound of the bass in isolation, but in a band situation it just lacks any balls. Compared to my active basses (Status, Warwick, Yamaha, etc) I have to increase the input stage by 25% & the bass frequency by about 10%. The jazz just ends up sounding harsh to me.

Rob Green at Status has offered to rout out some cavities in it & make it active with T-Bass electronics & I'm sorely tempted :)
Or get a J-Retro..?

  8.
How long do 'average' leads last- say, Planet Waves?
Compare that to the leads that OBBM or others similar make- what is the life-expectancy of these leads when used regularly?
Just because I could, (hey, I was young and reckless) I bought an MIT lead that was mentioned earlier in this thread.
I must have paid around £80 for it and got about 7 years constant use from it.
I now have a Monster cable which cost half of that and it is into year 4.
I think I can beat that a bit...
I have two Klotz cables that are now entering their 22nd year of faultless service with me :)

  9.
I'd never heard of John Giblin before he was in Simple Minds, and then a friend played me Brand X Products.

The track "Wal To Wal" with Percy Jones is fantastic. Simple Minds just didn't highlight his talent at all.
He's all over Kate Bush's earlier work too. Think 'Babooshka'. Also, Fish's first solo album 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors' contains some of his beautiful fretless work, especially 'State Of Mind' and 'Family Business'.
