1. If you've found no one by the end of the week, I can ask my manager to book the 3rd and try and learn the set like the back of my hand. TK
2. My partner and I have decided to split up so unfortunately I won't be able to attend this one. I hope to attend another though!
3. The site is now 100% working! Check it out.. www.tomkentmusic.co.uk
4. Practice the intonation with other strings that are in tune. E>E A>A D>D G>G and then work from there.
5. Just got two confirmed high paying gigs for July so can attend now! See you there!
6. Summer rates now in effect; email me at [email protected] for more info!
7. I'm currently available for gigs around the UK and most of Europe. I've been playing guitar and bass for roughly 10 years, however flute has been played for about 13 years (but that's not to say it's my main instrument). I've played with many artists over the years of playing including live work with Chad Smith (RHCP) and studio work with Mike Rutherford. Other work includes artists like Kelly Clarkson, Natasha Bedingfield & Kenny Jones (The Small Faces). I'm a very competent sight-reader and can improvise very well. I also play a variety of styles and have a large collection of equipment including a rather large and loud bass rig and and equally powerful guitar rig. I am more than happy to do backing vocals and/or swap instruments mid way through a set! Check out some very old demos here; www.tomkentmusic.co.uk - also noting the site is under construction (you go to a sub page) but 'should' be up and running soon with new demos and maybe even videos!
8. Last bump before I withdraw.
9.
Cool - can you tell us who it is (yet)?
As he's not confirmed, I shan't mention his name yet. On a side note, I may now not be attending. I have VERY little money left.. my own fault entirely.
10.
Not learning per se but I am looking at the six Bach Cello Suites at the moment. Great reading practice and great for learning your way around the double bass without looking at your left hand fingering. Its also helping me nail my intonation. Also makes peractising more interesting that running straight scales and arpeggios.
I also recently looked at this, however it was on electric bass.
11. Does no-one want my baby? :'(
12. I'll be buying this, as if I do have time to practice a song/set before a gig/session I have to do it on the train or on the way! Looks brilliant..
13.
Some great stuff on Stefan Redtenbacher's site.[plenty of funky stuff] http://stefanredtenbacher.com/transcriptions/ For Pop stuff, [ once on site just click on Basslines] http://thelibster.com/bass/ This one is everthing Jazz & Bop. [ in Both Bass & Treble clef] http://bopland.org/find-lick.html?quest_id...ems_per_page=10 Garry
They're all brilliant. Funnily enough I use to get taught by Stefan, brilliant bassist and brilliant tutor. That pop link is fantastic!
14. That's a shame, I've been playing gigs with Barry for many years now! I'd bring my HiWatt head but I just don't trust anyone playing through it bar me, it's still got the original 70s valves!
15.
I'm Based in the thriving metrolopiss of Farlington just a couple of mins from Rowlands Castle I will turn up with my gear again this thusday and if someone has "beat me to it" well so it goes and if my gear is set up and anyone wants to join in they are more than welcome to make use such as it is. To be honest Im not very good at what they want to do so they might be looking for someone with more experience but Im happy to make a fool of myself as and when required. And for those that dont know the pub is run by Herbie Armstrong ex Van morrison amoung others who plays and sings very nicely indeed john
I'll be along with my '4' but no amp, I tended to use the pubs as it was a decent Trace. See you there!
What happened to Barry?
I wondered the same thing myself, other commitments perhaps?
Rowlands Castle is just a couple of minutes from where I live. I might have to take a trip up there and check things out. I have played there once or twice and played with Herbie a couple of times at the old open mic night that Keith used to run.
This one is now run by Keith, so it'll be like old times!
It's a bit too far out of Southsea for me to make use of the 'free drink' situation and be able to drive home Sounds good though, might have to pop along some time...
Do it!
16.
Been meaning to work out how to play 'She Said' for a while, any tips?
Might chart it out as I need to get my 'charting ears' working again. Will PM you if I do.
17. May be bringing a friend with me, alas he's not any friend. He's a fantastic bassist, in-fact he makes me look like I'm a little kid playing bass. He's played with amazing people around Europe. He also has some amazing gear so again would make my gear look crap.
18.
Funny but I too have been asked to do this did last Thursday so I wonder if this means that they dont want me to do this Thursday not to worry happy to do it whenever nice pub and only a five min drive from my house so on that note TK if your the man and I can help just ask. John
I think they're just asking everyone so everyone turns up, or.. I don't know haha. I wondered why there was a decent rig up there for once in the group photos! Where are you based? Also, it's the one in Rowlands Castle. I relate anywhere within 10 miles of Portsmouth as Portsmouth, as I spend too much time in Guildford/London.
19. The Fountain Inn.
20. 21. It'll be one of main session bassists in London I suspect. Which one though..
22. Hey Dave, Are your gigs paid? If so, I know a very VERY good double bassist who might be interested. TK
23. Basically, I've been offered 'house bassist' at a Jam night in Portsmouth (on a thursday [every thursday]). Due to the nature of my current business, I'm slightly concerned about not being able to make every week and letting them down. SO. I need a very good local bassist on my books to fill in for me when I can't do it. It's unpaid but you get unlimited free drinks all night, and it's a good friendly pub. PM me with previous experience, equipment and any demos you have. The more styles the better! TK
24. Still hoping I can come, will bring my fretless p-bass (which is in.. dire need of a setup!) and my fretted jazz. My rig is too big for me to be bothered with, so I will just be bringing the instruments. I've become incredibly lazy recently, oh dear!
