I saw that one @ped . Beautiful. If it was a 4-stringer I’d have tried to buy it - the triple pickup setup is really interesting to me.

The Herrick website is broken, won’t load on a phone on Chrome or Safari. Weird

I’d hack up a cheaper bass wherever possible…the BB734 is not cheap!

It’s been a journey for me too …I am very emotionally invested lol. I’ve learned a lot. Not only have I had to make sure all the bass tech work is done and I can actually play properly…which is agonising as I get ‘red light syndrome’…I’ve had to learn how to speak to the camera, scripting, lighting, mic placement, more about proper sound editing, video editing (ongoing), loudness mastering for different services, how to manage YouTube in general including branding and artwork…still though I love it now!

Ok, latest video should be up soon. Still processing right now so give it a couple... Link below!

Apologies for delays in posting more video - I am literally just editing the next video now. The next two videos after that are mapped out too - one with a new preamp, then another with a new set of pickups and another matching preamp. @MrDinsdale I’d be very tempted to hack up a project bass first. A bunch of the Yamahas are basically ideal, mainly because they feature multi laminate necks and (sometimes) mahogany bodies already, depending on the model. The custom instrument route is much more expensive. And you have to know *exactly* what you want. Most people don’t, really…or it changes as things go on…

New video coming soon…just editing it now…sorry for the delay!

You’re too kind! The problem is, I sort of get an idea in my head and I can’t leave it alone. This one’s been knocking around since my last double P attempt, which morphed into the Wal-ish. It’s expensive…

J Tone in my Squier Jazz. Brilliant bit of kit.

I’ll start a new thread and post a video when I’ve actually got the new bass up and going. It’s still being worked on. Both pickups will be reversed compared to the normal orientation. The EA coil on each will be centred on where 60’s Jazz Bass positions are, and the DG coils will be north of that in each. Like this bass - https://www.talkbass.com/threads/nbd-double-reverse-p.1143531/ It will be on a Jazz body like the Fender Blacktop Jazz basses.

I’m busy having another go at a Dual Precision pickup bass. My first attempt eventually foundered because I put the rear pickup too close to the bridge. I went throughs lot of the same agonies over pickup choice as the OP even then. Great to see this thread now, I think the advice is spot on. I have a Fender CS 62 in my ‘flats’ bass now. Because my new project needs two pickups and that could get expensive for the top name stuff, and I like the CS 62, I went for two Tonerider Precision pickups. The rumour is they are quite similar to the CS 62 I have. It’s good to see that opinion in this thread too. I can only hope!

Just bought Jason's Squier VMJ 77 Bass, easy transaction with smooth comms and quick shipping. The bass is utterly pristine. Thanks again Jason! Pete

Howdy howdy all Picked this up as it was an unusual one, and I've had a fascination with dual Precision pickup basses, including building my own. Unfortunately I need cash for another hare-brained project, so it's time to trim the herd down a bit, and this was the most recent acquisition. It is the ballsiest sounding passive bass I have ever heard. There's just no other way to put it. It has a huge low end and a lot of grind. The tone knob tames it though, if needed. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, 9.5" radius, high mass bridge. Weight is 4.45kg on my kitchen scales. One tuner replaced with Hipshot tuner HB7 as there was a detuner installed by previous owner (and the original tuner was long gone). You can still see the old outline. Plus it once wore a pick holder on back of the headstock. Otherwise it's stock. Tons of wear, dings, scratches, you name it, mainly on the body, few dings on neck. Doesn't matter to me, it feels and looks great. It has polished up well and takes a nice low action with minimal relief. It's a nice neck and has decent frets with plenty of life. Truss rod works as it should. They seem pretty rare. It's a nice bass. I'm looking for £550 + shipping. Open to offers. Pete

Morning all. Just wanted to post an apology for less activity. Turns out the gastroenteritis I thought I had was actually a form of colitis. Bit of a rough summer with a few trips to hospital, tests, etc etc. However I’m coming back to life again and will shoot some video and post some updates. I’ve had a while to live with the bass as it is and it’s been useful.

Whoa. £5k is ambitious. I’m doubtful of that getting achieved. The colour is…not for me, either.

Wal-style knobs - anyone produce them?

How did you work out how far the numbers had to go round to match the limits of how far the pots can turn? Do different pots have different rotational travel distances? -
Just sold a Hipshot D Tuner to Kenny, very straightforward transaction with easy communications and quick payment. Thanks again Kenny!
