Thanks for the reply. I’ve just taken the shine off, and tried not to overdo it. The only picture I have on my phone is below, but I can take some better ones tonight.

Hello all. I've just used Scotchbrite pads to remove the gloss finish on my Starfire bass. I'm very pleased with how it's looking, but am not sure if I should be rubbing some MusicNomad Guitar Detailer or similar into the body as a layer of protection. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

I have a couple of these (one in each colour) and absolutely love them. I would say the perfect bass for me and what I play. The red one I have just had binding fitted to the f holes as I prefer the look (I had used a Posca Pen on the f hole first to see). Both are fitted with TI short scale flats. I had an Epiphone Rivoli hard case which fits perfectly, and got a Warwick Semi Rockbag for gigs where walking's involved. Enjoy!

Just to update, I liked it so much better the bass is now with a luthier getting binding added. -

Having no patience, I got some Uni Posca Ivory Pens today and had a go. Only the first layer, but I’m pleased with how it’s looking. -
Refinishing a Guild Starfire / f hole painting

That's true, maybe I'm just thinking of doing it for the sake of it.... Looking at the basses last night, I think I'd be happier if the f holes could be more prominent, like on a Gretsch. Has anyone tried using pen paint on the inside edge of an f hole to make it stand out more? -

I did have a Starfire II in the past, but I find these ones a little more compact and playable. -
Refinishing a Guild Starfire / f hole painting

Thanks for the replies, I'm not intending to do it myself, I just wondered if it might work. I didn't know John Lennon did a similar thing, I assumed his Casino was the original finish. I messaged my local luthier last night and he said it might be possible to strip one and use a dull French polish to get a natural finish.... -
Hello all. I’ve got a couple of the new Guild Starfire 1 basses that I have absolutely fallen for in terms of what I need in a bass. My only wish was that one could be in a natural blonde finish. Does anyone know if it’s possible to refinish one, maybe by sanding the finish and using some sort of light wood stain? And would it be a costly process if someone could do it? Cheers.

Up for sale is my Epiphone Masterbilt DeLuxe Century archtop acoustic bass. I bought this new in 2018 and have gigged it regularly since. Although well gigged, it has been babied so is in great condition, with only a couple of small marks on the body. Fitted with Labella 760N Black Nylon strings, which I think are an improvement on the stock D'addario tapewounds. The original piezo pickups on these are ok, but I wanted something better, so I had some dialog with Aaron at Kent Armstrong pickups about other options that would work for me. He wound me a custom floating pickup which transformed the live sound, giving a lovely warm, full tone. This has been wired directly to the output jack, with the piezo disconnected. The bass now has a beautiful double bass type sound which worked brilliantly for the old time stuff I played. Also sounds great unplugged, and is louder with roundwounds, but I prefer the tone of the nylon strings. The bass has the matching Epiphone hard case. I will include some Bobs Fits F hole blockers made especially for the bass. I got these in case I had any issues with feedback on bigger stages, but I’ve never had to use them. The original tuner buttons have been replaced with Schallers. £695 ono. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk. I have a box so shipping is also a possibility. Cheers.

There's a Transcribed Scores book you can probably find on eBay.

I've ended up getting a red one to go with my brown. Still loving these basses.

SOLD: Gretsch New Yorker archtop

I'm looking to swap/part-exchange my Gretsch New Yorker for an electric guitar. It's a lovely guitar in great condition, fitted with Martin Monel 11-52 strings and with an action of 2mm at the 12th fret. It plays really well and sounds great. I have lighter strings on it as a wrist injury means I struggle with heavier. That's the reason I'd prefer an electric, to go even lighter on the strings. I have a JJB Prestige 220 transducer pickup (basically a K & K Pure Archtop) that I was going to have fitted, but have never got around to. I will include that along with a hardcase. Swap wise, I'd prefer something traditional (nothing too modern or pointy). The Gretsch would be around £350 in trade value, and I'm happy to add a bit of cash. Please let me know if you have anything and are interested. Cheers.
