Thanks for the replies. I’m using TI flats, which I’m hoping will give some definition and less mud. The piezo fitted isn’t great and feedbacks too easily to make the bass giggable.

I’m interested in peoples experience with getting an upright like sound. I have a hollowbody archtop bass that I’m going to fit with a Hofner humbucker but I’m undecided on where exactly to fit it. I’m going to fit a volume and tone control too. My instinct is to put it right at the neck, but I was interested in if I’m missing anything. I guess there might be a sweet spot which might not actually be right against the neck…… cheers.

Up for sale is my beautiful Epiphone Masterbilt Century De Luxe archtop bass guitar in great condition. Comes fitted with D’addario Nylon Tapewound strings which give a nice upright like tone via the internal Shadow pickup and preamp. Also included is a Gator hard foam case. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk much preferred, but I can post. £600

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure from reading the Guild forum that the pickups are standard precision size under the covers. Being fairly green to all of this, I did wonder if the loom would change much, so I'll probably get that done first and see how it goes. I'm using TI Jazz Flats (I tried Labellas too) to get closer to the sound I'm after.

I have a Guild Starfire 1 bass that I love, however I’ve begun to speculate over if a pickup/wiring upgrade would make it sound even better. I have a KiOgun loom I’m planning to get fitted as I imagine it’ll be an improvement on the current wiring, plus stock it has a push/pull volume pot that I never use. However, I was wondering if people would recommend changing the pickup too? I play old soul and funk so was looking at a Fender Custom Shop ‘62 pickup. Does anyone think it’ll make a big difference? Another consideration is the pickup can only really get to within 4mm of the strings when setting up, so would another pickup be better suited…. These are just thoughts so any input/advice would be helpful. Cheers.

I bought a couple of Japanese Fenders earlier this year. Both transactions were fine, delivery was only a few days each time. Fedex handled the import charges on my behalf and I paid them back (both times after the basses were delivered). As long as the seller is decent, does the correct paperwork and packs well it should be easy.

I’m selling this lovely little archtop bass as I tend to use my Guild Starfire for everything nowadays. I’ve not seen another and don’t really know a lot about it. It’s 30” scale, fully hollow, plays great and sounds lovely for acoustic stuff. Currently fitted with TI jazz flats, with an action at the 12th fret of 2.25mm on the bass side and 2mm on the treble. I preferred it without the pickguard but have put it back on for the pictures. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk preferred but I can double box it for a courier. £350.

Up for sale is my 2018 Recording King RO-T16 acoustic guitar in excellent condition. A lovely playing and sounding guitar, with a 1 3/4" nut and great feeling neck. Set up with an action at the 12th fret of 2.5mm on the bass side and 1.75mm on the treble side. There is plenty of scope to go lower if required as the neck angle is good. An extremely playable guitar that’s only for sale as all my guitar time is taken up with bass playing. Comes with a hard case. £400. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk preferred, but I can post

Up for sale is my Guild Starfire 1 Bass. These basses are great and sound awesome. I’ve buffed the gloss finish to remove some of the excess shine, and had binding fitted to the f holes by a luthier. I think it looks better this way. Currently fitted with Thomastik Jazz Flat strings. £425. Collection from Beccles Suffolk much preferred, but I can post.

Up for sale is my Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop Guitar. It’s an awesome archtop guitar which has now been discontinued. Comes fitted with a DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1000 pickup which sounds ace plugged in. Fitted with 11-49 strings and with an action of 2mm at the 12th fret (with scope to go lower on the bridge). In great condition, with the only thing of note a few scratches on the bottom where it rests on the players thigh. Comes with hard case. £425. Possibly interested in swapping for a flat top acoustic. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk much preferred, but I could post if required.

I'm in two minds about this but my wonderful Eastman guitar just isn't getting the use it deserves. Exceptionally well built, and plays great. The Lollar P90s sound amazing and are really responsive. It's the Antique Classic finish which looks lovely. It hasn't been gigged and has been well looked after. Comes with a top quality case too. £1,050. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk much preferred, but I can possibly post if required.

Up for sale is my Kay K162 Pro Bass Reissue. It’s in lovely condition and plays well. Fitted with medium scale Rotosound Trubass Tapewound strings which gives a solid double bass like tone. I’ve also had TI Jazz Flats on it which sounded great. Comes with original hard case and some spare Trubass strings. The only notable thing is the back of the neck has been buffed to remove the sticky gloss, making it much nicer to play. £695 collected from Beccles, Suffolk. I have a box so can post if necessary.- 4 replies
