3. ta Andy - it's a beaut for sure
4. Hi all Here, as described above, is a rare breed of Rickenbacker that in terms of build quality lacks none of the class of its more famous 4000 series. This was bought from Bass Gallery for £750. In stunning midnight blue, it's a great player but the neck is too thin for me. It has MAHOOSIVE tone and thump - honest, it's got some proper welly. It's great played with a pick, but also responds well to fingers. Photos on this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/49793253@N07/...57624544143222/ This is what I know about it, but sure others may be able to say more: Maple body and neck, fully bound neck, padouk fingerboard, two single coil soap bar pups with switchable control and vol/tone for each pick up, double truss rod, pick up height adjuster through the back, premium tuners and internal circuit which provides, along with the superb action and brilliantly intonated bridge, ringing ringing sustain. 1984 - Introduced 1992 - Discontinued The fretboard is a joy to touch, waxed and so smooth (just too narrow for my liking) and the frets are in great condition. There are some obvious dings, but it is an 89 model so has some scars. See this link for more info http://www.rickresource.com/rrp/RIC200series.html May trade for 5ers that I fancy, as any sale from this will go towards a 5 string anyway
5. well i might go for another look at the Lakland tomorrow so will check it over doubly!!
6. yep would be interested to know Gareth
7. Hey guys does anybody have one of these? I understand they're Laklands budget range (kind of??) but what's the gen on these? Pups okay? Output? Do they gig well? The one I tried had a nice action and sweet maple neck. It would seem a good next step in playing a 5er, but not splashing out anything TOO big Thanks for any info
8. used to have one of these - great build quality - BUUMP
9. where are the Yammy experts?
10. can anyone tell me about pickup replacement on these? I seem to think I read somewhere that the Yammy pups/routing doesn't take a straight replacement, say like a Nordy or whatever, is that right or did I imagine it? Ta
11. Right. So no more GAS then?
12.
All depends how much you want to pay 6L6 tubes are anywhere from about £12 each up to £50 each, you need 4. Pre-amp tubes are from about £8 up to £40 each. I just replaced the whole lot with EHX, sounds great. As for servicing, is there a particular problem? Mine was running really bad a couple of years ago, so i replaced all the caps, resistors, diodes etc even ended up making my own component mount boards as the wax boards were in a right state and full of moiusture. I had to then repair the enclosure and re-tolex it. It now sounds and looks awesome, cost me way more than it's worth though, it kind of became an obsession.. as these projects do cheers thebassman
hey bassman any particular place you bought the valves - I've had a look on Hotrox already, but any other recs appreciated -
13. +1 to you solo - hope it sells
14. thanks guys - mine's a 1980 mine - dug it out today after using the LMKii for ages and it's soooo sweet - back to the tubes I reckon, why did we ever part??
15. hi, can anyone verify for me what the pre-amp tubes are in the Bassman 135? there's two together and one stands alone - thanks for any help
16.
Yes - he certainly was. The one with the RW neck & black hand-painted headstock that he was playing in the last days of The Clash. Jackson Browne's bass player had a very nice old PBass - early 60's I think.
the guy in The Cribs also had a vintagey looked s/b PBass - altho no great definition, guitars too loud - or just the mix sounding crap on the tv?
17. is the head still for sale? what cost?
18.
Aha there in lies the issue. That is a MASSIVE treble and upper mid cut right there. Where is the VPF? If that is also pointing at 12 O'clock then you are also giving a HUGE bass boost and a lo mid cut at 400Hz Off for those two controls is fully anticlockwise.
gotcha
19. okay guys that's really helpful - ta
20.
An Auralex Gramma pad might tighten up the bottom end a bit, although in most cases a quick tweak of the eq will sort it out. Where do you have the VLE knob set? I turn it right off because i don't like the effect it has, seems to lose definition in the lows to my ears
ah right - the vle is usually at 12 o'clock, so like flat - but turn it right back you say?
21. Currently using LMii and Berg HS410 through various basses, last night primarily a G&L L2000 - just, well, kind of a great sound but also almost too rooted, almost too bottomy - I guess need to experiment more with the eq on the LM, and the rehearsal room prob doesn't help, what with the frequencies getting trapped and things, but it almost felt too dark a sound, and I like it creamy and deep, but it seemed to lack definition - Really interested to hear any opinions on the LM? Is this a trait? Tried pretty much all settings on the G&L - kind of made me hanker for the M I sold a few months back, the two humbuckers really make it quite a dark monster..Maybe it's the bass?
22.
Never soundcheck and never rehearse. Then take some acid an hour before the gig. Sorted!
