    Elvis fan?  Stewblack, if I'm right you're an Elvis Costello fan.  In this case can you explain his receipt of an OBE?  Not just why he got one but also why he accepted it, as I don't believe his "my mum told me to" story for a nanosecond, mainly because of his unfathomable ego.

    I normally like to be positive but this bothers me somewhat.

      I was a huge Costello fan. Still love his music, but I do feel that he has morphed into something his younger self would have hated. Playing one of those posh picnic type gigs at Hampton Court, sponsored by Waitrose put me right off him. The OBE was only a short hop from there.

      Personally I feel he is half what he used to be without Bruce. It was the marriage of his lyrics and BT's bass which moved me. 

      As to his life choices, I try not to judge. I am not without sin myself

      I saw him live about 2-3 years ago.  Just when I thought the gig was over he dismissed his band and played on solo for ages and it felt like a complete ego trip.  People started to leave.  It put me right off him.  His real contribution to music was 40 years ago - it seems odd to me that he would be honoured now, when you consider all the other bands and individuals that made the late 70's and early 80's such a rich time musically.

      Like me you're probably going to have to get out there and start at or near the bottom, unless you know a network to plug into. I did my main playing years in the north then London so I'm anonymous down here. I just reckon to get out and play... like shaking the tree, see what falls out 👍

      Glad you’re keeping that one mate, you got a killer bass and I got a deposit for my flat! 

      New career is great thanks, 10 years in now and completing a Masters... different world from before eh?
