Gig was good, not a huge crowd but they were up for it.    Sound engineer was good - efficient sound check and great on stage sound.  Backline was fried (an ancient Ashdown Mag and Trace cab that was once a combo and had electrical tape securing the amp/cab connection).   Hence me trundling my own gear in

They still have that cab?! I played my first ever gig when I was 16 in Drummonds and used that! I’m 35 now 😂

like neepheid said, give us a holla and we’ll

    try and talk you through!

We were supposed to have a gig at the Krakatoa, but it fell through. Hopefully, we'll be getting a gig there sometime soon.

What style are you? Happy to give the promoters details if you’d like (and don’t already have!) 😊

  2. We moved to IEMs, but proper cheap and dirty approach.

I run a Kemper into our mixer (which is actually an audio interface), guitarist is using plugins and VSTs. We use a splitter cable for vocals and fire into the interface. Then mix in Ableton (which includes the click track) into a cheap IEM box. Output goes to the iems and guitar and synths come out to separate DIs. I use another output on the Kemper (or QC, or Darkglass - as has evolved in the past while)

Everything IEM (and guitar/laptop) fits in a 2U case. We can be setup in 5 mins. Minus the drummer. He takes a while.

edit: should say - we play originals and don’t need our own PA etc.

Sorry, I can't remember that long ago. The only local shop still surviving sells entry-level gear that is of no interest to me. It's a sad state of affairs, but I think that ship sailed a long time ago

I agree. We have 2 music shops up here and both are very low level on the bass side. Couple low level fenders usually.

  4. My next gig is next Saturday. It’s the only show we have booked this year. Last gig was like October maybe. I’d love to do more gigs, but we’re an originals metal band and only one venue near us puts shows on.

The band won’t likely gig out of our city due to family constants. I could potentially push for an hour away, but that would be it…. But alas, struggling to get promotors to get back to us.

No agent or anything, no one else except me tries to get shows generally.

Money would be great… but £40/£50 is often the max places pay. With 4 of us, and usually a cost to get the venues video footage. We all know that we do this as a break from reality.

  5. So - update.

I’m gonna try and send it back. It sounded awesome on its own, but in a band mix it vanished. The bigger brothers can mix direct signal or a parallel chain… you can’t on the player. Tested on a proper powerhead and the clean bass/low end was back.

Kemper have reportedly said features might be released in future, so this might be one.. absolutely gutted as I loved the wee unit! Hugely surprised that something which could be immensely used by bassists, doesn’t have this feature.

  6. I bought this brand new a few months back. It’s the baby brother of the DC7, and an absolutely awesome power supply. These beasties will power more or less anything if you use the correct cable!

I had in my rack powering my Darkglass ADAM and our IEM unit. I was trying to figure out how to power the Kemper player but decided to use the power head instead so this supply isn’t needed anymore.

I think I still have the box and cables for it 😊

based in Aberdeen, shippings absolutely fine.

Oooh, interesting. I quite like the Payson strings and don't find they die that quickly for me. I wonder if the Newtones might last even longer for me...

Worth a gander! I think it worked out as 2 x 2hr band practices plus 15mins live, and the zing was completely gone. I had hoped to get through a recording session without replacing them (because I was feeling cheap bahahah) but no joy. Dead as the dodo!

  9. Another vote here for Newtone. I was looking for heavy gauge strings for my Dingwalls and was struggling. Ended up going for Payson… found they would die insanely quick. Like 2 band practices (including wiping down) and they’d sound guff.

tried the Newtone ones (Northlane G# set) and I’m insanely happy. I’ve ordered sets so I have them ready when required.

100% would recommend, especially for an extended scale bass.

  10. Howdy!

I’ve started using a Kemper Player and that’s meant this pedal is surplus to my requirements. It’s in great condition and I probs still have the box kicking about.

It’s lived in my rack since I got it (June 2023). It has Velcro on the bottom.

Will include the midi cable for it.

its a brilliant pedal and has some great tones. It’s been updated so you can rock chorus tones too.

based in Aberdeen, happy to ship.

I did the Dingwall thing for a bit but was just massively turned off by how hard the strings where to get and the prices of them so flipped the bass quick smart. This was a good 8-9 years back tho and think there are a lot more options now.

I think with Dingwalls being more common, and other basses including the multiscale component, they are getting easier to find. In my experience, I still need to order from particular places as they’re not yet as common as a standard length. My local place hadn’t even seen a multiscale bass before mine.

My XL scale strings are £55 a set plus the Ibanez individual multi scale bridges are a bastard.

If you’d be open to trying new strings… the Newtone Northlane set ain’t bad. I’m G# on all my Dingwalls and cost is 40 odd. They don’t die nearly as quick as the paysons did.

They do custom ones too if your gauge isn’t as ridiculous as the 37 inch. Or if they’re more ridiculous.

Are you able to confirm if you can connect your phone to it and play songs via bluetooth to play along with? I didn’t want to ask in the guitar forums for fear of looking lonely with no one to play with.

It seems so, I’ve not tested that yet.

  14. My player arrived this week. I’ve used a variety of modellers and so far this one is pretty decent. I never used the profiling on my QC so this is a new thing.

but the sounds are insanely good. Looking forward to using it with my band. Just need to sort outputs. We tend to play a venue who insist on using a mic’d bass cab, so I’d need to kill the cab on that output, but use another output with the cab enabled for my IEMs.

I don’t mind the lack of screen as it will be in my rack controlled by midi.

  15. To go to an extreme…the Darkglass ADAM is pretty funky in the sense that you run two chains in essence. One with a compressed clean sound, the other absolutely mental distortion. With the option of balancing. I mean, I’m selling one soon too hah.

But something with a blend is needed. Someone above mentioned a sansamp or Behringer clone. You’d do good with one of them. You can add a wee bit of grit to your hearts content!
