  1. I love my Berg AE410 but if it didn’t live in my mates garage and get transported to gigs in a van it would be a pain in the backside. It’s not due to the weight, rather that it’s really difficult to squeeze it into the boot of my car. If we didn’t have use of the van I’d be looking for a two (smaller) cab solution.

  2. IME a conflict of dates and priorities will happen sooner or later, either naturally despite everyone’s best efforts or will be manufactured by someone.

Best to talk it through with the drummer first and see if he is prepared to compromise and explore options together to keep everybody happy when diary clashes do occur.

    Good luck! 😎

Not much to be honest. In order to get the same sound I just drop the hi-mids and highs a touch (mids a tad more than highs) so I suppose that means the Player is slightly more aggressive sounding with the same eq. I had planned to change the pups in the Player to the 62s but found I didn’t really need to.

Thanks @Lozz196, I’ve only just bought my first P bass (Player Series) and like how it sounds but this thread got me wondering if it was worth changing the pickup. You’ve just saved me a few quid. 😎

This ^ and not helped by the production on their later albums. Not sure I could decide on a ‘best’ album but my personal favourites are:

    1. Grace Under Pressure

    2. Moving Pictures

    3. Power Windows

  5. I went to buy a sandwich last Thursday lunchtime and ended up unexpectedly buying a Fender Player Precision as well.  It’s the 3rd time I’ve gone out for lunch and  bought a bass without planning to, all from the same shop. Hopefully this one will be a keeper, unlike the other two, but I really need to find a nice sandwich shop further away from PMT Newcastle in future.

Re: the Distance Selling Regulations return - it's a bit of a controversial one. I know that legally they'd have to refund me but I have heard business owners say that they hate being forced to do that and I completely understand. I don't know if I could, in good conscience, cause them to loose money by having to sell it as B-stock purely because I didn't personally take to the sound.

Check out the money back guarantee offered by Thomann who have great customer service and are happy for you to try things out and return with no questions asked.  You would obviously need to be careful to ensure that the item is returned in pristine condition but it's well worth considering IMHO.

Thanks for the input Gaz. Been looking at these today which look pretty good.

That looks decent bang for buck. If it’s placed at the rear of the stage the band will be in silhouette so you will probably also need something to the side and/or slightly in front to illuminate you all. As @taunton-hobbit said, you need to be careful with lasers but class 3R looks like it can be used with minimal risk.

  8. TBH I think you might struggle to light up both the stage and dance floor for that budget.  I would prioritise lighting up the band rather than the dance floor if you need to compromise.

If i was looking to spend that budget I would go for the LEDJ Q Colour to provide a colour wash for the stage.  One on each side of the stage, mounted on stands, would work well and provide ample coverage for a 4m x 3m (and bigger) stage.  That would leave a couple of hundred quid to provide effect lighting that could further add to the stage show and also light up the dance floor.  There are quite a few Chinese made moving head lights on eBay that offer a lot of functionality for the money.  You could probably pick up 5-6 units for the remaining money.

I'm assuming that you are using some type of lighting controller to operate your lights via DMX but all of the above can be used with in-built programs without a controller.

FWIW, my band uses the following setup:  LEDJ Q Colour x 2, LEDJ 7Q5 x 7, ADJ Inno Pocket Spot x 2, Equinox Slender Beam Bar Quad.  Airstream DMX controller (via iPad)

Speaking of co-ordination - its a shame that the inbuilt automatic shows on these moving washes has a flash... it's otherwise quite tasteful.

I run all of my lights via DMX (using an ADJ Airstream Bridge and iPad) as I've found that most inbuilt shows would result in the lights pointing in the wrong direction 50% of the time!

Yes - It's defo a wash - akin to a moving par can.  I think I found some specs somewhere that suggested the output angle was 45 degree... so not something like a beam which would typically lie at something like 6 percent.

The light is very defined though - probably brighter than the tripars I have (that are the closest thing to compare if to LED wise).

Thanks again @EBS_freak.  I've got some moving heads that do beams (2 x ADJ Inno pocket spots and a Equinox slender beam bar quad) so a couple of these will be nice alternative to enable me to vary the effect lighting in our lighting setup. 😎

  11. I've just sold a Musicman Stingray to elteha (Marcin).  Marcin was great to deal with from the outset and even arranged the courier pickup to ship the bass to him in Poland.  Communications have been very good throughout the whole process which has been straightforward and hassle free.  You can deal with Marcin with confidence. 😎

  12. I’m interested in trying different (45-100 gauge) strings on my Stingray’s.

I’ve been using Ernie Ball Slinky’s (Nickel) and D’Addario NYXL’s lately and found I much prefer the tone and tension of the Slinky’s.

Can anyone shed some light on how the DR Sunbeams and Fatbeams compare to the above please?
