Thanks Dan. Prior to seeing your reply I  bought a used G10S primarily for home use. I’ll try it with my active basses when it arrives and report back. If there is an issue I can either use it with the adapter or sell it for what I paid for it. Regards, Gaz

The G10S uses a TRS plug so it can charge in its base. Active basses use a TRS socket to switch on the active circuit when a lead is inserted. The two methods are incompatible and thus to make it work, you need to use a mono 1/4" adaptor or "mono to mono" extension lead. I've not tried it myself, but this is my understanding of electronics.

I’ve just tried the G10S with my active basses (Stingray Special and a Status) and I’m glad to say that it is working as expected without any obvious issue.  I’ve not done a comparison with my Sennheiser wireless so I guess it will just be personal preference that decides which one goes on my pedalboard and which is for home use.

  3. Has anyone tried a Line 6 G10S with active pickups?  Andertons have a note on the product page on their website to say that it isn't compatible however the guitarist is my band is using a G10S with active pickups without any issue.

Would be interested to know if anyone has used this system with a Stingray Special or any other active pickup bass?

Not too much for me, and mostly bought during the first lockdown...

    • Bergantino NXT212
    • Auralex Gramma Pad
    • MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
    • Boss OC-5
    • Minotaur strap
    • Strings

Still tempted to buy stuff all of the time but I'm hoping to hold out until I start gigging again.  Hopefully early next summer. 😎

    Lockdown 3 edit........plus....

    • a Stingray Special 4HH,
    • a Sennheiser XSW-D wireless system (pedalboard version),
    • a Cioks DC7 power supply.
    • a Pedaltrain Classic Jr
    • a MXR Phase 90

I'm glad Boris has signalled a path out of lockdown because this lockdown GAS is getting pretty expensive.😂

  5. I've had one bass failure (Stingray battery during the opening number) and three amp failures (Trace Elliot AH400SMX x 2, SWR Workingman's 180 x 1).  I didn't have a spare amp at the time and luckily the Trace Elliot failures were both during sound checks at local gigs so I was able to borrow an amp.  Since then I've taken a spare amp to all non-local gigs.

The SWR was loaned to a friend at short notice as a backup as he suspected his amp was developing an intermittent fault.  When I asked the next morning how they gig had gone he said "It was great but the amp blew up during the 2nd set".  I asked why didn't you just use mine, to which he replied "I was using it at the time".  Unlucky for both of us. 😂😂

It appears that Andertons, whilst they do for some instruments, don't put up actual pictures for the Stingrays they stock, with the serial number etc.  So its difficult to tell, but if its still listed on their website, I find it highly unlikely the last time they sold one it was built three years ago.

    How about this one https://www.andertons.co.uk/music-man-stingray-charcoal-sparkle-roasted-maple-ebony-black-pickguard

Pretty special looking Stingray in my eyes, available for preorder now but does not appear to be part of the 2021 run as its available sooner, and its £1,999 (not reduced)?

That Andertons link (plus others) is quite misleading as it suggests that you can preorder a Special in a colour that Ernie Ball has discontinued, and it certainly wouldn’t be sold at that price even if you could order one. It would make sense for them to change ‘Pre-order’ to ‘No longer available’ if they have none in stock and delete the price as it’s no longer relevant.

FWIW, when I bought my 4H Special in that colour from Andertons (around September 2018) it was £2,199.

  8. I've fortunately had more good experience than bad.

    Good service:

Bergantino - Jim Bergantino not only designs and sells exceptional gear, he continues to develop his flagship B|Amp and provides new features to all owners free of charge regardless of whether they are the original owner.  I don't know of any other company that does this and on a regular basis.  It's not even advertised as a benefit in the marketing material.  Jim is always helpful and prompt when answering queries via email and is genuinely interested in customer feedback whether via email or on Talkbass.

An honourable mention goes to Dave Wilson (Guitar tech) for all round great customer service (in addition to top quality workmanship and being a really nice bloke!)

    Poor service:

I'm not going to name this UK based retailer but on more than one occasion I've phoned to buy something and have been asked to send them an email to tell them what I want to buy.  Sending an email isn't a big deal but if I can be bothered to phone to give them my business why can't they just sell it to me there and then or make a note of what I want and either fulfil the order or get back to me later?  The same retailer has advertised items in stock that turn out not to be (unfortunately a increasingly wider issue).  None of these are massive issues but just a poor customer experience that makes me more inclined to spend my money elsewhere.

  9. MXR Bass Octave Deluxe pedal for sale:  £85 - including insured shipping within the UK.

    Main features:

    • Two independent analog sub-octave voices with a Dry control and a Mid+ switch to optimize the sound of your parallel clean signal.
    • Dry knob to mix in your direct signal, and hit the Mid+ switch to add up to +14dB of internally adjustable mid frequencies (400Hz or 850Hz).
    • Two separately controlled octave voices—Growl (for throaty tone) and Girth (for deep tone).
    • Can be powered by a 9-volt battery or 9-volt adapter.

The pedal is in good condition.  There are a couple of very minor chips in the paint that you can see on the pictures.  It doesn't have the original rubber feet but has velcro on the bottom (I can removed this if required).  Shipping will be in a non-original box but will be well packed.

    PM me if interested please.

  10. My all time favourite is my Status Series 2 Classic but I've mainly been playing my Stingray Special for the last two years.  It would be a difficult choice if I could only own one.  I would probably keep the Status for playability and sentimental reasons, but the Stingray is great to play and sits in the mix better for what I currently do (when we are able to do gigs).

  11. My first foray into 12’s is the Bergantino NXT212. Really impressed with it so far but unfortunately I’ve not even been able to do a full band rehearsal with it yet.  Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.

So the design concept for the NXT cabs is to move to warmer more musical sounding drivers.

Does it work? What do you think of the NXT212 sound?

I’ve not had an opportunity to gig with it or A/B it with my AE410 but i really like it. It’s a bit warmer than the AE410, probably due to the different speaker size as well as the drivers, but there’s plenty of punch and definition too.  Top quality from Bergantino goes without saying but Jim seems have really hit the sweet spot with the NXT series. Highly recommended.

  13. There's an interesting paper on the Bergantino website about the differences between Neo and Ceramic speakers.  I've got two Berg Neo speaker cabs (AE410 and NXT212).  The NXT212 is a tad heavier than @wateroftyne 's TKS S212 but, having been so impressed with the AE410, it was a no-brainer for me to go for another Berg cab to pair with my B|Amp.  Sound first, then portability are the key factors for me but it's nice that the weight isn't bad either. 😎

  14. There is room in the case body cavity that allows the bass to slide forward by approx 1cm (see pic).  There is plenty of clearance around the headstock so any forward movement of the bass does not cause the headstock to hit any other part of the case.  I've not experienced any issues since I've had my Special.

  15. I’ve had a couple of 3 band Ray’s, plus a Classic and a Special. All are good but (IMO) the Classic and Special are both a step above the standard 3 band Ray in terms of tone (which I found too raspy on the 3 band).

I prefer the Special over the Classic due to the 18v tone circuit, neck profile, body shape and weight. The Classic is a great bass but if I was looking to buy another Ray to go with my Special it would be another Special. YMMV of course. 😎
