  1. I've just reserved a 800w 2x12 cab from Bass Direct to use in my man cave on the basis that it will sound nicer than the 20 year old Peavey practice amp i've been using.  Definitely more of a GAS induced 'want' than a 'need' (I was interested in it anyway) but I'm justifying putting it on the credit card to cheer myself up while we're on lockdown with no prospect of gigs for some time.  It's not in stock yet but hopefully I'll get it in a couple of weeks.🤔

  2. Bergantino B|Amp:  700w @4 Ohms, Programmable EQ points and Q width, Speaker profiles, in-built parallel compression, Overdrive, Distortion, Fuzz, HPF, LPF, tuner and all can be saved into three pre-sets than can be selected via the amp or an optional Bluetooth footswitch.

    Honourable 2nd place:  Aguilar AG700

I've also owned class D amps by Markbass and TC Electronic.

  3. In reply to the OP, I haven’t.  I’ve always bought the best gear I could afford and gigged it as long as I was still enjoying playing it. The only time I’ve felt guilty is following an impulse buy on something I don’t need and/or will hardly use. I’ve become more ruthless about moving that gear on but it’s never been about the cost.

I just want to use the gear I enjoy the most while I’m still gigging, and don’t want to have any regrets about ‘making do’ and playing stuff that doesn’t give me as much enjoyment.

  4. My pub rock band uses RCF 705 subs (x2) plus RCF 712 tops (x2) for pubs and occasional bigger gigs. Been very impressed with RCF quality and value for money so far but haven’t used any other active PA cabs since we switched from a power amp/passive EV speaker set up.

With the RCF gear we fully mic the drum kit, guitar plus 3 x vocals and put these through the PA.  My bass is backline only but I’ll go though the PA in case of any amp failures/emergencies.

I haven't got a later LM3, but based on the difference in volume between my Italian 500w rated LM3 and the 800w Mesa D800 (spoiler, the Markbass is MUCH louder and generally has more umph), I'm guessing that there would be. Bear in mind that I actually liked the basic tone of the D800, it just wasn't loud enough and didn't cut through.

Re: MarkBass - I used to own both a 500w (Class A/B) Momark and 800w (Class D) Momark.  Both very good amps but when I compared them at a soundcheck with exactly the same settings and felt that the Class A/B had more weight to the notes.

I've since owned an Aguilar AG700 and Berg B-Amp.  Both are Class D and there's no lack of weight to the notes (or heft) with either and both of these are a step above the Class A/B Momark, and also a Trace 400SMX that I owned (IMHO etc).

  6. I've not had any experience of using 1 x 12 cabs (I'm using a Berg AE410) but understand (like @chris_b) that the Berg AE, CN and HDN series are all slight improvements on each other in that order.

Bergantino have just launched a new 'NXT' series of lightweight cabs including two different 1 x 12 cabs that look very good. These are due to start shipping from next week so there may be a few more of the older lightweight series up for sale soon.  I believe there are a couple of Berg CN 1 x 12 cabs up for sale on here at the moment at a very good price.

    PRICE DROP TO 1050 QUID

The news is that I have a window to buy back an old stingray of mine - if that window closes I'll withdraw this beauty from sale. It's flipping fantastic...

This is a vgc Japan made 1987 BB3000A with OHSC (case a bit tatty but good working order).

Here's a selection of (late 70s/80s) noodling played on this authentically eighties bass. Do check it out with nice headphones if you can...

Yes, the humans are a perplexing and often puzzling species....

Should I find a reasonably priced amplifier to compliment the AE410 then I will likely hold onto this little (big) gem!

Any suggestions on an amplifier?.. I was running a D800 at one point which sounded “Magnifico!!"

I've not tried a D800 but I've been using my AE410 with the Aguilar AG700 which I really like, and before that a Markbass MoMark.  Both sounded great.  I'm awaiting a Bergantino B-amp which should (in theory) be a perfect match due to the cab profiles in the amp.

  12. I have two of these lights and can confirm they are very good for the money.  Unfortunately they seem to be causing mains hum through our guitarist's gear so we've stopped using them.  They don't cause any issues with my gear so I suspect it may be linked to his particular amp setup and high gain settings.  We haven't had an issue with other makes of LED lighting.  Has anyone one else had a similar issue?

Are you sure the 500 watts power amp is Class D?

I think it should read Class AB or analog: http://www.markbass.it/product-detail/amp-frame-500/

Thanks @gillento for spotting my schoolboy error.  I've corrected it now. 😊  I used to also own the 800w version which is Class D and listed this amp as the same when I placed the ad last night. 😎
