  1. Thanks for this NBD, I am still trying to decide what should be my 2nd bass... this one, or the Chowny Retrovibe Evo (once they start manufacturing it in Bristol as they're coming out with a short and a medium scale). They're both so beautiful, I'm a sucker for blue & green basses.
  2. I think you misunderstood me, I never said volume/action is higher at one place than another. What I meant is, when I tap e.g. the high G at fret 12, the sound that the left side of the string makes (between nut and 12) is actually louder than the one that should be ringing (between fret and bridge). I guess it's physics and the longer part of the string rings better which seems reasonable, I just don't remember this extreme difference from a long scale. And I don't have one now for comparison. Compression does not seem to mask these "overtones" from the left side of the string, and where I have my action does not seem to have an impact either on this volume issue. But anyway, I do have a compressor set up, and my action is so incredibly low you would not believe it
  3. Hey Shorties, I don't know if this is specific to my Ibanez Talman, or short scales in general, but I find tapping really hard in the higher register, as the longer part of the string towards the head is much, MUCH louder there. I know, I know, I should improve my muting, that's true, and I am indeed a noob. But actually I don't do "real" tapping just the odd note as an "effect" here and there, and I absolutely don't remember this being so hard on a long scale. What do you think?
  4. The Bronco is pretty nice, I'm a sucker for the maple neck! Have you guys seen the Squier Jaguar in the "for sale" topic? It's so beautiful and cheap! Someone already swooped in, no surprise
  5. Good Lord, in the age of next day delivery, this makes me feel like being in a weird Twilight Zone episode or something!
  6. Consider walking away. I was in one of these "but but but we HAVE to be loud" bands back in 2005. My right ear never stopped ringing since, yes you are reading that right, it's been 16 years. Does NOT worth it, believe me.
  7. It IS gorgeous (I have posted mine here a couple pages ago but please allow me to do it again as I'm really loving it ), but it's a £150 bass and it sort of feels like it. I am still writing up my personal review about it after using it for ~4 months now. No, I don't have THAT much to say, I'm just a lazy bum (it's body looks a bit fat on this photo due to the perspective)
  8. @Chownybass or any Retrovibe Evo owners - how contoured is the body? I am asking because on some photos, it looks a bit towards the slab side but not on others, and I really need my edges to be round.
  9. Have you checked out the Sterling by Musicman shortie? It's edges seem as smooth and round as they get, reviewers love it, it's usually around £600. I am eyeballing one for a while now, primarily would love to go with a Chowny Retrovibe Evo (as they will become medium & short scale once made in the UK soon) but the body seems a bit more towards the slab side on pictures which is discouraging me, so this Sterling is my next choice. I am all in for contoureds.
  10. Look up tendon / forearm stretching excercises. It makes a huge difference for me to properly stretch for 1-2 minutes before and after every practice session. I used to have serious recurring pain in my wrists every now and then, but no more.
  11. Do you have any recordings of the above setup with no effects? Sounds very interesting. I'm a sucker for tiny basses but .080 with standard G, how is the sound compared to a piccolo (one octave higher tuning) sound?
  12. Typical, only found this topic and the site-wide code after posting my very first Donner order. But in the end £56 is still a pretty good deal for a loop pedal, so no complaints
  13. For me, on certain frets (like 5th on D) I get short, audible overtones even if I fully, quickly, forcefully mute with my right hand, be it palm or picking finger. I was told flats or at least balancer rounds should solve this... will try at some point. Not into flats, I have a set of tapes I will need to try this with...
  14. It's been quiet here. How are things with the UK manufacturing @Chownybass? Hope I can get myself a short (or maybe medium) Retrovibe EVO next year
  15. Is Adam Clayton sponsored by GHS? Because he sure sounds like BOOMERS! DAYYYYYUMMMMM high IQ bass burn 🔥🔥🔥
  16. Well I have good news for you, now you can get them for only £11.99, it MUST be the real deal! (reported this one) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403263812809 One thing is sure, once my fake ones went dead, I'll go the Stringsdirect way. They sound pretty good for now.
  17. I don't want to expose him as he provided a refund after seeing my photos and will take it to his supplier who recently changed. I did not see him sell any more Elixir strings now.
  18. I realised I have one of those crappy "microscopes" you can attach to your phone... still no coating.
  19. The core seems fully visible to me, not a sign of coating:
  20. Thanks, it does not like this, I don't see a thing at all I'll do a macro shot once I get home to make sure but I'm thinking it's more and more possible I bought some fake ones without the proper nanocoat...
  21. My accuracy, tempo and dynamics are all a lot more consistent when playing with a pick, as that's how I originally learned to play, donkey's years ago. Yet today 90% of the time I play fingerstyle and loving it... Just feels like I'll never get muting and raking right, even though muting comes so naturally with the pick I don't even pay attention to it.
  22. Funny how different we all are, I love the feel of flats, but just hate the sound of them. These days I just keep switching between rounds and tapes and I just keep going back and forth. There is something I like about both, so can't just stick to one I really need a 2nd bass I guess. @BassAdder27 there are a lot of great string comparison videos on youtube, listen to a lot of them as there's a huge difference between the various tension/brand flats too, and maybe you'll hear something you really want to try.
  23. Ok, they're on, and they sound amazing, so that's a good start. Although visibly I still can't identify anything that would suggest this has a nanoweb coating, not even around the windings, so I guess only time will tell if the sound becomes dead or not.
  24. I just forgot to ask one important thing @Chownybass ... WHEN CAN WE GET IT? 😁
