1. Had this a while, never used it! Plenty spacious and takes two standard electric basses. Photo to follow. Some cosmetic marks, no damage to actual case itself. As with pretty much all these things the little rubber thingy that you use to pull the zipper has snapped on one of the zips (who IS the patron saint of broken zips?) NO idea what these go for now, there's a Mono case for £200 so i'm asking for £50 + postage and offers welcome.
2. i got the 840 from this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-Roadster-Not-Roadstar-RS840-Bass-Classic-and-Rare-/280809729853?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4161906f3d#ht_1416wt_1187 maybe it's a mistake. I have a blazer that i made from bits. Unfortunately couldn't find any heart shaped tuners at the time, but I use it for the main project and it honks like Humph
3.
Richard played drums in Caravan.....?????
He did??? Damn you cheeky Ramsgate Music Vendor! You've sold me a bass played by a drummer. No wonder the neck is so splintery and covered in dribble... No, you're right, i meant the other Richard whose name escapes me - his cousin was in the same band... no, it's not gonna come to me. O'Brien? The Lionheart?
I think its partly because most people who want a fender do so because there favourite player from some classic 60s or 70s band used a fender and it was a four string not a five string. I think when most people think 5 string they think "modern".
I agree. My Fender has 5 pegs on the top. Had to replace one once, them Fender pegs is expensive! And the only thing holding them in place was the tightness of the screw and two little plastic prongs! Had to put a cheapo one on, better than the original.
4.
Almost all Ibanez Basses of that period, are great basses. Which one are you after?? Cheers.
Sorry, misunderstanding. I'm not necessarily after one, although if I saw one I might be tempted. I was just wondering what the difference is between the 924 and 840. There's an 840 on ebay which looks very like a 924 on basschat. So it was idle curiosity. Perhaps they are made of different woods?
5. I have seen a few Ibanez Roadsters about recently and I'm confused as to their model numbers. I've seen some RS840s that look the same as RS924s and the internet is so full of information that I can't find out if this is due to mis-listing or what the difference is. There is a poster out there with all the models on it, but I can only find a really small version which I can't read! Any help?
6. I have one. It is blue and was apparently played by the guy who was in Caravan Richard Coughlan (he of the mighty tash!) It's nice, don't know why people are so down on Fender 5's.
7. Just completed a trade with Martin. Very easy transaction and a nice chap - drove a long way to do business and was on time and a great communicator throughout. No hassles!
8. what's the crazy tattooed bass at the back on the left? I want to see a picture of it!
9. Postage free or local pickup in Bristol
10. I bought this lovely bass Christmas '10. It was snowing, i nearly drove into a tree. Tried many of the collection at Bass Direct, took full advantage of Mark's patience and the lack of customers willing to brave the storm and came away with the Clover Argo. It's a great instrument and I thoroughly enjoy its sound, feel and look. Now I'm selling it. If you're interested in the sob story that explains why it's at the bottom. I am disappointed to see it go and I haven't had nearly enough opportunity to play it. I hope that below I have linked to a photobucket album with some pictures and a video of a German man talking about one, and then playing it...eventually. A scour of the current asking price along with the instrument's very good condition and not very many playing hours means i'm asking for £1000 for this specimen. I've not sold on BC before so please forgive me if I am a bit slow in responding to any questions! http://s1103.photobu...ver%20Argo%205/ Unfortunately I was involved in an accident at work which wasn't my fault (yes, I'm that guy) and now my wrist is ever so slightly jiggered. Makes playing a 5 just a tad harder, especially for those bottom C's. Physio and exercises will help in the long run but for the time being there's no point me hanging on to something I can't enjoy. Plus, while it's here I'll be tempted to play it, and that would anger my physio! Seems to have been a spate of injuries reported on BC recently - we have to remember that music is a pretty intense physical experience which can hang us out to dry if we're not cautious. Let's be careful out there!
11. RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover, RAC comprehensive cover. Actually, probably cover with 2 breakdown services as they will usually only come out once in one "Trip". Bastards I am amazed at the level of French hospitality - standard day you can quite reasonably expect a quality 3 course meal with very drinkable red wine - even at festivals! Gonna be really disappointed to come back to the british soggy white sandwich and nuclear pasta bake.
12. Here's what it says: theft from any unattended premises unless all doors and windows have been securely locked and the theft involves entry to, or exit from the premises by forcible and violent means. This does not apply to your insured equipment or your musical accessories which have been left at any school, classroom or storeroom under the direction of an educational authority or rehearsal room, concert hall, examination room or music venue under the direction of the music organiser, conductor or examiner for less than 24-hours. The UYFN (under your effing nose) element in insurance is such a grey area most insurers will try to get out of it. In my experience if you walk into a venue, pick up your amp, walk out, walk back and your guitar is gone the insurer will class the venue as unattended for the period you were outside (same as if you went inside leaving your boot wide open!) HOWEVER! Does this fall under the "music venue under the direction of the music organiser" bit? Perhaps. Definitely worth a call if you often load out when there's still a room full of strangers in attendance. I just crunched some numbers and saw that Newmoon offer £144 versus Allianz £166 AND I wouldn't have to have MU membership to qualify as I do with Allianz - so that's another £150 saved and I don't have to have my messages go unanswered for days by the lazy, useless MU! Happy days
13.
Sensible ones for the poster doing European touring - be aware of the road rules in different countries as much of mainland Europe requires you to carry warning triangles, hi-vis jackets etc in your vehicle. Oh, and the whole wrong side of the road thing too. Don't forget that.
Top tip! My mate told me when touring in France there's only one thing you need - French. If you speak it, they'll help you. If they think you're just another elderberry stinkpoo rosbif you'll be in trouble. Possibly a bit harsh on the French... I know two French sentences: 1) A well known line from Lady Marmalade . 2) She may have been the vicar's daughter, but she had a lovely set of teeth. Any other vital sentences one should take over there? Oh, and 3) How much do these pears cost? Thanks Madame Mabbs!
14. MASSIVE BUMP! Like this list: Spare bass, several changes of strings. Stage Clothes. Socks & Underwear, plenty of; Earplugs: not just for the gigs. Books. Nurofen, Imodium, Durex, Germoline. Protein bars, muesli bars, nuts (meal replacements). Flip-flops or similar - if you'll be using showers in odd places e.g. Yoof Hostels. In addition i've found an amazing bit of kit called an Aeropress which makes the best espresso i've had out of home kit. It looks like a male-member enlarger. Crucial for those venues where all you get is a kettle and crusty cups. Any more thoughts on this list? I'm van-bound for a month round Europe. Any little ohmygodicouldntlivewithoutmyX gems?
15. Ones to watch for are the exclusions (what they won't cover), geographical limits (REMEMBER that countries like Norway, Iceland and Croatia are NOT in the EU), theft from vehicle specifics and what the claims procedure is. £76 on the "natural" or the "harmonic" quote? Allianz have always been good for me - plus you get £2000 free sums insured with MU membership. Will be looking into this New Moon one though, could save a few quid!
16. Hi I've been teaching bass for years but never more than one to one. I've got the opportunity to participate in some workshops and teaching at a local college teaching groups of 2-5 bassists. They are all beginner to intermediate level. I can drill them on scales, arpeggios etc but i'm looking for some fun ideas for things to do - it's not exactly the most chord friendly instrument so more than 2 of them playing at a time is going to be horrible! Anyone lead or participated in these things before? Ideas gratefully received!

18. +1 on the genzbenz comment. They are great. Best all round DB experience I ever had was through an old SWR Workman combo. It even had wheels and an extendable handle and sounded awesome. But they are discontinued and very rarely crop up. So useless advice really!
19. sorry, i've already had some i see - Bergantino, Aguillar, Berg, any others? We have no shops in Bristol so I can't actually try any of them out!
20.
and reflects middle-aged conservatism on my part.
Maybe that's it, it's just premature grumpy-old-bass-player syndrome! I need to get back in touch with my youth - I've mastered this interwebbing thing after all! I hope Markbass continue to flourish, they do make a nice noise after all! So the reason I started this thread is because I'm looking for an 8ohm cab to go under a cmd121p and got flummoxed by the MB range. Anyone recommend a cab? either 115 or 112 and portable...
21.
Oh, and rapid developement my backside
mine too man, mine too
22.
What's the price differences in all of these?
£554 for the traveller - £589 for the Club - £616 for the NY - £687 for the standard according to GAK
23. Good, glad everyone isn't irritated by it! Maybe it's the contrary Mary in me, but rapid range expansion and tailoring identical cabs to different boot dimensions smacks of an inability to commit to a design philosophy. If it's portable, make it small and light. If it isn't, make it huge and out of mammoth tusk, don't hedge your bets and cover everything. I want them to say "This! THIS is the cab for you! It's so good we've locked the designer inside his own ass so that if he tells anyone else how to make it they won't believe him! You cannot get a better cab. Fact " ... "what's that? A quadrilatrophobe? Oh, well how about this triangular version? No really, it's just as good, ignore my previous conviction." Having said that my nord player just bought the cmd121p, so perhaps we could get matching NY extensions..........hmmm
24. Anyone else feel like little fashionistas following all the latest Markbass trends? Don't get me wrong, I have a Markbass combo and it's very good - i'm not knocking the product. But they have, at last count, 4 different 1x15 speakers on the market. Having copied the specs into a spreadsheet (snort, geek, snort) on my i-padmacphone I notice that the only real difference between 2 of them is that they stack neatly under different things! I don't know about you, but I never bought a cab on the strength of its stackability. In fact, the more uniform my gear the more of a douche I tend to feel. I know it's good stuff, but does anyone seriously believe that one company can be all things to all people? And now the Momark, another step towards blanket branding yourself with a big yellow stamp where your soul should be. They're creating a monster - all of a sudden it doesn't seem so f***ing lightweight Off to buy my Ikea Ploerp dining set now which I'll drive home in my Saab and set up next to my EBS...
