Just to add my ten pence worth, I was using a cheapo speaker lead from my Ashdown Mag head to my Hartke " x 15" cab, and didn't realise until I bought a VERY nice cable from a Basschat guy called OBBM how much difference a quality link made. Don't think twice, if you've got a non-descript floppy old lead, get a proper one today. £13.50 for a very impressive looking 1 metre cable with quality connectors and an even more impressive leap in clarity is money well spent. Honestly, you won't look back.
+1
Received my cables from OBBM and you can really see and hear the difference, well worth the purchase. -
It's back and now £100 more expensive.
I think bass collection stuff often had a L & R tuning peg on each side of the headstock as it allowed for a straight pull over the nut.
I may be corrected though.
My fretted 310 is strung the same way -
Cmon what does it sound like
I get to find at 8o'clock tonight
Damn work. -
Until OBBM's cable arrives I nipped into town and bought this, figure its worth the £5 it cost me if it means I can get the Ashdown LB30 fired up tonight! However I will be swapping in OBBM's as soon as I get them.

What can I say, I am knew at this, but I thought the penultimate paragraph refered to instrument cable use:
A 400-watt bass
head driving a 4-ohm box will put ten amps
through the cable; if it was forty feet long, you
might lose a portion of your power as heat in
the cable, but at three feet long that effect is
negligible.
-
I did have to edit your link to get it to work!
Thanks, now amended. -
Wanted to start a new thread on the merits of Speaker Cables Vs Instrument Cables for connection Heads to Cabs.
In deciding whether it was worth the risk of using a Instrument Cable I found this thread, the majority of people suggest that you shouldnt do it because it will blow all your gear up, but the last post says that you can use an instrument cable and it will be fine. What do people here think?
BTW I have made a speaker cable purchase from OBBM, gone with the majority and not risked the instrument cable. -

Virgins Blood Mains cable for the ashdown
Only £2200
WTF! -
If you can wait for mail order go to Bassic Bits
If you are wanting to try it out as I would as soon as possible, go down to your local store and just buy a lead thats just long enough but not too long, with reasonable quality plugs on the end.
PersonallyI am not a beleiver of the solid silver made with virgins blood cables, particulalrly on a speaker. You just need a decent quality plug on each end, and a reasonable size conductor in the cable.
Thanks for your help, went to the Bassic Bits ebay store and bought a cable from there.
Will also have a look round the local shops, see if there is anything available to tide me over til OBBM's gets here.
Still looking for the virgins blood cables -
What can I say, received the head and cab tonight, both look great, but then the realisation hits me that having used combo's exclusively, I dont own speaker cable to connect head to cab.
I dont want to risk using ordinary 1/4 jack instrument cable, is there a brand of speaker cable that you would recommend?
What a fool! -
Another bass that I dont use or need, the Geddy and Ray34 are flavour of the month, so this might as well go. Plus it will help cover the outlay on the Ashdown LB Head and cab
That's good, The new ones being shipped out now have gone up about £150.
For those interested, goto www.soundsliveshop.com.
They have the head for £320 and the LB112 for £269.
I also found a 10% off voucher code for all Ashdown products, bring the price down to £530.
Cheers -
Managed to acquire the standard edition head and the LB112 cabinet for £530, seemingly still deals to be had.
WOW ......I,ve just sold my UK built one for £300.
I know, that will teach me for talking too much and not just saying "Ill take it straight" away! -
Looks like the price of these has just gone through the roof, UK made version now £700, bog standard now £500.
-
DON'T MAKE ME EBAY IT
-
Hijack on the way.
This amp allows for the connection of footswitches to control the onboard effects, can anybody recommend a suitable model? -
Checked this out with Mark at Ashdown, he has confirmed that the LE is British built and the standard edition is built in China.
Mark said:
"The British one is the LE... with a majority of UK parts, Chassis, Transformers, PCBS, box, etc and built here , tested here, packed and shipped.
The others are CHINESE built. " -
