I don't think the demos are pointless at all

Perhaps 'pointless' was a bit harsh. It's certainly good to hear the basses. I just wish we could hear a bit more, maybe from other players in some different style. The old 'tone is in the fingers' wheeze is certainly true of Marcus!

Cosmo , you are correct-but if you look up "Grenadillabama" there is one photo up there (on my 'puter at least). I am wanting to put something instead of a "G". That is getting old...

I see! Post some pics on here, we'd love to see them! and as I'm sure you are aware...

I've considered buying an Embassy for myself. I already have the Vintage Pro Thunderbird, and it is excellent. It's a bit petty but I'm not sure about the redesigned Embassy headstock, it looks a bit ordinary in comparision with the original.

Absolutely, well put. This is why I build/use Fender-fit bitsas; I can simply source the bits that work best together at the same quality point but at a fraction of the price and risk of a CS instrument. The bass below cost less than £300 to build, but it sings, is extraordinarily versatile (helped by a Kiogon series/parallel circuit), and is a joy to play. It also allows me the non-Fender option of a Precision width neck on a Jazz Bass. Is it as good as a CS fretless jazz? I owned the(now ludicrously expensive) CS Jaco Relic, and this knocks the socks off it :)

    Lovely.

  4. I saw a Genesis tribute band a couple of times a few years ago, but I can't remember which one! They were very good though. The singer looked a bit like Keith Moon/Anthony Newley and the keyboard player was the spit of Peter Griffin.

  5. I'm a bit of a Spector obsessive, as @Bassulike66 and @cetera know!  I don't have any at the moment but have owned 16 over the years. Like Rickenbackers, they are an itch I sometimes just have to scratch, so I'm sure I'll own another one soon!

My favourites have been the NS2000 model. I actually prefer them over the Euro. Seller's remorse, right there.

  6. I'll admit, I did think the Coda was an April Fool's gag when it was first announced, mainly due to the apparently awful photoshop on the headstock - turns out that is actually the design! It has grown on me over the years though. Spectors can be trusted.

    Lazy response from RIC.

It is. They seem to take massive umbrage at anybody daring to alter their instruments in any way, even removing the pickup cover. It's almost as if they deliberately fit the pickup askew to punish those that do :P

I took the pickup cover off to fit the bezel and noticed that the pickup has been fitted to the base at an angle so sits completely squint.

This seems to be normal for Ricks I'm afraid. All of mine have had crooked pickups to varying degrees.

Rickenbacker's standard response is that the pickup is supposed to be hidden under the cover, so it doesn't matter.

Is Kansas' Carry on Wayward Son done on a precision?  I think so, but a lot of people seem to think it's a Ric.

And here's a youtube Isolated Bass:

It's a Precision. I suspect flats. All the early Kansas albums are. I don't think Dave Hope ever played a Rick, but he did switch to Steinbergers later on.

Ey up - did Geddy have a Precision phase as well? I always had him down as a Jazz man (when he wasn't dabbling with Ricks and Wals, at least)

First album was all Precision! Geddy bought his first Rickenbacker with the record company advance straight after.

  11. CIJ Fender '51 Precision Bass, excellent condition. Some minor dings to the upper rear body edge (see pics). Some light scratches on the scratchplate.

There is a small area of wear to the varnish on the lower side of the neck by the 6th fret. It's not noticeable when playing, there's no depression or dent to the wood (it looks worse than it is). Apart from this wear the neck is extremely clean.

edit: Having checked this again for a possible buyer, I suspect this discolouration might be the pattern of the wood itself rather than wear.

The bridge cover has been refitted since I took the photos.

According to the traditional 'with and without' scales method, it weighs 9.5 approx. It's certainly no boat anchor .

I'm trying to source a case so postage could be considered. Viewings welcome in Dartford or can meet somewhere. Trades considered.
