1. It says that they're Alder which really does shock me, I was expecting some variety of chipboard. See here for full specs:

  2. Looks like they share some features Staggs do - possibly from same factory ?

I'd say as a cheap backup bass you can't go wrong. As a main instrument ? No thanks.

EDIT: I'd fancy this though.. kind of a Jaguar meets Stingray.

  3. I find i'm making a few less than I used to - more to do with familiarity with the songs than anything else. When we get some new ones I expect i'll make a few fluff ups again.

    No-one's perfect..

I know you said it's a S1 - but i'm sure the US Standard would be same pickguard.

  5.
Mine's a 2 EQ version of the one above. I use that and a jazz live, and at Saturdays gig, the ray sounded so awesome, the jazz didn't get a look in all night. Power, punch and clarity all rolled in to one sexy body................ and the bass is nice too.

I'd always wanted one, now I've got one, and it's my number one, I love it.
Same here - my Jazz is purely a backup bass, will never take the number one spot.

  6. I don't bother with Birmingham SC anymore - not an inspiring bass stock in the slightest. Also the dark cellar so you can't inspect an instrument properly, and terrible acoustics just make me not waste my time.

The Salford SC was great for instruments (Warwick, Spector), but you had more chance of knitting fog than finding someone to help you. I did however buy my Spector Q6 Pro for £330 from there, sold it for £300 a year later so I got a good deal.

I only really go to PMT - super range of gear and genuinely friendly staff. Plus loads of Sandbergs to GAS over..
