  1. Nice wood choices for the neck. Just hope that big change of wenge in the middle doesn't make it too heavy.
  2. That string tree looks close to the tuner. Doesn't look like you can slide closer to the nut, without changing the shape of the lower headstock.
  3. I did wonder if they are wrong way round. Usually logos are on bottom of pickup. It sounds great so not sure it matters apart from visually!
  4. Mayones craftsmanship is the best out there. Seriously. My Jabba is flawless, super nice to play, but sounded horrible. I don’t know if it was the Delano’s or Mayos own 3 band preamp. The blend was more like a 3 way switch (like most preamps) and the passive tone did nothing until the last 2mm of knob travel. And then it sounded weirdly honky. The chosen bass mid and treble frequencies were terrible. The bass just wasn’t getting played. So the pickups and preamp were removed and I installed Bartolini B-Axis pickups and East Uni Pre. The difference is staggering. It sounds great with any setting. And this is the first preamp where the blend does just that. Those Barts are seriously nice!
  5. Pickguard made, and I couldn’t resist mocking it up! Liking it so far.
  6. You won't be disappointed with twin EMG MM. ! I put two on a Jazz build, I think the TW version. Vol/Vol/Tone, but each volume was a pull switch to single coil. Very versatile. Keep the pics coming!
  7. oh Gotcha. They have a fraction of what's on their site. But they did have a 5HH, 4H, BFR Fretless. Apparently the wait time for an Ernie Ball order is horrendous, due to the appocolypse.
  8. I tried it in the store, if that's what you are asking.
  9. I am curious to know if anyone owns a multi-scale bass (fanned fret) and also regular parallel fretted basses. Do you have an issue switching between the two? I have messed around in music shops on multi scale Dingwalls and they are very easy to adjust to. Just wondering if hard adjusting back the other way.
  10. I was set on buying a new Classic 5HH and went to try on last Saturday. I didn't get as far as plugging in because the G string kept rolling off the edge of the frets. Looking at the D string it wasn't exactly central to the fretboard dots. The usual fix is to slacken neck bolts and move it, then re-tighten. But there was zero play. So can't comment on weak G string! But can comment on a crap G string! There lots online from other Forums about this. People are saying its 'your technique' . That's rubbish. Just a poorly designed neck, poorly assembled. Shame though. I was set to buy it until I saw it!
  11. The styling is weird. Looks like a shoe box covered in Fablon
  12. Unfortunately not! I think the Lindys only come with exposed poles. See pic above. That’s what my buddy wants.
  13. I finally made a start on the Élite. The body is two piece lightweight ash and neck is 4A quartersawn maple with Birdseye top. preamp choice is now Noll 4 band, three stacked knobs.
  14. Best colour combo in my opinion. Are blocks actual inlays or painted on?
  15. Sounds like you need to get at least two basses made! Keep us posted on your final choice.
  16. Have you considered Lollar Jazz pickups? I recently installed a set in my build and I am blown away by them. Higher output than my other basses including Vigier, Mayones. My bridge is 17.5mm Hipshot, but 18mm - 19mm would be fine too. Worth checking out if you don't mind buying from the US. I have it paired to a 3-Leaf preamp.
  17. The headphone amp is professionally made for me. It should fit in most basses as the PCB is only about 40mm long. It will depend on what's in the cavity right now and how much space you have. It has a custom made jack that will turn on the bass preamp too. It doesn't affect the regular jack.
  18. If she played her cards right, she could have me.
  19. Hey Jabba, even more of a faff, on your next build you should try binding the fingerboard with pieces cut from the fingerboard. Cut fret slots after you cut these pieces off. Then glue them back on. The result doesn't look bound, but you don't see fret tangs.
  20. To my ears the difference in sound is so subtle it would be lost in a band mix.
