1. Lovely bass, really. I'm surprised you still haven't found a deal for it.
2. Hello! Since I'm in the market for an amp I thought I could try posting out of my affiliates forum to give BCers a chance for a nice swap... I'm looking for a good combo, a good cab, a tube preamp... drop me a line and let me know what you have. What I'd like to give away in trade is an ex-demo bass built by me some months ago... I prefer 30" scale, fretless and 4 strings so it doesn't fit my style. The body shape is the "Swan" - 35" scale, 21 frets 5 strings. Completely made of Padouk with Bois de Rose fingerboard and Barts CB pickup. A very nice bass with a warm and punchy sound. Very good LowB. The new price for a 5er is €850 but since this one is an ex-demo it's worth less. I can ship the bass as is or defret it if the new owner wants me to do it... I bet it would be a good fretless too. I'm interested in pretty much everything "amp-wise" ... some examples: Ashdown or Hartke cabs/heads/combos, studio mic preamps (Avalon U5, Focusrite etc.), Behringer EP1500 or 2500+something else... straight trades preferred. 3. Right. I guess I'll have to spend about €500 for a good used preamp.
4. Ouch! Any ideas for another preamp?
5. Hello! I actually use an ART Tube MP, a PA power amp and a 3 ways speaker. I'd like to replace the preamp with something better. I used to own a Demeter preamp and I remember it being punchier and warmer (of course - it costs 7 times what I paid for the ART). I see there are lots of tube preamps. I'd like to get a studio quality tube preamp for mic... no eq. needed as I have a parametric equalizer but I hardly use it. I've seen the Electro Harmonix Mic Pre... with its small size and the two 12AX7 tubes it could be what I'm looking for. Besides it's priced pretty fairly (about €170 new). The features I need? Real tube circuit, enough power to drive a power amp, DI and 1/4 outputs. Any advice is appreciated
6. Hei... I've got this cab from a customer as a part exchange for a bass... but I don't need it in this moment. The cab is in good conditions, unlike the other versions the 3x10" has chrome metal angles... I thought it was a modification but they're original. 6Ohm/600w, rear placed reflex. Pretty light and easy to carry around. I'll try to take pics asap. Price could be slightly negotiable but unfortunately shipping is steep (about £50) and I'm going to include it into the sale price. PayPal or bank transfers are ok. I have feedbacks if you want to check.
7. Is it XT version? I'd take it.
8. Maybe the fingerboard or the frets aren't perfect... but explaining you how to check this wouldn't be easy, I fear.
9. The buyer is in the Uk, I guess. I use a low action myself so my instruments are made with this in mind The concept of "low", "very low" etc. is subjective but yes, it can be set pretty low. BASS IS SOLD.
10. It looks like the 6er is gone, pending payment...
11. Kiwi... I'll have to blame you as now my desire to experiment with neck-thru construction is back! We'll see once I've finish my actual works.
12. The 6er and this fiver are the only "stock bass" at the moment. I also had an 8 strings fretless but it's gone to Hong Kong weeks ago and my last 4 strings went to Netherlands. I'll try to find the short video clip I made with the 5er. It's a pretty nice bass but Padouk body isn't for very "boomy" tones... it always delivers a pretty dry voice. The 6er is the ultimate Fusion or Jazz bass IMHO. I was thinking about an affiliates forum but all of this started with a trade feeler, so I'm not really trying to wake up anybody's G.A.S. Tomorrow I should also start building necks for a couple of new stock basses: a 32" scale with Afzelia body, Afzelia/Wengé neck and Wengé board and a 30" scale Ash bodied bass with Padouk/Wengé neck and (probably) Cocobolo fingerboard. In a week or so I should also have a new prototype called "Stratos", made with Olivewood body and Wengé/Cherry neck and Ebony board. It has the carved upper horn and is my smallest body style (30cm wide in the larger part). If you are interested in trying one of my basses... I have a nice customer in Scotland that would be glad to let you play his CT Tribute 4 strings. I know it's a long shot but who knows?
13. Don't know if it can be interesting... but I have a 5er with 21 frets and 35" scale that only needs the pickup (routed for a Barts MV5 that I had to use on another bass). Completely made of Padouk, very aggressive sounding. The LowB is nicest. I usually need 30 days for a custom build.
14.
Headless? Graphite reinforced, through body neck of quartersawn maple and purpleheart with mahogany wings and a carved heel? Thick ebony fingerboard? 36" scale? 26 frets? 5 strings? Delano SBC pickups? Passive? Neck profile the same as a Smith 5?
No problem with these specs but I only build set-in basses. Many neck-thru basses are in reality set-in 'cause they have the neck going thru the body but cut for the pickups. It's only a different look. Real neck-thru must have the neck as thick as the body wings, without top or back. In this case the pickups routing don't cut the entire grain of the neck blank. As written in my space, extended fingerboard, longer or shorter scale etc. aren't a problem. EDIT: forgot to say that, unfortunately, headless basses are a bit more expensive as I still haven't found a cheaper brand of headless tuners... About the neck heel: on my basses it simply DOESN'T EXIST or, put in a plain manner, you can't reach it with your fretting hand since all the frets accessible and out of the body shape. Take a look at the pics and you'll understand what I mean... I hope my English is decent enough to make things clear.
15. Thanx a lot for your kindest words! 6ers cost €900 but shape, scale, number of frets, woods etc. can be chosen by the customer.
16. Thanx a lot! Glad you like it.
17. Thanx for your comments... I've put it here for a trade or partial trade, if it doesn't find a home for the end of the week I'll probably put it for sale.
18. I'm not a builder with 20 years of experience but have many body shapes available. Many peoples keep asking for this shape as it looks pretty, is balanced and pretty eye-catching. When I've built Patrick Djivas' bass (in the avatar) he didn't want the "hook" upper horn but he ended up being very happy with the hand carved scroll. As I said, it's a matter of taste. I've built only a bunch of basses but, for their owners, they're something that could never be replaced. So, even if my stuff isn't for everybody's taste, I'm happy
19. I'm in Italy... shipping is €50 (insured, 3 days delivery) but I'll cover this if I find an interesting trade. When I sell my stock basses I always offer a 24 hours approval period but, after selling about 10 basses worldwide, no one ever wanted to return his If it was a 4 I'd be keeping it. But sixers aren't my thing. If it doesn't find a new home I'll probably sell it on eBay sooner or later... but thought it could be nice to give BCers a chance to take it without much hassle.
20. They're actually wooden nails. They make the neck joint even stronger... but the neck is GLUED IN, so the nails are only a plus. This body shape isn't everybody's cup of tea, I understand it... but if you go over the look you find it's extremely comfortable and balanced.
21. Hello! Glad you like it. I usually sell a sixer for €900 but I'm selling this one as an ex-demo...
22. Hello! I guess it's not against rules if I post one of my basses for trade. These are the specs: Quarter-sawn Ovangkol neck with dual action truss rod, set-in 5 pieces American Cherry/Maple body with "CT Tribute" body shape Makassar fingerboard with 21 frets (can defret it if the new owner wants me to do it) Chrome hardware, bridge with adjustable spacing Bartolini Narrow Soapbar pickups Hand rubbed lacquer finish This bass is really nice for both slapping or soloing. Medium weight (about 4.5kg if I remember well) and the medium scale makes it very easy to play. It's perfectly balanced both standing and sitting and cuts the mix very very well. The Low B is perfectly balanced with other strings and is nice and growly. I've built this bass for my stock but since I have some problem with my left hand I keep playing 4 strings basses. I'd like to trade this puppy with a nice amp: Acoustic Image, Ashdown Little Giant etc. - effects or cash can be involved to make things fair for both buyer and seller. A good Digitech BNX, a Boss GT10B or things like that can always come in handy! Drop me a line and let me know what you have. If you want to take a look to my builds you can reach my myspace page, the address is in my signature ^_^ EDIT: due to the amount of message asking for a sale price... €650 shipped for BCers!
23. Hello! Need to get rid of this nice cab. It belongs to the first Markbass series called "Standard" (completely black). 6Ohm, 600w, 3x10". Nice little cab, light and pretty powerful. €400 shipped within Europe. Pics upon request. The cab works perfectly.
24. Yes, it's a nice little cab. Slightly larger than a 2x10", pretty light... I like it but I already have a three ways enclosure I use for both bass and guitar and a huge cab for rehearsals.
25. I've owned a 5 strings example of the real thing... very nice design. 1 piece Saman body (a sort of Mahogany), 1 piece Maple neck with graphite reinforcements, Ebony fingerboard, 1 side-by-side Ibanez magnetic pickup and piezo bridge (single saddles). The bass had a nice set-in construction (pretty close to what I use on my instruments) and had a good unplugged sound. Unfortunately, the piezo wasn't very useful (very harsh and brittle) and the magnetic pickup was pretty cheesy. With a set of Barts it could really be a nice instrument. Had a form-fitted hardcase with green interior. Its price was very high but a used one can be found for €750 or more, depending from conditions and configuration. Not all the basses had the Saman body, I've seen some with figured Maple. I ended up trading mine with a Tobias Growler... maaaaaany years ago. BetaFunk: I know where I could find a fretted 4, if this helps.
