A Hofner is probably a terrible choice unless they want a specific sound and are happy with the limitations of what can be done on the instrument. What sort of music does she like to play?
True enough.
Same goes for an EB-0.

Latest word from the lady in question 'I don't care what it looks like, it's the sound that matters'.
😎
She's already playing ukulele and guitar (well right now she's banging out a 12 bar blues on the piano but that was from her younger days !!), so the current discussion is all around lessons, what on and how often and what do we do when the magic money tree stops producing!!!
Good thing about buying a bass today?
You can buy one that feels good, sounds good, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 looks good.
Now more than ever before.

Hi everyone. Email shot just landed and it includes new Charvel basses. The spec looks pretty good for the money if the looks are to your liking!!
heres the link to Charvel https://www.charvel.com/gear/shape/san-dimas-bass/pro-mod-san-dimas-bass-pj-iv/2965068518
and to your local guitar shop

No tone control in passive mode, just like the new Meteora.
That's some forward thinking, there!
Not to mention they still refuse to properly shield them.
They know it's an issue but they just don't care.

Reverb is number one?
Do people actually buy from it? I've never seen one affordable item there.
$900 Italia Imola for $425.
$2,000 G&L for $1,350.
Both mint...another way of saying better than new.
Just two of the nine basses I bought from Reverb...every single one better than most of the stuff I see at Sweetwater, AMS, Zzounds, Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc.
Other than that, I see great deals all the time...can't even begin to count them.
(Just did an extensive search...no one else has either bass for sale, not even for the inflated prices so many sellers are demanding these days.)

The main difference being you're not getting the bass. Care to elaborate further?
One reason, with Affirm, I can get a bass that price for $45 a month.
Another reason, i have eleven basses, four with jazz pickups, and don't really need another one that badly.
Final reason, I tried to buy it using PayPal today but it keeps punting my preferred method of payment...which it's never done before, so I'm working on it.

Squier, once more showing Fender it isn't all about black, white, 2-color sunburst, 3-color sunburst and 27 other various bursts.
Other than that, I'm well aware that different lighting can change what a color looks like, but the Squier Capri Orange definitely looks better than the Fender finish...richer, bolder.

Big difference between PayPal and Affirm...really big.

I have two USA-made G&L L2000s and a Reverend Thundergun...among the best basses made, but there's just something special about my Italia Imola.
