When Jack Casady suggested to Gibson that they reissue the Les Paul Signature Bass, they sent him to Epiphone who went to Peerless in Korea to make the basses for them. Then they took production to China so Peerless brought out their own version.
So here we have a Peerless Bassmaster Player, which apart from the headstock and tuners is pretty much identical to the Epi.
Really nicely built and sounds great, currently strung with rounds, should I try a set of flats which the seller sent me. Rounds / Flats???

  2. Some people might disagree, but I think Fender simply doesn’t care.

I was excited when this bass came out until I noticed the typical truss-rod access bs, but that was only strike one, and let's face it, no chance of hitting it out of the park now with two strikes and the batter standing there with the bat on his shoulder and the next pitch halfway to the plate.

Never seen/heard that type of pick-up on a bass before, sounds nice (if very vintage-y) on that Empire Music video, I'm unsure what it would be like in a band situation though - let's see if anyone starts using them!
    Certainly looks pretty cool though.

Not sure if it would kick a P or (standard) J out of the arsenal but if you wanted something different to those two whilst still feeling familiar in the hands then I don't see why not!

Supro used them on their Huntington basses.

  4. Something new from Fender.

Available in 2-Color Sunburst, too, but it just doesn't work. Sorry Fender, you should've gone with Shell Pink.

    Sweetwater...$1,299.99.

(Yes, a lot of money for an MIM, but...)

    SPLIT BRICK
Strong lows and highs, open mids. Like a vintage P bass pickup but with more beef, yet retains clarity. 43 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 8.5K ohms.

    THICK BRICK
Warm and thick with strong mids. Output and punch like an active, but more organic sounding. 42 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 7K ohms.

There is a gorgeous hand made Bass on here over the last few days that is for sale at about a third of its new price. It was a bargain but had no interest and the price was dropped about 20% and it still hasn’t sold. Whether you like it, or understand it, there is something about Fenders that people like and that makes them a ‘safe buy’. I have dabbled with a range of stuff but always come back to a Jazz. My Ultra is just the best bass I have ever owned. And it should be given the price! But the prices have gone up so much I could probably break even after a couple of years of ownership.

Something like this is another story entirely, of course.

Yes, I'm well aware that many people are drawn to the Fender name...simply based on that name on the headstock.

Doesn't change what I think about the Player line.

I've played quite a few and they're not bad, they're just not that good...and they're simply unappealing when compared to so many other similar basses. Sure, many will claim looks aren't important, but that's ridiculous.

Occasionally you'll see a special Player bass, the Green Burst is okay, but it seems Fender saves the more attractive finishes for certain USA models.

By the way, I do own these, and wouldn't trade either for a Fender player Jazz, even if Fender threw in a Rumble 500.

A new day a new body. I feel sorry for what this will go through. It's a 2 piece alder Guitar and Bass Builds body from ebay in a rather fetching copper leaf (no, it's NOT rose gold, no matter what my wife says!). It's very nice feeling, well finished

Waiting for the pickup routing template before doing anything too drastic to the wood work, hence the bulge in the pickguard where the battery is.

For a bonus round anyone care to guess which badly played eight bars is the alder and which the merenti?

They feel pretty distinct to me, though maybe not as much difference as I'd thought. Recorded straight into a UAD Arrow interface through the HI Z input with the vol and tone on max.

We'd be supposing that the hi mass bridge would abstract out most of the body effect (yes, yes, I know, tone wood schmone wood).

Dare to be different...beats most finishes Fender's doing. Looks like something from Bacchus.
