  2. I've been keeping my basses at a friend's house for the past few months so Ive been going to Guitar Center two or three times a week.

Played quite a few P basses, several Squier Sonics, a few of the new Fender Standard Precisions,  a couple of Player IIs, and some of the American P basses, too.

I'm not talking about just playing a few scales, I'm talking about playing along to my ipod, half a dozen songs or more...really getting a feel for the basses.

I currently don't own a P bass, so I was getting familiar with the typical Fender stock...and I was definitely surprised by quite a few. Would've grabbed a Sonic had I found one in Graffiti Yellow. Could've walked away with a Candy Cola Fender Standard, too.

The P bass has been getting the job done for over 70 years.

However, I just picked up my Jazz bass last week...moved into a new place...and the minute I plugged it in I knew why it was special.

Extremely comfortable, it almost plays itself, and the tone palette is truly full spectrum...the Turbo Switch is a big plus.

So, in reply to the question "Jazz basses, what's the point?"

The answer is simple...it's 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 than a P bass.

A bit more on the Positive Grid one, seeing as I've just got one.

So far (and this could be user error), it's completely and utterly useless. When I got it, I downloaded the Spark app onto my Android phone (Google Pixel 8 Pro) and initially paired the Neo. The Spark app recommended a firmware update, which I did via Windows (note: you can only do firmware upgrades with Windows or Mac) which was successful. I then tried to pair the Neo with a second Android device, a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+, which was unsuccessful. I tried with another Android device, a Nokia T20, again unsuccessfully. I tried these pairings both with the Bluetooth on the phone turned on and turned off, which made no difference. Following Positive Grid's suggestion on their website, I went into settings on the phone and forgot the Neo Audio from the paired devices. I tried again on each of the tablets, also unsuccessfully, and was also unable to re-pair from the phone as it gives an error "incorrect PIN or passkey". I've tried doing the pairing both from within the Spark app and from the Android Bluetooth settings. So now, with no ability to connect via Bluetooth, it is completely useless to me.

I've put in a support request to Positive Grid.

Second time I heard this problem.

I'll only be recommending the Boss Katana Go from now on.

  4. I hate to say it, but I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who gets ripped off...in today's world where one can easily look before they leap via the internet, they get what they deserve.

Right now, I own five basses, I purchased four online without being able to plug in and play first.

I did it the smart way, of course.

Well, I appreciate that clarification, but my point still stands.  I don't think it's worthless information - it's true, isn't it?  There have been many a disappointed noob get one of these thinking they can just join in on an acoustic night armed with nothing but an acoustic bass guitar and dreams.  People tangential to this conversation read this stuff after all.  There's no need to get personal about it, and calling people "completely clueless" just because you don't like what they have to say is a bit rum, old chap.

Sure, it's true, but the same can be said about P basses, Jazz basses, Rics, Stingrays, etc...you have to plug them in.

The OP mentioned he'd be plugging in.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "clueless" but it was the first thing that popped to mind.

I was having a laugh (as indicated by the winking smiley after my text), and I didn't make it personal.  You can stick your "clueless" comment somewhere else - I've owned two, and it was two too many for me, that's my clue, it is derived from personal experience.  If you like 'em, you're not wrong - I'm not going to call you names for liking them, so how's about a bit of respect for those whose opinions you disagree with?

I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about the people who find it necessary to post "You can't really hear them unplugged" and other worthless information every time some starts a thread about acoustic basses.

Any experience with Ibanez acoustic basses? It will not be my main bass, just something to grab for a session with a couple of acoustic guitars.

I plan to plug it in

    Ibanez

    Two things.

One, pay no attention to the acoustic bass detractors...they're completely clueless.

Two, go with tapewounds or flatwounds and forget all about bronzewounds.

As for Ibanez acoustic basses, the AEGB24E is pretty good.

Not as nice as my acoustic bass, but not many are.

I believe this uses coated strings. Feel good, nice tone.

Sure, it looks like a Gibson but it might be an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV with a Gibson truss-rod cover, and the simple truth is the Epiphone is every bit as good as the Gibson for maybe one third the price.

    Seller's asking $600.

I'd buy it myself if I had the money or of it's still for sale when I do.

  9. If I had to start anew, I'd start with a Squier Sonic Precision bass.

I'm a big Squier fan, I've owned half a dozen, but when the Sonic first came out, I had a hard time believing a $200 bass was even worth considering...until I actually played one.

Right now, I have five basses and don’t need another one, but if I see this hanging up anywhere, I'll jump on it.

Other than that, there's absolutely no reason not to buy a bargain bass and then buy something special later on.

    I did.

Not to mention, you'll have plenty of money left over to buy a quality amp, and gig bag or case, etc.

  10. They make some nice basses, but these days, who doesn't.

I think they get enough recognition, and I can name several other companies that get less.

Other than that, why should anyone care?

(I have to wonder the same thing every time this subject comes up, no matter the company.)
