Gallup is great and so central to their sound...which is great too 👍
Shame if he left on bad terms...new order survived but its not quite the same, i guess the cure could do likewise.

Slightly off topic, but Lol Tolhurst’s autobiography is a good read.
Sad in parts of course.
yeah i read it, he has made amends but judging by his levinhurst offerings he should have just stayed on drums, it would have definitely been the healthier option.

I was surprised to read that awaiting release are both a Cure album and a Robert Smith solo album. I had had no idea that Robert Smith had ever self-identified as a collaborative musician, and had assumed that everything that ever appeared on a Cure release was pretty much what he wanted. Working on those two things at the same time sounds potentially messy, and, lo, a mess.
I’m surprised also, let’s face it Robert smith is the cure, if you listen to any of the demos and the top which was bass played by Robert and stuff with the glove or the walk and the banshees it becomes fairly clear where the magic is, Gallup is a solid bass player but I was never blown away technically by anything he has done even though he has been a big influence on me. Can’t help thinking Robert was always the puppet master.

It wouldn't surprise me if the real reason is back problems, 40 years of being almost bent double must have taken some toll!
Ah…so that’s why hooky left…

Hopefully they’ll kiss and make up before the get out touring their next album.
well he did leave for a while in the 80s, but for him this was a pretty cushy number, I'm honestly a little surprised he would quit now.

A band... equipment... space to rehearse... looks like heaven... 😊
not really...it was like spending the evening in a dank kgb interrogation cell.

Someone needs to mention Henry "King Thumb" Thomas of Rockschool fame I think. Oh ! Hang on ! I just did 😃

i got my westone after seeing harvey bainbridge of hawkwind using one on their sonic attack tour. He got a pretty good sound out of it.

@Reggaebass and myself were only talking about the rehearsal studios in Leytonstone a couple of hours ago, it has to be the same place...we used it circa 78- 79.. full of old HH amps ( which is what started us going on about it in the first place !)
yes i think it was hh, maybe to be replaced later on by carslboro stingrays. Maiden had to be using their own gear, marshalls i would imagine. The place was located under a railway arch. I used to be so impressed the way the hh would light up in the dark.

had the annoying pleasure of being in the next room to these guys in some grotty leytonstone rehearsal studio, literally we couldn't hear ourselves over the sound coming through the walls.

Email and ask them. They can do a lot.
just be aware that if it can’t be done with a neck shape they already make and you really really want it… you’ll be paying for new moulds and tooling too…
yes i was wondering about the moulds, it almost seems like their mould might have a vairiable width adjustment, but yes i will email them on this, just trying to work out what might suit me best before i do so.
-
i cant seem to see anything on their website specifically about this but are there three different neck widths for the 4 5 and 6 string options? i was wondering in particular if they might do something like five strings closer together on a four string neck?

I had a thunder iii in the 80s, thought it was really great bass, part exchanged it for a wal.

Ah ok. But a Zoom B1-4 plus those small creatives (T20s) comes to around £125 new. So you pays your money...
Having said that I wouldn't want to be gigging a PJB nano combo with 4" speakers, so we are talking purely about home use here.
Home use for sure, just practising on the sofa type stuff.

I'd say no better than half decent headphones. Decently adequate for home practice, but it's not going to blow you away.
Limitation is always going to be the quality of your speakers with this sort of set up. You'll maybe already have an idea of how good Creative portable speakers and / or a Megaboom are for musical output - that's what you'll be getting with this mini rig set up.
Thing is that the pjb stuff no matter how small handles the lowB, well at least I assume it’s the case with this latest offering, certainly the double four can do it.

I was very impressed with the low b on my headless graphite status 2 using their own strings. The note is very defined, more so than the low e on some other basses. At this scale length I doubt you would get much better.

If you ever come over to london/essex?

Glad you pointed that one out …seems a strange omission not to have batteries, perhaps it’s just a combination of too small an enclosure with too powerful an amp?
