I gigged a lot in my 20s, then family happened. The lost years. I reckon I went months, maybe years not touching a bass except to move it the get to something else. Encouraged by the pupils I teach, who had unearthed one of my old bands, I restarted in my late 30s with a talented originals band, just done our first recording and have some promising gigs lined up, but everything has just imploded because of an argument over an album cover, the band is apparantly dead.
I'm 40, probably too old to be in an originals band treading the unsigned indie circuit, but I have never had any interest in being in a covers band. I don't want to give up, but I can't see how I can continue.
Keep doing originals. Invest in a home recording set-up? I was in exactly the same predicament. Playing covers fills me with dread and IMO you're basically saying you are done with creating new music or can't do it anymore. The thought of punters screaming Wonderwall or Mustang Sally... *shudder*
There are musos who still want to play originals. Just much harder to find the older you get.

I've started experimenting with the Dunlop Big Stubbys recently and I highly recommend them.

For some reason, all too often the advice on here is to threaten to walk every time there is an issue. If the the other guy is a founder member and the OP is by his own admission 'not the greatest bassist the world', there is only going to be one winner and the band will be looking for a new bass player.
A better idea would be after playing a song in rehearsal where he particularly struggles with the BVs, say to the singer or BL (NOT the guy you have an issue with) that you're not sure whether the harmonies in a particular section of the song are working and get them to go over and over the vocals that he is struggling with. At no time are you having a go at the founding member, you are just trying to work on the vocal arrangement. Once you have gone repeatedly over a section that he is not singing properly (preferably a cappella, i.e. just the vocals), then see if he is so keen on calling out every minor mistake that you make?
So be passive aggressive instead?

After a busy year with the band, writing, recording and our first few gigs including a support slot with a thrash metal legend, I've come to realise gigging isn't for me.
I enjoy the actual gig but get stressed out for a couple weeks before and I've decided it's not worth the stress. We've got two more gigs in January and then I'm out of the band and selling my gear. I'm not much of a home noodler and don't really enjoy playing along to songs so I guess that's it.
I don't understand 'stressed out'? You mean nerves?

BTW, in the end, I got a TGI Extreme bag from GigGear in Harlow. Surprisingly good bag all round, and for £59, a win.
Thanks again for the help everyone
Great bags, I have had one for years with no issues.

A simple proposal will do the job:
Stop the unprofessional comments or I walk.
Speak to your other bandmates before speaking to the problem child. They may share a similar opinion.

If she was no good to begin with, why was she taken aboard?

My Squier is used at rehearsal every week. Love it.

What does it all mean? In my old school world its a superbly written iconic pop tune but is that the reason it's there or is something else going on...Surely kids today want something from there own scene making the top for xmas...Wheres Ed Sheeran, Adele, et al?
But you told the kids that music today is rubbish, listen to the old stuff, that's better.

Counterfeits are gonna counterfeit 🤷♂️
Si
I guess this is a cheaper way of removing all bass and treble from your sound.

You could sell it in the BC marketplace has mint condition?

I remember when I had to sell up and had no basses.
I saved money and purchased another one.

The input jack engaged will turn on the pedal. With no input jack, it will not turn on.
-
Is there a lead in the input jack when you connect to the power source?

It's amazing how many players believe that going from Thomastik flats to heavy gauge drop tuning rounds won't have much effect on the neck.
I find even switching brands, still the same gauge, will require a truss rod tweak.

Have you tried running the spark into the Beta and by having both, having 3 awesome sounds?
Not yet...
-
Difficult situation now... I like the Spark and Beta MKII in different ways. The Spark is more neutral and organic sounding but the Beta gain and break-up sounds more valve like... sigh! Beta reminded me a lot of the Bearfoot Blueberry.

A mate has let me borrow his Beta MkII for a few weeks so I get to compare it one on one with the Spark tonight at rehearsal. Stand by...

Well that's not the original pickguard for a start.

Apologies, didn't even mention the bass guitars in the original post.
2016 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass installed with DR Pure Blues.
2021 Squier 40th Anniversary Precision Bass installed with Dunlop Flatwounds.

Any SS amp with a low gain OD in front of it will do the job.
40th Anniversary Precision £259 at Thomann!

Nobody will be buying a Squier Classic Vibe / 40th Anniversary for £600 right now. Unless you're very dim.
