I find Mr Brightside to be extremely average. There's absolutely nothing original or interesting about it. Not as bad as Ed Sheeran though. Just radio friendly unit shifting music written for maximum sales. That particular Sinatra legend came from a few different stoner metal pioneers (Nick Oliveri, Josh Homme, Mario Lalli and Pepper Keenan) and its fairly well documented that the police shut down all metal shows in Palm Springs plus Sinatra was there at that time plus he hated metal.

That's a list of bland average news. Nothing but elevator music. The only one of them that has really contributed to the future of music was Sinatra and that was accidental. He used his mafia connections to get all rock gigs shut down in Palm Springs so the bands started having generator party's in the desert and Stoner Metal was born thanks to Frank. The other bands are just music for people who aren't interested in music. The peak of mediocrity.

Beringer tuner Boss LMB3 bass limiter Orange Two Stroke boost / eq Earthquake Devices Plumes overdrive Orange Fur Coat fuzz with octave up Way Huge Pork & Pickle fuzz / overdrive Electro Harmonix Bass Clone chorus All mounted on a Pedaltrain Metro 24 with a Donner power supply and connected through the effects loop of my Orange Terror amp. It's mostly various types of distortion. The Two Stroke is my favourite at the moment, it really gives the pre amp a nice kick for a nice natural sounding distortion. The fur coat is absolutely disgusting, perfect for doomy stuff.

There's so many gig announcements at the moment that I'll be spending all this months wages on gig tickets. So far this week I've booked Skints, Wildhearts, Grade 2, Bad Religion and Meshuggah. I can't wait to get back in the pit

I didn't expect this sort of debate when I started this thread, I half expected to be told to fork off and that would be it. Since there's little agreement here, can everyone at least agree that Korn's slap lines sound like a filing cabinet falling down a fire escape? Slap from 1:18. Just horrible. Fieldy has said in interviews he hates the sound of bass guitar and to be fair to him, this sounds nothing like a bass guitar unless it's in a filing cabinet falling down a fire escape.

I'll agree double pedal is often used badly but there are some particularly talented drummers who get away with using it a lot, Danny Carey of Tool and Mario Duplantier of Gojira are both incredibly good examples.

Nope. Metal is what I listen to most but even then I don't like Korn or any of the other bands who play nearly all slap. I just dislike the sound of slap other than where used as a percussion effect (Epic by Faith No More for example). That's just my particular taste. Im not saying its bad, just that I dislike it. I'm sure many people dislike the heavily overdriven bass sound I like.

I've tried it and can play a few Rage and FNM songs which have a little slap but never tried any songs with lots of slap because there aren't any I like.

Fair although they're pleasant enough to watch, I just don't want to hear them.

I'll be honest, Id rather watch Davie 504 than Scott Devine. Scotts lessons are really boring (I tried them for a couple of months) his very rare videos where he talks about metal bassists contain a lot of what can only be described as bollocks and some say he has never finished a sentence without saying "holding down the low end" at least 8 times.

There's definitely a place for it and I think a few musicians have perfected using it sparingly. Billy Gould is the best example I can think of, he mainly uses slap just when his part is more percussion with a little tone rather than melodic. Tim Commerford uses slap very sparingly but for some reason, I've seen bassists cover his bass lines with slap start to finish and it sounds terrible.

Am I the only person who plays bass and generally hates slap? I think it can sound good when used sparingly (like Billy Gould or Tim Commerford) but I hate songs which are just slaps and pops all the way through. I really dislike songs which weren't slapped covered by a bassist who plays slap all the way through. I don't even like Primus. Am I on my own with this?

Is the pick guard made from tone plastic?

I've got a old Peavey Zephyr which had a pair of 4 wire humbuckers. I've been told by someone that I could wire the wire a switch to switch between single coil and humbucker. Is that correct and what could I expect it to sound like as a single coil? Would it sound a bit crap or would I get a jazz bads type sound.

They are a great band but I actually enjoyed their original stuff more than their Ramones covers.

High sales rarely mean good music. Just as Jedward, Spice Girls, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer

My wife sends out several parcels a day with Hermes and not had a single problem. It probably helps that our local driver is pretty decent.
