clear 2 part epoxy? That will be bullet proof once cured - same stuff they use to lacquer fretless bass fingerboards. (Yes International coatings Marine varnish, polyurethane is still going)

Constant frustration for me as a bassist trying to get the drummer to keep steady tempo. One band I play with (middle of the road pop/blues stuff) has a more senier drummer and he's always sagging the pace, I find myself [i]willing[/i] him to play faster, ending up a little in front of the beat and making it sound less tight. The other band I play with is punk rock stuff, more powerful and fast, the drummer is quite young and always racing off getting faster and faster as the song progresses. It's quite a challenge playing Babylon's Burning at 150bpm. I find myself straining to will him to settle back and end up playing a little slow which again makes the sound less tight. I've tried the drums and I'm no good at it, but the wrong tempo really really bugs me.I got a tempo/metronome app on the ipod to try out next practice.

Hmm, how's he gonna copy it? If he had facilities to do that he could play it into his soundcard and do it himself

Audacity is a free download for pc - u can play the cassette into your soundcard line in and record it in Audacity, then save in mp3 format.

Are they going to get much sympathy by protesting at NAMM?

They can meet up with all the US and Euopean workers whose factories closed down over the last 20 years due to manufacturing moving over to Asia. Kort will lose the US contracts and business will move on to even lower cost bases in Indonesia, China, Vietnam,, where we will all complain about the shoddy quality and long for the days when we were able to spend far more money on instruments and keep the business local. It's all a sad mess. We're all too happy to be able to buy much cheaper instruments, but this is the longer term result of the inevitable economic shift. Ain't capitalism evil? Unlike communism, eh?

thanks to all for the input - I feel like I've learnt quite a lot today, about technical matters, cab designs and bass players perceptions. These forums are great when they work in this positive way. I can feel a group hug coming on.

...so you've still got two 8 ohm cabs with differnt power usages due to the physics of shifting different volumes of air. What seems to be implied on the talkbass forum is that an optimal system should have different impedance 4x10 so they both have matched response, i think. I'm starting to lose the plot a little now, I have to admit.

On the other forum there's an interesting debate going on about using 410 and 115 cabs together. Due to different power demands, people are saying they should be different impedance, as it takes different energy to drive 4 x 10" speakers than it does one 15" speaker. If thats the case then why do all the major companies sell same impedance 410's, 210's and 115's, designed to be used in pairs? Who is correct?

Agree with Max - what's wrong with the bypass built into each of the pedals? Are you getting tone drain? You could use a simple looper pedal to remove the entire pedal train from the signal path if you wanted, but to have each pedal separately on their own ('true')bypass would need a special custom build, which I'm sure Max could help you out with!

esp. if the cabs are really for monitoring I'd very much doubt with your rig you'd have any problem not hearing them

I like the idea of the platform trolley. I was contemplating cobbling together a sort of wheeled tray device as an option instead of having to drill holes for casters in my new Hartke 410 cab. This would allow it to be pushed across floors easily and also to be lifted off for good floor contact for live gigs. The other option is get the drill out and install some detatchable casters to it. I'm really not sure if sitting on plastic wheels affects the sound quality, I guess it depends on the floor. I suppose with the tea tray option I could push round the PA speakers as well if needed, and it keeps the 410 cab pristine. I'd fix a small lip to it so the cab didn't slide off when it was pushed.

Only the octaver is controlled by an optional footswitch, which is not supplied with the amp. I use a standard Boss pedal switch I had lying around in my bag plus a standard instrument cable and it works fine - note: octaver has to be enabled on front of amp for footswitch to work. You could argue that it would be handy to have the mute and also the EQ defeat also footswitchable, but sadly it ain't.

3 pots at £3.50 each, jack socket at £3.50, couple of caps at 50p max, a few bits of wire. A little more than a tenner, but not much. Half an hour with a soldering iron.

Not wishing to hijack the thread but what is the correct convention for wiring them when making a Speakon to 1/4" jack lead?
