The DBS7400? I had one of those, great amp, paired it with a Marshall VBC412 cab, was a set up capable of blowing those doors off that Michael Caine spoke about.

I have one: 400 Watt continous, 4000 Watt peak! (into 2 Ohm)

I just find it irrationally annoying to me when folks add a decimal point & then use a smaller unit of measure. It's like commenting that you had 3,000 milligrams of Sodium. NO, you had 3 Grams!

What about the otherway round though.

    0.005 Metres instead of 5mm?

This for a long time has been regarded as an urban myth. Hendrix was supposed to have said it in an interview, after the Isle of Wight festival in 1970, even the type of interview is in question, some say it was audio, others swear blind it was a written article. The great man himself (Rory) didn't believe Jimi had said it. No one has ever been able to find the interview.

I'd fallen for the myth, so thanks for putting me right.

I'd happily give the award to Prince.

Not only was he technically superbly proficient he was also a top class songwriter which, for me, tends to be the area where most 'guitar heros' are weakest.

In a nutshell Prince had the talent and he used it to make music that large numbers of people actually wanted to listen to.

But that's not the question. The question is "best guitar player".

If we're taking song writing into account then Richard Thompson must be up there in the top ranks.

Personally, I like playing with tracks and a click. It generally makes the band sound better and tighter.

For Click tracks I can see what you are saying. For backing tracks it's not the band that are tighter, it's the backing track. Why not go the whole hog and just put a CD on?

Apparently 14 AWG isn't great for power cords, because they're too stiff & cause issues, but the SJOOW 14 AWG pair that I used for SpeakON didn't seem stiff.

14 AWG refers to the overall size/area of the conductor. However a 14 AWG flexible cable comprises of multiple strands of finer wire. If it is a few thicker wires then the cable will be stiffer. If it's a lot of smaller wires then it will be more flexible.

In European terms this is normally indicated by a number and the size of the individual cores e.g:

6 mm² CSA ,  84/0.3 mm will be alot more flexible than  6 mm² CSA , 7/1.04 mm

(note that in the "7/1.04 mm" part the size refers to the strand diameter)

    - they're hand built [from CNC rough cut parts]

And the problem with that is??

Personally I would rate a CNC produced part over hand made any day. More accurate, more repeatable, and cheaper (provided the manufacturer has a CNC machine in the first place). No downside at all.

True but I think the US gets quite a bashing at times ... my personal preconceptions have always been shattered whenever I have been there.

Most of the peole I've met over there have been great. However, when out eating/drinking I'm always aware that the person next to you my be 'Carrying'.

    Does Alex Horne count?

More of a frontman to The Horne Section than an actual musician but the unit as a whole is very good. I'm not sure about 'decent musical output' though.

I used to quite like Richard Digance back in the day, he has comedic and serious acoustic folky output.

Alex Horne? Really? I didn't realise he was a comedian. Never made me laugh.

Bill Bailey's musical output is always worth a look. Makes up a fair chunk of his stand-up shows, so he puts plenty of effort on to it.

If you haven't seen it, his Enter Sandman is a work of genius, and his take on the Match of the Day and BBC News theme's are splendid.

The thing with Bill Bailey is that I love his comedy - until he starts playing music and then,  mehh.

EDited to add: To be fair it's not just hime. I've never been a fan of music in comedy. Finales of the Two Ronnies,  Spitting image etc .... all those: time to put the kettle on.

Anyone see this? The first one was on on Thursday (BBC2 8pm) . Available on I-player I presume.

Basically it's about how pubs are struggling financially. The first episode was pre-covid, and one of the pubs in the first episode featured a pub which prided itself on live Music, but the host questioned them paying as high as £100 for a live band.

IIRC he was commenting on the margin that the landlord paid the band (of the increased take) as opposed to the margin that he was making on his beer, rather than the absolute amount, ie the band did better out of it than the landlord did..
