@Eldon Tyrell I think you are lucky to have a "not-for-sale" bass, meaning you've found something that fits you so well and also lucky for the Starr bass- haven't seen many out in the wild. It is fun to try new things even with the caveat of them most probably not becoming a not for sale bass....

Well, I tried securing another potential "not for sale" bass, the Ian Hill signature model, today. Unfortunately, I was outbid on ebay 😞

I spot an opportunity for cunning guitar companies to sell "signature" models without having to pay the artists. Look out for the new Steve Via model from Ibanez any day now.

Good idea. However, it is probably only creating a business opportunity for the artists' lawyers.

@Eldon Tyrell that's a beauty, black cherry is one of the best finishes for me on a Spector, I had a Euro 5LX but foolishly sold it.

Too bad about the neck profile but there's nothing you can do really other than selling it it. Once you play the Starr you'll always be reminded....

@Paulhauser followed your advice. Sold the Euro as I just could not make it work for me. Still have the Starr, my only "not for sale" bass. Killer combo -solid maple wings, EMGs and the US Haz (originally came with the TP, but I got it replaced with a Haz when they were still available to buy).

Man, times, flies, they introduced it more than 10 years ago! Check out this video from the launch event at NAMM in Jan 2015. It shows Mike Starr's sister Melinda, Stuart Spector, and PJ Rubal. Don't know who the bloke on the left is. Any idea?)

The video features one of my fav basslines. The one that really got me wanting to buy a Spector. If I would, could you?

Only one more day until I'll be in possession of my new (used) Euro 4 LX. A particularly lovely looking red one from Eldon Tyrell (top bloke).

My P bass may become neglected.

Thanks, Steve. However, we better don't jinx it. Let's first hope that UPS collects it today and delivers it safely tomorrow!  🤞

  5. I always tell myself that I am getting used to it, but it never works. The neck on my Euro Mike Starr is much more to my taste and I know that the Ian Hill also has the right neck for me, but they hardly ever come up for sale and the currently available limited edition has a 12th fret inlay that is just too big for me (or I am just not a big enough JP fan).

  6. I am selling this lovely 2012 Spector Euro 4 LX in black cherry. I recently got it from Japan as somehow Japanese customers always get the best looking basses 🙂

The condition is really good with only a few marks and the bridge shows some tarnishing.

I also include a new Euro bridge as the original one has a very tight bridge slot for the A string.

It also comes with a nice gig bag and an instruction manual (in Japanese).

Reason for selling: The neck is too chunky for my taste as I prefer the thin neck specs (e.g., the Ian Hill Euro or Kramer era NS-2s).

I am only selling it for how much it cost me.

Apropo of nothing,  today I came across some footage from the early '90's of Bernard Edwards playing his Ferrari Red Spector NS2. Looked like a fairly early model with dot markers rather than the crown MOP inlays they come with now.

It must be the bass he played on Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer. I know that bass went to John Taylor after Bernard died.

Looks like he also played it in Chic:

You are right. I need to find an Ian Hill model, the PJ version. That also visually goes well with the Mike Starr - Black and White, Yin and Yang, the dark side and the light side etc etc etc.

  9. My poorly taken photo does not do the bass justice. It looks much better in real life.

The Japanese retailer's photos capture the finish much better.

Guess you already sold it 😉

It finally arrived on May 1st. Great looking and sounding bass.

I haven't sold it yet, but I am tempted. The neck is too chunky for my taste. Not as bad as some others I had, e.g a black LT with Fishman Fluence pickups.

I am telling myself that I will get used to it, but I just played my Euro Mike Starr signature that has a nice thin neck (probably modeled on Mike's Kramer era NS-2) and it felt sooo much better.

  11. Shipping to the US can get stressful. The value of the shipment also seems to matter. At least that's what I was told when I shipped my Timmy C to the US back in 2023.  I posted this back then (Oct 2023) in another thread:

I recently (June) sold a Stingray Timmy C to a buyer in the US. Well, the local depot here in the UK wanted to know if I had a CITES license. I could convince them that there was no need for one. I also had to send them the commercial invoices again as they somehow had managed to lose them. I only found out about the "missing" commercial invoices after checking the tracking info online where it said that they were waiting for the forms and that they had contacted the seller (i.e., me). Well, they obviously did not contact me and I had to chase them up.

Then the US counterparts asked me to fill in a toxic substance control act declaration (TSCA, I guess because of the fretboard glue!), a manufacturer's affidavit (actually this should have been filled in by EBMM but I put in the info myself and I also attached the original invoice from EBMM. Interestingly, after some googling I found out that a manufacturers affidavit is normally used for shipments over $10,000.00. Well, the Timmy C is a great bass but not not THAT expensive ; -), and a foreign shipper declaration. The buyer was also asked to fill in an import declaration and a TSCA form (importer single entry). Looks like these checks came into place as the bass returned to the US where is was made and because the value was above $2500. All in all a lot of hassle, costing me time and energy. So, in short, my advice to you - if someone from the US wants to buy one of your basses that was made in the US and that is worth more than $2500, then kindly decline it (unless you don't mind filling in several forms and spending lots of time emailing custom officials and people working in depots ; -).

The only issue is I'm not sure how close the Spectors within my budget will sound to the full fat USA ones. So, I guess my question to any Spector aficionados is - what's the model to look out for within my budget that sounds the best/most like the US ones?

As others have already said, within your budget, the Pulse is a great choice. Get rid of the TP Jr preamp that everyone seems to hate and replace it with a Haz clone, like the LHZ (new version LHZ-04 is out now) or use the LHZ-HL-1  pedal (Haz clone in pedal format), and you are almost there. Enjoy 🙂

Hi 9lbs 2ozs, the pups look original the cloth covered wiring is untouched and matches the rest of the wiring, hope that helps

    Thanks.

Was this is a special order? Normally, the Streamers from that period (and probably still now) all came with active MECc pickups without exposed pole pieces and 2 band EQ (yours is passive).

Like another 1997 Streamer LX you used to own:

    LHZ-03 #739 is in.

It sounds like it should now. And it sounds subtly different to the others. In fact my four 4s all sound a bit different from each other, which must point towards wood differences. They've all got newish D'Addario EXL170s. This one, Peacock, has an ebony board.

I also treated her to some Schaller strap pins. The new strap pins used on newer Euros are rubbish.
