I have a couple of neo single twelve cabs that are great when "almost as good" is good enough but for those special occasions I'm happy to make the extra effort. This particular TE combo and cab are the smaller 33cm deep versions and even I (nearly 58, 5'9", 11st 7lbs) can move them relatively easily.

On the other hand, perhaps we should all quit public performances once we are too frail to move anything other than balsa wood instruments and ultra light gear? 😅

Suspect the Stones et al will be tottering around on stage while they can still manage their (titanium/carbon fibre?) Zimmer frames. Or maybe animatronic substitutes.

Weight seems to be a major issue with the old Trace Elliot combos. Solution: get a TE head (around 12kg) and pair it with modern lightweight cabs.

This. Am using Laney Nexus N410 + N115 cabs plus (more than 12kg) TE AH500x. Sounds fabulous.

  3. Aand just got it back from a clean up / set up with new d'Addario Black Tapewounds, Fret Polish. Sounds absolutely great and plays beautifully.

Low B sounds enormous, a perfect match with a Trace Ah500x / Epifani UL501. Been playing it most of last weekend.

Even prefer it to my Sire M2. !!!!

  4. Yes. I checked out the history a bit, the guys name was Steve Goodrick. Been playing with it today, sounds very good indeed. Big old lump of a thing, lighter than my Trace though.😅

Sounds absolutely lovely through my Epifani and am Itching to get my KSD back from Luthiers.

However, need to get a tonepocket or similar, keep on neglecting to use my practice Amp & I live in a Flat !!! Headphones time B4 the neighbours start a petition.

  5. Obscure/Unsuccessful. Took a punt on this v cheap. Sounds very nice, valve pre seems pretty good eq a bit complex for me. Compressor useful. Not sure it's 800w loud, not that this is (or ought to be) a problem. Anyone else seen/tried one, if so did YOU like it.

Heard this great track from Budgie the other day.

It really made me think what an amazing voice Burke Shelley has, being Welsh his phrasing and tone is very similar to Shirley Bassey on the melodic stuff.

+1. Budgie never really registered with me back in the day. Heard them on an OGWT rerun a few years ago. He was a really strong singing bassist. Gather sadly that he has really severe health problems nowadays.

    Sorry, I'll be more specific...

    QSC K12.2 👍

Yes, would like to hear that with a nice preamp etc. Being a Luddite and hobbyist am over invested in trad Amps Cabs presently. Primarily lightweight Cabs admittedly.

My very first bass was literally 100% covered in stickers... and when I say 100%, I mean it. The fretboard was stickered, the pickups, the back of the neck, the headstock, literally everywhere!! It made it play HORRIBLY but with me being 14 at the time it looked freakin' cool!

These days, I HATE stickers on instruments... drives me crazy when I buy a bass/guitar that's been stickered mostly because the removal of said stickers is such a pain in the arsé!

Though I have recently realised that hand sanitizer removes sticker glue very nicely! :)

Isopropyl Alcohol. Good for tapeheads etc too (non perfumed match)

A lot of the custom/exotic stuff is aimed primarily at wealthy weekend warriors - architects, lawyers, et al - who play in bands in their spare time. Nowt wrong with that. I'd far rather the companies concerned were making instruments than a lot of other dubious stuff. However, they won't necessarily be better, viewed purely as functional tools, than a decent Squier, Cort or similar. They just look a lot nicer and give greater pride of ownership.

I played in a band with a group of professional types once. Nice guys, not bad players and being given an occasional lift to gigs in a Rolls was fun.

Types often seen toddling around C London on Harley Davidsons with overloud exhausts and bolt on mean man expressions.😆😆

Yep, totally agree. When I see that e.g. mahogany, ebony and rosewood have  been used for making luxury products (including basses!)  that's an immediate turn off.

Purpleheart seems to be a Kiesel "thing" at the moment. Saw a guitar top there that simply looked like chopped red cabbage to me. Owner was not "impressed" when I pointed this out. Do love some of the Kiesel / Carvin basses mind.

I hope you gave it dam good thrashing afterwards 😂 In good olde John Cleese fashion 😂😆

Borrow some birch twigs from the local sauna. Must admit I've found the Qsc items that have been on sale here fascinating.
