  1. How is the 4x5" cab with other make heads? I'm thinking a Markbass 500w head (300w at 8 ohms) into the little 4x5" cab would make a killer portable rig with a small stage footprint. Do the cabs work well for rocky stuff?

    Helix rant…

It’s definitely better than the one on the HX FX which I had prior to this, but still not as “good” (if that’s the right word) as my Polytune.
  3. That’s actually not a bad idea - will try that!
  4. It won’t, because I’m using IEM and listening to the Helix. As I think I mentioned in a different comment, this is for the benefit of the guitarists in my 2 bands who are allergic to IEM for some reason. The silly sausages.
  5. The 1/4” output on the Helix is tapped before the amp and cab model, so I went into the front end. It was essentially the same as plugging a pedalboard into the Harkte.

Definitely! That would be superb! Even some of the Legacy pedals are based on their own fun ideas I believe.

    Helix rant…

I know you’re trying to be helpful but I’ve genuinely explored all options 😊 Because I’m using the guitar side AND the vocal side and each XLR out has a different signal - which in turn is different to the 1/4” out - I don’t have anything left for a blended fuzz other than using a physical pedal in one of the FX loops. I really can’t get my head around why there is 3 bass specific overdrives (all with clean blends) but no flipping fuzzes - I’ve even tried “making” a fuzz from the Darkglass but it just sounds poop 😢
  8. Actually the HX FX and HX Stomp both work perfectly with both Voodoo Labs and Strymon power supplies. Voodoo Labs even make the exact connector you need now - it’s got a blue tip.

    Helix rant…

Number 3 can’t be used in my specific case - I’ve tried it but you can only do it once per path and other stuff takes priority.

    Helix rant…

So my brand new and shiny Helix Floor (not LT) was meant to be my all-in-one do everything solution for vocals and bass. I was expecting to be able to plus my wireless into that and then have it straight into the PA and, as a result, have an easy life. Alas… 1. The tuner is crap. Therefore I still need to use my Polytune. 2. You CANNOT use the polyphonic drop-tune pedal unless you only want an amp, cab and compressor. It literally devours all the DSP. Ergo, I still need my Digitech Drop. 3. There is no fuzz model with a blend control, so I have to use my Big Muff in one of the loops and blend that way. 4. I’m far too lazy to make patches for each song so I still need to use my Sadowsky preamp pedal for level matching between my basses. So that’s 4 pedals plus a wireless on a mini board next to my “all-in-one” solution. I’m starting to think the honeymoon period is over.
  11. Given that I’ve pretty assertively ruled out any kind of FRFR system for my stage sound - as I already have a 2,500 watt Yamaha “FRFR” PA system - can we get back to small amps to make my life more exciting please? FWIW I used a Harkte head into an Ashdown 4x10 last night and it sounded bloody awful. The old Peavey sounded better.
  12. I guess I’m shying away from a PA speaker, wedge or FRFR because of: -bad experience with the Alto (although I haven’t tried it with my DBR12), -I want the sound to be quite localised, a PA speaker is designed to throw far and wide, -a bit of self indulgence. If I’m doing this I’d still like a nice small amp at the end of it all for the sake of having a nice amp. My only amps currently are the old Peavey I used the other night and a tiny Harkte practice amp.
  13. Very nice indeed! Light and small footprint - I shall have a serious look Thank you!
  14. Well, there’s only been 2 Rickenbacker players that anyone has heard of. One used a pick, one used his fingers. Ergo, the answer is 50/50. (PS - tongue very firmly in cheek here😊)
  15. I’ve seen the Bugeras for sale but never really given them much thought - are they decent? Have you got the tube preamp one or the mosfet one?
  16. Because I’m not 70 years old 😝😝😝 Seriously though, I use IEM so anything I do buy is for the benefit of other members of my 2 bands. This is why I don’t want anything big or overly expensive. I’d love an SVT 2-Pro and an 8x10 but I’d need a bigger car, bigger venues and bigger wallet.
  17. Yeah I’ve tried that previously with an Alto TS315. It was crap, I think having a proper bass cab - even a small one - has a different “feel” to a PA speaker.
  18. This is exactly why I said a “teeny” bit underpowered at 100w. Thank you for taking the time to reply though.
  19. Ah of course - I could tap the 1/4” out after the preamp block but before the impulse response. It’s currently tapped before the preamp. That’s a grand idea.
  20. I hadn’t considered Ashdown but that’s a great shout - thank you!
  21. Hi all! My main FOH sound is from a Helix, but last night I sent the jack output to a little 100W Peavey Max just so there was some sound on stage. The guitarist said he loved it, and much preferred it to having to rely on his floor monitor. We definitely felt a bit tighter than usual, so there may be something in this. The problem is it was just a tiny bit underpowered. Any suggestions for something that has a small footprint and a bit more power? I’m after something that sounds nice too if I’m going down this path. The amp model I use on the Helix is an Ampeg SVT if that helps. I don’t want to spend thousands but I could rustle up £700 or so.
  22. To be fair, I reckon a £25 Alnico Wilkinson or Warman pickup would have breathed some serious life into it. I kind of regret my decision now…
  23. I had the satin P-bass for about 3 days. It looked great but the pickup is awful. The slightly more expensive ones with the Alnico pickups are probably better. Not an issue if you budget a Tonerider or Wilkinson though I guess.
