  1. The official reply from Fender / Squier is;

"The PR number is a reference to the product development project. Each product we make will have a reference number through the R&D stages and on these particular instruments, it was kept on them during production. It is essentially the technical model number."

    So now we know 👍

  2. Does anybody know what the reference; TYPE PR : 839 means?

It's on the headstock of my newly acquired Squier Jazz Bass Deluxe IV which is Indonesian made, in the CORT factory back in 2015.

I emailed Fender this morning to see what they say, just waiting for a reply.

I am grateful to this thread for helping me dodge a bullet. Despite really wanting to play with others again (I moved 525 miles north in late 2020) and someone mentioning that the bass player in their church had moved away, so they needed a replacement, this thread gave me pause and I’m very thankful for the honesty shared here 🙏. Had I taken up the offer, I don’t think I’d have been able to bite my tongue (unusual for me) and some home truths would have been dealt out.

Go for it, approach your church and put yourself out there.

I might have a moan on here but I love playing in church, I use this thread purely to let off a bit of steam, nothing more, nothing less.

  4. @LukeFRC I think I'm just being punished 🤣

Yesterday, the Song Picker announced that they now can't play for the whole of June and July, the Worship Team rota had already been finalised up to the end of July and so this has now got to be totally re-written.  This was not the best decision as we have recently lost the two brothers that both play bass, drums and keys.

This now leaves me as one of two bassists, the only lead vocalist and the only guitarist, so we all know what I'm going to be doing for the foreseeable future.  The worst part is that I'm now stuck on 6-string and vocal duties and the only other bass player is.....The Learner !

You may remember from my previous posts that The Learner has played for around 3 years but has NEVER tuned, and NEVER touched the D and G strings on their bass.  Also, by their own admission, they don't even want to be in the Worship Team.

I've now got to play 6-string and sing whilst listening to The Learner buttf*ck every bassline...my idea of purgatory !!

  5. Our Easter Sunday service went well despite people slipping back into their old ways.

I picked the songs for the past few weeks and on a Monday, without fail, I sent out the the songs for the following Sunday, sadly I wasn't picking the songs for Easter.

Bearing in mind that we had to rehearse on Wednesday last week due to people being away etc, the person picking the songs decided to send out the list at 11:35pm Tuesday night.  The song picker then rang me on Wednesday morning to proudly say that they had sent out the list and it should be fine as we weren't rehearsing until Wednesday, I casually told them that today was Wednesday, and that the first chance I would get to properly listen to the songs was that very evening, AT THE BL**DY REHEARSAL !!   During the rehearsal another song was added, the song picker said that they would work out the key and let us all know, come 3pm Saturday afternoon and we've heard nothing.  I messaged the song picker to ask what key the new song was going to be in, to which they replied that they had completely forgotten about it, hadn't practised it and could I sing it instead.

I love playing in church but sometimes, it drives me up the wall.

  6. I can safely say that my pedals aren't going to wobble or move any more.  The pedal mounts worked incredibly well, I fitted them to the pedals, screwed the holes into the pedalboard and attached the pedals to the board in under an hour without any fuss.

I've ordered some folding legs to give the pedalboard a better angle.

  7. I ended up buying 5 packs of the pre-made pedal mounts, it only came to £17.  If I had bought a bicycle chain and a punch tool it would've come to over £20-25 and then I would've had the task of trying to de-oil the chain also.

  8. @Richard R When I joined our churches worship team, I initially expected to only play bass and sing backing vocals however, God has plans for us all and mine was to end up alternating between bass/backing vocals some weeks, lead vocals/acoustic guitar some weeks and lead vocals/bass the other weeks.

I love the challenge and my singing and guitar playing have definitely improved for it, I used to consider myself a bassist first and foremost but now I play bass and 6 string in equal amounts.  My wife has a keyboard so I'm also planning to learn how to play that soon, I must love to be punished 😁

  9. I had my first singing lesson last week, I decided to go for lessons to learn proper breathing techniques and how to protect my voice because, it is an instrument at the end of the day.  Even after my first lesson, I found it so much easier to sing, my voice sounds softer and warmer and I'm not getting dry, sore throats from forcing my voice too hard.  I also found that my bass playing was more relaxed this Sunday because I wasn't stressing about my vocal performance...it's a WIN WIN!!

I'm only going to have another couple of lessons but, for anyone that sings on a regular basis, I thoroughly recommend giving them a try.

If it helps my voice last longer and keeps me in demand, I'm all for it.

  10. What low-cost methods do you use for guitar pedal mounting brackets?  I found some online but at £4 for a pack of 4, that's going to prove a little more expensive than I expected (picture attached).

Velcro doesn't work for me as pedals still wobble about and eventually fall off.

  11. Like most churches I'm assuming, we select our songs from CCLI, I had a couple of classics that I wanted to play but as they are not licensed on CCLI, we can't play them because if they're still copyrighted we lose the livestream.

I so wanted to do a version of `Here I Am Lord' aka `I, The Lord of Sea and Sky'......denied. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  12. Over the weekend I saw a Tanglewood Rebel 4K bass for sale for £30 on FB Marketplace, clearly the person selling it didn't have a clue what it was as they listed it as a `Canglewood'.

I messaged them to say that I could be  with them in 40 minutes with the cash, they read the message and didn't reply.  I then sent them a short message asking `??'  which they read and again didn't reply.  Then Messenger flashed up that they had increased the price to £50 for no reason, they then replied to me and said that tomorrow morning would be better.  I replied that I was no longer interested as they had upped the price and they could stick it.

It's still a great price but I'm not being mugged off.  If it's still on there in a couple of weeks, I'm going to offer them £20 😂

  13. @Richard R Glad to hear that your Sunday went well 🙏.

Mine went better than I expected it to thankfully and the ill-planned 5 song medley went well, even though it became a 6 song medley and the song order changed on Friday night and then again on Sunday morning 2 hours before the service.

As I couldn't make Friday rehearsal, I messaged my mate to see how it went and he told me that this week's bassist (a 16 yr old that is a talented multi-instrumentalist and a great kid) actually turned up without a bass 🙄...wtf did he think he was going to play?  I would've given him a mic and told him to sing basslines.

Referring back to the issue of over-committing and playing on my Sunday-off, the new Summer rota has just been issued and the most anyone will play in a row now is 2 weeks, after that you are guaranteed a Sunday off.  Life is good, God is great!

  14. @xgsjx I did message him to say that the medley was a great idea, that I wasn't going to be at rehearsal and that I didn't know 3 of the 5 songs but, it's still going ahead.

I'm not leading this week so I'm going to stand at the back and enjoy the sonic car crash as it unfolds.
