4. Hi guys and gals My next amp will be smaller and lighter, so this beast is on the market. I bought it from Richiewaz on this forum about a year ago - here's the original sale thread with pics: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...ace+Elliot+GP11 I've gigged it a few times and I must say I've been very happy. Only niggle as far as I am concerned is the lack of a speaker extension jack which came with later models. Price? a giveaway at £150.00. Can deliver around the North East of England Cheers Mick

 6. "Boogie on Reggae Woman" by Stevie Wonder opened my eyes - not a bass guitar, but an absolutely killer bass line.. M
 7.
have you tried cpr?
Copper Plated Roundwounds
 8.
I've had my Stentor Conservatoire for just under a year now and by and large I love it. It immediately felt like the right instrument for me, but the E string just isn't as loud as the other three. The A, D and G give a beautifully round, resonant tone, but I really have to fight the E string to get it to match the others. I imagine the problem can only really be diagnosed in person, but is this likely to be an issue with the string itself, or is it the going to be the bass and, if so, is it the sort of thing that can be adjusted away?
I have an Elysia - which I think is essentially the same bass - and whatever strings I've tried, the E has always been a little weaker than the rest. These basses are on the small side so I don't think it's too surprising..
 9. not bass related, but entertaining for sure.. http://www.boingboing.net/2009/08/01/bobby...rrin-hacks.html

 11. Yup.. bought today off richie, gigged this evening - very happy! LB
 12. Hi all I use a Hartke A70 kickback combo on small gigs/pit work etc. It has recently developed a sympathetic buzz/distortion on certain frequencies; pretty much any Db I play in any register causes the distortion. I've taken the speaker out and checked for anything obvious and tightened every screw on the cabinet I can find but I can't nail this problem. Anybody else had a similar issue? Cheers LB
 13.
Get a shave and you might do better.
14.
Grooving Bass player urgently required in the North East area for ecclectic new project. Gigs already waiting so get in touch ASAP for more details
PM'd you 11th May..
 15. His internal clock sounds OK to me.. I only detected the sort of normal "human" variances in feel and tempo you get in a live performance. We're so used to hearing music in the media that is produced with a computer's idea of time and tempo that natural time and internal feel can maybe sometimes seem a little uneven..
 16.
I love stuff like that, uk subs, cocksparrer, exploited etc
One of my first ever bass playing gigs was supporting the UK Subs in '78 at a place called the F Club in Leeds.. that was wild. My Dad (the sort of bloke who was still polishing his shoes every day) helped with bringing our band's gear (we were all hardly old enough to drive) and although that was crushingly uncool for me at the time, we couldn't have managed his support, and I wouldn't have got started with gigging bands..
 17. I can read and have done plenty of reading jobs in my time, but I much prefer to get "off the page" ASAP. Unless I know the music, I can't really "feel" it. I wouldn't expect to go to a theatre play and watch a load of actors reading their scripts!
 18. +1 for the bass fitness book. Also, Gary Willis has some great exercises for finger independence/strength in his "101 tips for bassists" - one of the best bass related books I ever bought.. LB
 19.
This was requested by one of my students, I thought I'd post it here for general consumption. Corrections, advice and comments are always welcome! Tom
Cheers Tom - I've just seen this tune on tonight's setlist (I'm doing a scratch wedding band gig) - it will make life that bit easier! Mick
 20. The Album "Burglar" by Freddie King from '74 has some great blues/funk - and it features Clapton on rhythm!
 21. I saw Ben Nicholls twice with Cara Dillon (married to Sam Lakeman I believe) - excellent player, pizz and arco, equally happy on electric..
 22. I found that when I started on 5 string -low b - it felt like I was transposing everything down a fourth, ie playing in D major "feels" like playing in G major - and since I also play 4 string and upright I still tend to adopt that transposing mindset. I do occasionally ask the guitarist what key we're in before a tune kicks off!
 23.
....Yes,I'd forgotten how good the band was;...Didn't know he'd[Fraser] had formal music training though...Cheers..
Neither did I until this thread made me curious, so I checked out his biog: "...until I was 12 or so, I learned the scales, and played Beethoven and Mozart like a parrot, with all the passion of a typist. It all seemed like extra homework at the time, but I have since come to appreciate all the theory that was drilled into me, and the understanding of how all music, all chords, all keys are related, and once I reached the stage where I found music a means for expression, having all that experience behind me, made things a lot easier.." (snipped from andyfraser.com) Isn't it wonderful what you can learn through basschat..
