  1. Zero. Out of the house, anyway. I don't gig. I only write and record, and I use the Hof copy strung A to C for twiddly bits and chords the Westone for basslines. Recently got a 6er which may replace both, we'll see ... So I use all of them. @CamdenRob I've been looking for fretless and recently noticed Thomann had a fretless contra in stock now; they don't seem to come up very often ... https://www.thomann.de/gb/marleaux_contra_5_fretless.htm ... just in case you wanted to sell your car or kidney or whatever 😊
  2. I know what you mean -- always check the serial number -- I found a bass I liked in a shop this year and I checkled before buying and found it was made in 2015 ... But what's a retailer to do? Very high-end models hang around for a long time before they find their soulmates ... and they also hang around in the European central warehouse for a while before being shipped out to retailers .... I didn't get a sense that date of manufacture was grounds for a discount on an unopened-boxed product ... although this particular brand is usually available for much less than retail list anyway ... The main question is even if it was a 2019 if you want to sell it later this year you're perhaps not in the realm of 50-60% new price but 70% for sure ... the depreciation kicks in the moment you walk out the door of the shop ... So in a way it doesn't really matter. A good backstory and good condition / no visible fretwear etc is more important than actual date when it comes to resale.
  3. Thanks for the cautionary tale. I was thinking of messing with one of the the truss rods on my 6er to relieve some mild buzzing at the 12th on the B and E strings, but I think I'll just pluck a bit lighter now I've read this ... :-) I haven't touched the truss rod on another one of my basses for 40 years, why start now?
  4. This thread is useful -- I've been considering getting a Precision as you have to have one once in your life right? But I am wondering if it will sound any different or better than my Thunder 1 ...
  5. While not instruction videos, I've been learning a lot recently form Nick Campbell, who plays in Pomplamoose -- just rock solid in the pocket nice basslines ... like: He also plays in scary pockets, who have also have Sam Wilkes on bass, who is just so enthusiastic and worth learning from, like here:
  6. I've had one of these for 39 years now, and for 25 of those years it was my only bass ... I had a Sadowsky for a while but couldn't tell the difference on recordings and so sold it and went back to the Westone. It's been on all 43 albums I've made and is a true friend. It has a passive mode which sounds great too. This example here is in unbelievably good condition, almost a collectors item but whomever buys it should not worry about that and just play the heck out of it ... GLWTS!
  7. I spent two years looking for the best bass in the world and I ended up with a JP2. There are simply fantastic, the best tone, best playability, rock solid, deep luscious ebony board, great electronics, well balanced, quite light considering, exquisitely made, etc etc. Grab this now as the new list price keeps creeping up ... (risen twice in the last 12 months) GLWS!
  8. So, now I'm intrigued with what Scott has planned -- what are these huge projects that need such complex managing? SBL is just about organising video shoots, setting up some merch products, keeping a website up to date ... it's hardly building the channel tunnel is it? A good PA could do that stuff without breaking a sweat. So there must be some massive marvellous scheme he has in mind for world domination ... What could it be? Answers below ...
  9. 1. Is this still available? 2. How do you adjust the truss rod? These TM6's usually have dual rods with access grooves in the top where the neck joins, sometimes with a same-wood cover plate, but I can't see anything here ...
