1. This is the only one I've used that has a piano: http://www.residentstudios.co.uk/
2. How about a pair of Mackie SRM450s or JBL EON15 G2s?
3.
Hi Stickman, Rick is a mate of mine, we worked together for 2 years and he left to do his own extended bass stuff, found gavin harrison on myspace and has done a great album called 'drop' check him out. he plays a crimson guitar.
Cool! Drop is certainly a great album. I like what I've heard of Rick's drumming too.
4.
I know of at least one Stick player on here - I think his forum name is Stickman, funnily enough.
Yep, I play a 10-string. Despite the forum name I've tended to have an on/off relationship with it over the years with time restraints meaning it take second place to my bass playing. It's always the tone that grabs me though. Although he's changed from Stick to ERB this guy is inspiring me a lot at the moment: 05Ric
5.
If you can deal with bass in Fifths, in reverse order, you should be playing a Chapman Stick. That's the part that tripped me up...
For a while I had the melody side of my Stick tuned to the Crafty tuning (all fifths except for the top two strings which were a minor third apart) á la Trey Gunn. Removed any last association the instrument had to a guitar or bass in my mind and led to some very angular melodies!
6. Does anyone have an email address for Bartolini? I've checked their website but it only shows postal address, phone and fax numbers... Thanks.
7. I used to run an SVP-Pro in to a Crest CA9 power amp in to an Epifani UL310 cab and it sounded incredible. I scaled down my rig and sold the SVP to coasterbass a while ago but still have the Crest for sale here.
8. Peter Gabriel: Long Walk Home (Rabbit Proof Fence) and Passion (Last Temptation of Christ).
9. Had a look around the internet following your suggestion and found a couple of possibles cases, a lot cheaper than I was expecting too. Now need to find somewhere stocking them so I can go check them out...
10.
Get out into the country, and check out any Game,Fishing,or Gun shops, they do soft cases to fit rod/weapon size. D0 you have a regular 10 or a grand 12?
Good idea. I wonder if they are very well padded though? I have a regular 10 string.
11. Thanks for the tips so far guys but I am definitely after a soft case/gig bag I can sling over my shoulder as I already have a hard case for it.
12. Does anyone know where I might get a custom gig bag made? Need one for my Chapman Stick and it really does work out too expensive to import a genuine one from the States...
13.
I shall be looking at something a bit lighter, which I'm sure you understand.
Of course, no problem.
14.
I'm looking for your recommendations for a power amp
Hi Jake, I currently have a Crest CA9 power amp for sale here.
15. Just found out the sad news that Dave Carpenter passed away yesterday: http://www.petererskine.com/whatsnew.htm
16.
Righto, off to ebay to search for cheap 2 channel power amps. I hear Crown and QSC are good. What should I look out for when considering bass-specific performance?
I have an excellent power amp for sale here.
17. Forgot to add that I'd consider a part trade for a lightweight 1x12 speaker cab.
18. I've been talking about it for a while and am now selling my Crest CA9 power amp. The CA9 is the power amp of choice for many US bassplayers and is apparently highly recommended by Jim Bergantino. Specs: * 8 Ohm Stereo - 600 W * 4 Ohm Stereo - 900 W * 2 Ohm Stereo - 1000 W * 8 Ohm Bridged - 1800 W * 4 Ohm Bridged - 2000 W More detailed information, including the manual, can be found here. Note, the one I am selling here has Speakon connectors and an external stereo/parallel/bridged-mono switch - other/earlier(?) models had binding posts and an internal switch that could only be accessed by opening up the amp. This amp is incredibly clean and punchy, I will definitely miss it - that amount of headroom available has been a dream - however it is just more weight than I wish to carry in my rack these days. Condition is very good, except for one of the rear rack ears which is slightly bent: * rack case not included £400 ono
19. Hi Jamie, I have a Crest CA9 I'm looking to sell. Until recently I had it paired with an SVP-Pro and it sounded great - only selling because I've gone the lightweight route.
20.
I thought the GWB2's were the fretted version?
Yes they were, and the colour is a transparent stain rather than the solid colour of the 35.
I had a GWB1 which originally cost £1499 (it was also the only one in the UK at the time!)
Ah yes, I remember enquiring about that one with the distributor at the time, ended up getting mine from the States.
21.
I can provide a glowing endorsement of the SVP Preamp this morning, having done my first two gigs with it over the weekend. Running straight to FOH it was absolutely awesome. It covered the subtle sections admirably (even without a compressor) and then tore the face off everything in the rockier stuff. It has the real growl of the SVT's that I love, and bit through two guitars, keyboards, synths, and the drummer. Never been happier with my live sound (apart from when I get my AB/Y switching sorted out and get my Eden Pre in there too!!)
Hey Nick, glad to hear you're happy with the SVP!
22. Hi Chris, I've got a Crest CA9 I'll be looking to get rid of very soon, will be looking for about £400 for it. Nottswarwick has already expressed an interest in it but I thought I'd give you a heads-up in case he doesn't go for it.
