I'm not sure if this will generate very much discussion. We've probably all had a great gig in a great venue with a great crowd and loved by the owners. However we we're never asked back. Why, is the big question. There could be tons of reasons. I don't book gigs or have contacts with venues so I'm somewhat at a loss in coming up with an answer. I tend to think some of it is poor follow up on the part of the band. Asking to rebook at the end of the gig would be tough for us. We have 2 band members with limited availability. Or maybe they did ask us back and we were already booked for that date and there was no follow up. I would think change in venue ownership or management might play a part in it. Over here in the States venue management change is the kiss of death. Could be the gig was turned down because the money wasn’t right. Thoughts or stories? Blue

A few years back Cream City Music had a huge Hofner Inventory and I blew the opportunity to buy one. I ended up with a German made Hofner Club Bass. Blue

Man, I'm loving that double cutaway bass. Blue

Dave, I think that "edge" comes from the active pre amp in my G&L ASAT Bass. Daryl

Thanks Blue

Thanks Dave, I'm always XRLed direct to the PA. I'm not sure what digital mains means. Jenny's husband Dave who does all our sound and light described them as digital. Daryl

Overall a good gig . However, initially unbearably cold ( 50°) and windy. When the wind died down it was tolerable. You can't tell from the video but we had an awesome crowd. We used our new digital mains. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid09zVbFaLXvdsnR7F5Cz3rtyGoEK7Z2tDpgMM3sBgxomBTxcSC17W9txgfrUVHvjaQl&id=1470144703&mibextid=Nif5oz https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02xk521A7V9AF4K2xkYgBx4wJo2XxHMktNjMXFnwRDLDTRVogGGcWPym3PAzzoUwkgl&id=1470144703&mibextid=Nif5oz Blue

I did the originals thing with several bands about 15 years ago. Both bands were good with good material. However, making money was tough. Blue

Agreed, Very astute comment. Playing music and gigging is important to me. However, at 70 years old I do wonder how long it will remain important. I'm already hearing comments from guys my age like " it's not it urgent". And I get that. And you'll probably see future posts from me going into the winter complaining about not having enough gigs. This should be one of the only hobbies where you can make money. I think we'd be considered a hobby band, however if there's no profit we'll decline. Blue

Once we get into the 2 hour drive one way our fee starts at $1,000.00. That's a deal for 3 hours with sound and lights. Blue

Covid definitely had a huge negative impact on most businesses. I'd hate to see that happen again. We never stopped playing. Even in the height of the Covid pandemic. We took the acoustic act and played outside of the local restaurants while customers waited for their " take out " meals. Good tips. Blue

I think the tragedy with living in areas or regions where there's no place to gig is some guys give up and stop playing Blue

I have a Gibson Gold TOP LP Bass. Big mistake. I can't handle the thick neck profile. And I can't find a local buyer. Blue

I've always wanted an Orange amp since the early 70s. When I recently tried to buy one, the sales guy looked at me and said; " If you're looking for the Orange you fell in love with back in the 70s, this ain't it . " Blue

I've yet to be sold on multiple effects devices. I'm still researching Kemper. Blue

I hate to say this and I don’t want to offend anyone. I've regretted any MIM Fender I've ever purchased. There were two, a reverse Jaguar bass and a Telecaster. Blue

Before I moved to WI in 1972, I grew up 10 minutes outside of NYC in a New Jersey suburb. After high school where you would play high school , church and YMCA dances there was nothing. I can't speak for London, but back in the early 70s there were little to no gigs in NYC for local bands. Blue

I'm fortunate. I just happen to live in an area where the gigging scene is thriving. I live about 20 minutes north of Milwaukee WI ( population 600k ). Milwaukee is known as the " City Of Festivals ". There are hundreds of festivals and fairs happening literally everyday. And there's still tons of bar gigs and now we have all these new Winery's and Brewerys that hire bands. Then add all the corporate events and private parties. Any good local band that aggressively pursues gigs can easily book 3 gig weekends. Some folks aren't as lucky. Folks that live in areas where the gigging opportunities are far and few in between. I have a few musician buddies that live in these areas. When I talk about festivals and fairs they really don't know what I'm talking about. Even the term " bar band" is foreign to them. I'm not sure there's much of a discussion here, the only solution is to move. And everybody can't get up and move on a whim. Thoughts? Blue

Interesting nobody ever calls on me to dep. However, if anyone does and it requires learning a lot of songs I guess I would do it for $200.00. I'd expect to be paid more than the other permanent band members. Blue
