  1. Agreed, love your analysis Daryl
  2. We use RCFs for our smaller profile acoustic gigs. No amps we're all DI. They are great ! Blue
  3. I'm a 60s/70s guy. I think bass guitar was much more prominent back then. I'm not sure younger folks understand the importance of bass. I get the same thing, they don't want bass in their monitors or I'm asked to move my monitor away from them. Most of the drummers I know that are over 65 get it and want to hear allot of bass. I've also heard from some punters I'm too low in the house mix. Blue
  4. 2nd gig this weekend. Another acoustic gig. It was a private 60th birthday party. I'm sure most of you have done these background gigs. About 100 people with allot little kids running around. What can I say, good hours 5:30-8:30 and good food especially the egg rolls. I got home at 9:00. Blue
  5. Looks like a great gig to me. Blue
  6. Bad gig. 7:30 to 10:30 Acoustic gig. We played the bar lounge in a bowling alley Not a good match. 20 somethings better suited for Kareoke or hip hop. They ignored us A guy walked up to me and asks " what time do you start". I said 7:30. He said "Ok, then we can play a few more rounds of darts ". We were set up behind the dart board. We won't re-book there. while it was a bad gig, I was happy with my playing.👍 Blue
  7. This gig is going to physically kick my butt. It looks like some kind of multi band event and we end up playing a bar from 9-12. I think we're providing sound and lights, and I'm wondering why, with that many corporate sponsors. It's up north in Plymouth at least an hour one way. I'm too old for this type of gig. This is a good gig for dmccombe7 . 😆 Seriously I thought we were done with these types of gigs. Blue
  8. Friday Night Acoustic Gig Blue "Hey West Bend! THIS Friday night! Live music on the patio at King Pin Bowl and Ale House! If the weather cooperates, bring your favorite chair! If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll play inside, so you won't need your favorite chair! Hope to see YOU! Special guest Kevin Henkel joining us on percussion." She's Right - I'm Left
  9. I'm still doing a few 3 hour shows. It's long. Blue
  10. Agreed, it's very hard. I'll go out and pick up $125.00 on a Thursday night, $200.00 Friday night and $150.00 on Saturday night. And if there's a nickel on the floor I'm picking that up too. Lol Blue
  11. I think being able to cover a mortgage and maintain a late model vehicle alone would be tough for most. Another question is what kind of gigs are we talking. With pub gigs I think it would be impossible. Bl I e
  12. I'll be able to pay my property taxes with gig money this year. Blue
  13. I think it's great. We did an outside acoustic gig and a van dropped off a dozen care residents. It was heart warming to watch how cool and appreciative they were. Blue
  14. I'd like to do some care home gigs. It just seems like it would be fun and I'm sure the residents are appreciative. And it's " giving back" to the community. I couldn't get my band members on board with it. I couldn't even get them to listen to the idea. They ignored me. Blue
  15. The guys I envy are the musicians that went to university for teaching. Teach for 25 years played in bands on the side . Then retire at age 50 with a generous teacher's pension then go out and gig full time. Blue
  16. I have a buddy that wants to start an oldies function band. He's retired and keeps stressing " I don't care about the money or if we get paid I just want to gig and play". If you don't care about the money your probably not going to get many gigs Blue
  17. It's tough , I'm retired with a pension. However, I still need my band income as a supplement to make ends meet. Daryl
  18. A new band would be tough. Most new bands are not together long enough to even see their first gig. Just finding 4 guys to fully commit to a band where your all on the same page is a challenge in itself. Getting into an established band with a years worth of solid bookings would be the safest bet. But finding that band and landing the gig would be tough. Blue
  19. It depends, there are so many variables. Your location, your age and what type of band your in and the market for live music. I won't get into the weeds with this . I'll tell you how it works in my neck of the woods. Even where I live where there is plenty of work for bands that know how to get it. You'd have to work your butt off playing 3- 4 times a week to make 12 grand a year. Blue
  20. Thanks Dave I saw a short video clip on Facebook and I was ok, I didn't look like a " goof ball" or anything No active G&L. I played my 2000 MIJ Fender 1951 P reissue. Daryl
  21. Sounds like a lot of work. That stuff with your guitarist that had to move his car really ticks me off. It's like, " What can we do to make things difficult for the band" Blue
  22. Yes, I understand there are good young bands playing traditional rock genres. It's just not as easy to find as it use to be. Blue
  23. Looks beautiful. Interesting, regarding young musicians. It saddens me to say I have not been impressed with the young musicians in my neck of the woods. No bands really. Most of what I see are marginal acoustic solo and duo acts. So I wonder what will happen with actual rock bands, what's the future. Most guys my age (70) around here are starting to throw in the towel. Blue
  24. Thanks, but I don't really do anything except tricking people into thinking I'm better than I actually am. 😅 lol Blue
