  1. I've heard the Harley Benton knock offs are great. $149.00 Blue
  2. Sly & The Family Stone December 10th, 1969 Madison Square Garden. Band Of Gypsys, 1969 NYE Filmore East NYC. Blue
  3. I've known Al since I was in grammar school (early 1960s). He lived across the street from me. Blue
  4. Was Al Anderson with them at that time? Blue
  5. I don't think I asked if the ad was good. I asked for people's thoughts on the ad and this type of opportunity. Blue
  6. Agreed, While I enjoy playing music I'm not sure I'm a "hang out" type of guy at this point in my life. Blue
  7. The ad is perfect. And if a guy wants to rehearse weekly for 5 gigs that's fine to. A few guys in this discussion have indicated this would be a good opportunity for them. I admit, I don't get the whole social aspect of rehearsal. I would have no interest in this type of opportunity not because they only want to play 5 gigs, because of their requirements. Blue
  8. I've never done that, I guess it depends on the band and the type of gig. If reading is required I wouldn't be able to do it. If it was a 4 hour bar gig I'd also be in trouble. The only way I could cut showing up for a gig with no prior rehearsal would be if it was a headliner show playing a little over an hours worth of material. Blue
  9. Hi Pete, Initially once a week would be fine. After I have all the material down maybe one rehearsal before each gig. Blue
  10. Would 2 rehearsals per week for 5 gigs be acceptable? Blue
  11. I'm obsessed with their requirements not gigs. Blue
  12. That's what I call packed. Blue
  13. In my neck of the woods if an established band, all in tact that's making money places a bass player wanted ad publicly, good luck getting an audition slot. 😢 Blue
  14. Here's another heads up. You respond to the ad because the musianship in their clips seemed very high. I responded to an ad based on what appeared to be a " smokin" guitarist. Then found out he was no longer in the band.. Blue
  15. I love the ads that cut to the chase; "If your looking for money, this ain't it"😁 Blue
  16. Dave, I agree 100%. I have responded to ads in the past where a lot of crucial information was left out. Classic example, the ad is for a bass player then you find out they are also looking for drums & vocalist. You find out it's a remaining member trying to save a sinking ship. Blue
  17. Interesting point. Guys, how much rehearsal is reasonable for a 5 gig a year band? Blue
  18. The ad is not wrong. I don't like the requirements, I personally think they're asking too much. But that's just me. If they were to take out the requirements they might get the wrong guy. I get that, however it doesn't mean I have to like their proposition. Blue
  19. It's an honest ad. It's a fit for certain guys. I still take issue with the requirements. Blue
  20. In a band that plays 60 gigs annually, no. A band that does 5 shows none of the points would bother me. I could even live with the guy that comes to a rehearsal unprepared. He still has plenty of time to nail the material before the next gig. Blue
  21. My favorite gig was not one if the big stage, big festival gigs. It was a small NYE bar gig. Great sounding room and it was the crowd that made it so special. Lots of other local known musicians in attendance and hard core live rock lovers. Mostly folks over 60. Blue
  22. I think most do, and most have full time traditional jobs and families as well. I'm the odd ball. Blue
  23. I'm single, retired and all the free time in the world. No hobbies outside of gigging. Blue
  24. I think you get in trouble if you start believing and taking all the compliments on your playing from non- musician punters the wrong way. Blue
