  1. Jazz and stuff is cool, I take the high road in terms of comments and opinions. That should be clear in my posts and threads. I got to a certain age, 64 and realized I'm a rock & roll guy. I'm a B list working local bar band guy. It's simple, I like having fun. Blue
  2. Another tid bit. Paul McCartney has had 2 post Beatle careers, Wings & Solo. Neither have been mentioned. And for good reason. Blue
  3. Cool, our age is probably the most significant factor in terms of what might define "your band". I'm 64, no way could for example RHCP be "my band". Blue
  4. I haven't stepped boldly anywhere except for the front of the line at my local Chinese Buffet. Blue
  5. I wish you would have shared your age. For this thread I wish everyone would share their age. I'm going to guess your over 60. Blue
  6. I don't listen to them either. Who listens to terrestrial radio stations? Anyone with a device can access as much Greatful Dead, Beatles or the ephenera as they want and anytime they want. If I wanted to listen to Revolver right this second I could. Mr. You Had To Be There aka Blue
  7. The thing is, The Beatles are bigger than their fan base. Again, we're talking about The Beatles. They are not going anywhere. Blue
  8. I've never listened to John Coltrane, but I watched the Documentary on Netflix. I'm sold that he was brilliant and a very special man. Blue
  9. Great thread, I like all these comments. Funny, there's no bigger Beatles than me and I've never given much thought to Ringo's drumming. I'm a Beatles fan. Blue
  10. Big difference between not liking and not understanding historical or musical value. I'm not a Jaco fan. I don't even listen to him. But I sure as hell understand and love what he did for the electric bass.. It's a big picture thing for me, it's never about what I like or don't like. Blue
  11. Wow, age has so much to do with influences. There are bands mentioned from the 60s through the early 2000s. Blue
  12. Well Yeastie said it was Rush that got him playing bass. And it was Paul McCartney that got me started on playing bass. There's not too much of a impact higher than the decision to start playing an instrument.. Blue
  13. In terms of my playing I've been influenced by a lot of bass players. But it all started with Paul McCartney for me. Them too for that matter. Blue
  14. On point, I think this is a good example of what the OP is getting at. Blue
  15. First Gig, 1966, grade school talent show. Bass, guitar, ouano and drums. We played 2 songs, Cleo's Back & Function At The Junction I remember having a blast. Blue
  16. Massive effect and impact may or may not be the same. However you make a good point to a degree. I remember being under the age if 4 sitting in my high chair in our kitchen below the age of 4. My Mom would always have the local Black Music radio station on. I clearly remember enjoying hearing Ray Charles singing "Hit The Road Jack". I'm still awarding The Beatles as my band. Blue
  17. Certainly not the type of effect for impact I was talking about. And I don't see a "band" anywhere in the video. All I see is a child with some sort of apptitude/abilty for hearing and recognizing chords. Blue
  18. I do think age has an impact on us. Not many have stated how old they were when " their band" touched their souls. For example someone mentioned Nirvana. I was certainly around when they came out. But I was an adult, married with 2 young children. No band was going to really touch my soul at that point in my life. I was 10 when The Beatles became "my band". Every move they made seemed relevant to me. Blue
  19. I don't think any band would have had any inpact on me as a 4 year old. Blue
  20. And Meet The Beatles and Something New we're probably my onlyy Beatles records. But I was never necessarily a Beatles records fanatic. I was and still am a Beatles fanatic. Huge difference Blue
  21. The thing about The Beatles, you don't have to listen to them or like them. They're still going to be The Beatles. Blue
  22. Usually it's the band that really hit you when you became of age. Coming of age in 1964 can sort of speak for itself. However you had to have some help. At age 10 my Dad purchased The Beatles Meet The Beatles and Something New. He also bought Manfred Man's album Do Wah Diddy for me. Some people come from homes where art in general and music were non-existent. I've heard people my age say, "I don't really listen to much music". To me that's like saying " I really don't breathe much' It's certainly nothing to brag about. Blue
