  1. Ha ha bit of both I've done it so the all the sizes of the fretboard etc are the correct size and the centre line you can see is 34" so I can check the position of the bridge/pickup are accurate but it might end up being a 5er not sure at the moment Hopefully when I print the body off it will look better this time?..... 👍🏻
  2. Had a bit of a play on inkscape and heres a actual to scale pic so I think the dimensions are looking better?.........👍🏻
  3. Putting this build on hold at the moment as I cant get the dimensions to look right! Need to spend a bit of time on Inkscape I think!!....👍🏻
  4. Not been able to do much on this because my paid work is getting in the way! But I've decided its going to be Matt Black with Red pickguard with matching headstock, getting the paint on monday so hopefully I'll be able to get on with it next week!?!... 👍🏻
  5. I kind of wanted to keep it a bit of a traditional Jag bass style But I'm now thinking what about Black with solid Red pickguard (not pearloid or 🤮 tort!!).......👍🏻
  6. If I go grey it will be this kind of colour (matte metallic) ..... 👍🏻
  7. Heres a quick mock up before I start painting the body..... I need some opinions on the colour I'm torn between Black with either White or Black pickguard or Gunmetal Grey with either White or Black pickguard?..... 👍🏻
  8. Well they do say idle hands and all that!! 😁
  9. I decided to make a jag bass as I've always liked them but never got round to building one The body is going to be Satin Black with a White (maybe Black?) one piece Mark Hoppus style pickguard, I haven't decided if its going to be a one volume knob or tone and volume? The body is made out of a reclaimed scaffold board that I've sanded and filled The neck is a tinted Maple/Maple with Black block, binding and matching headstock , Chrome hardware, will probably end up looking very similar to this one...... 👍🏻
  10. I think I might make the cutaway at the bridge smaller and still try and inset a tailpiece (for no other reason that I think it would look good!?!) and bring the neck back a little bit more? I'll have a play about with it to see how it looks tomorrow when I go back to work...... 👍🏻
  11. I get what you mean now! It's a CG Lutherie bass Yeah thats kinda what I'm thinking of doing, but I don't know if it would be better doing the tailpiece as a metal insert or just rout out a keyhole in the body itself?? @Andyjr1515 I wanted to use a 2 piece bridge as I've never done a bass with that style bridge and I really like the way the strings are held in place on the pic I posted earlier and I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do it??..... 👍🏻
  12. I'm thinking I could use something like the string holder piece only inset in the body with just a saddle block on top??
  13. Its 34" I don't like short scale I was considering stretching the body but just from an aesthetic point of view I don't think it would look right? I planned it so the bridge would sit as far back as I could get it as my inspiration came from this... Which I suppose I could still do and just have the saddle part and not the tailpiece?...... 👍🏻
  14. I thought before I buy the timber for this I'll do a bit of a test body to see how its going to work, its just going to be Redwood back with some left over Oak on top I had kicking about, I'm going to try and ceruse the top black with white grain filler instead this time? You never know if it looks good I might just keep it that way?? On paper imo it looked really good but I'm not so sure now its kinda in the flesh, and I can't use a tune o'matic bridge like I planned because it brings the neck out way too far so it didn't look right, back to a standard bridge?...👍🏻
  15. Hopefully it will look good! I'm gonna try and put a MM in a ramp style pickup cover but I'm hoping to cut the square out of the top and then use it as the top of the pickup/ramp cover so the grain all matches bit like this..... 👍🏻
  16. I'm thinking something like this for the top..... But I don't know what wood for the back maybe Ash with a ebony demarcation line??..... 👍🏻
  17. I've been thinking about doing a single cut bolt on neck since seeing @Andyjr1515 build Heres what I've come up with so far....... Not sure on the body wood yet I really want to do a Black Limba top but we'll have to see if funds will permit me......... 👍🏻
  18. I decided to keep the maple fretboard but the neck has been painted Satin Black and its going to have block inlays aswell Next job is the control cavity........ 👍🏻
  19. Looking good!! Gonna be a nice sized workshop!...... 👍🏻
  20. I finished doing the contouring and gave it a quick wipe of danish oil to see how much sanding I've missed........ 👍🏻
  21. Thats the great thing about making your own basses (I'm using the plural because once you've got the bug you will definitely make more! I'm on about build 8 or 9! 😁) you can change things and let them evolve! And love the spalted top btw!!...... 👍🏻
  22. I forgot to add this matching headstock bass....... 👍🏻
  23. I'm preferring the new design it's going to be a nice bass when finished! I agree with Mick you'll really struggle to come up with a completely unique design, I just take aspects of other basses I like and kind of mix and match them till I'm happy with the design...... 👍🏻
  24. Got some more contouring and routing done today! Still lots more sanding to be done!!......👍🏻
