That's a really striking sparkly finish - lovely! And the neck looks great. It's definitely one of the best things about Sire basses (along with the price!) I've had 3 Sires. A first gen V7 (really nice except for the tuner that fell to bits), a D5 that has the best feeling neck I've ever had and a U5 which had to go back because the fret edges were so poor. I still have the D5 - it's a lovely thing to play.

Love it. If ever you are considering selling or trading it .......

I've got decent active EQ on the bass and on my pedal board but I didn't really do much tweeking. It sounded remarkably good.

For giggles, I took my wee Marshall guitar head along to and rehearsal tonight and plugged it into my Ashdown 4x10 and used it as a rehearsal rig. Instant valve warmth goodness on the clean channel and loud enough for the rehearsal room. I could probably gig this with PA support. On the dirty channel it was just insane (in a kinda good way). Certainly made me want to get a proper valve amp again.

Sorry John I don't know - it came with the bass. It's not the best fit though. I've previously had pickguards made using the original as a template by Jack's Instruments in Manchester. Did a really good job. Not sure if he still does it though.

Pending a new family photo, here are the latest additions. A 2022 Fender Player Plus (white) and a 2021 Fender Player (black). The black one has an aftermarket pickguard and the hi mass bridge.

Bought a bass from Thomann a few weeks back. Price quoted in was price paid. As it happened I had to return it. That was not without some logistical issues but that is a different story.

Now that was a real bargain! I tried a fretless Wal in 1989 - it was £999 but I couldn't play fretless so didn't go for it. Bought my Washburn Status instead (which I still have).

Does anyone GAS after basses that they wish they had bought but didn't. I've found myself wanting the Reverend Mercali that Merchant City Music had for a while a few years back. I wonder where it is now?
-
Yep. I think they've made some mistakes with these. They should have stuck with maple boards and should have a passive tone (like Sire do). On the plus side, it does mean it is quite different from a Player series P-bass. I've noticed it's also slightly heavy although I am comparing it to my Overwater (swamp ash) and my Aerodyne Jazz.

Better pic showing the colour now I have the plastic off the pickguard. Also added a Hipshot that I had lying around.

Ok I managed to get it plugged into my practice rig. A few observations: 1. In passive mode, there is no tone control. This means it cannot do classic P-bass or J-bass tones with the treble rolled off. 2. The active preamp is powerful - with everything centred it is much louder than in passive mode. The frequencies seem pretty good but it took me a while to dial in a useable tone without overloading my amp. I need to check if there is an output adjustment on the preamp 3. The bass sounds good in both active and passive modes. Good clear PJ tones, nice middle P pickup and honky J pickup BUT you cannot roll the treble off. This could be a major issue for some folk. 4. The neck is surprisingly comfortable, fast and easy to play. I was wary at first but it has grown on me.

Colour is lovely. It is pearlescent which you can't really see in photos. Matched with the tort guard it looks class. Mine has a small blemish on the back but not enough that I'll be sending it back. I wish they would just use maple fingerboards though - Pau Ferro is not aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. I'm also a bit puzzled as to their choice of 12" radius for the board - it is very flat compared to any bass I've ever played before. Still haven't been able to plug it in so can't comment on sound yet.
-
Mine arrived tonight..... Really nice finish, smooth neck but the Pao Fero board looks like milk chocolate and the 12" radius will take a bit of getting used to. Haven't plugged it in yet (can't get near my amps).

Almost certainly unaware. This bass is nearly 20 years old - probably been through many owners and mods get lost in the mists of time.

The jazz pickup has also been replaced with a Wizard '84'.

Used my Aerodyne Jazz on a gig at the weekend and I noticed my D and G strings were very quiet so I decided to take a look at wiring. Found a loose wire and that the P pickup has been replaced at some point with a Wizard 'Thumper'. Anybody ever heard of these?

That is a lovely looking MIM jazz. But I've got an Aerodyne Jazz and that does me.....
-
Latest iteration I had to switch things around to fit on the wireless receiver. I'm thinking of replacing the Bass Compactor with something smaller and I could lose the tuner as the DP-3x has a tuner built in.

I finally got hold of an Aerodyne off a fellow Basschatter. Played a couple off gigs with it and I quite like it but it won't replace my Overwater.
