I prefer Geddy's Rickenbacker sound to the subsequent ones; the Wal & Steinbergers were OK for the jackets with rolled-up sleeves phase, but I'll take the Ric, thanks.

For me, you can get the Jazz to sound similar to a Ric on certain parts of the neck, but I prefer the colour the Ric paints as you move around the neck. I also don't like the look of a Jazz so much, with its blobby bottom.

Moving Pictures is their best album, IMHO, with Clockwork Angels probably second.

you know i have never played owned or even picked up a Ric and never even considered one, maybe i am missing something (not the cost of one tough) i love my Jazz and geddy played Jazz basses since late 70s early 80s anyway.

  2. i always run my basses into active input, some are active basses with active on of switches, plus i nearly always have some pedals running into the amp, Helix stomp currency always on with minimum of a light compression. I just fine it easier than switching between active and passive and when switching basses, just just increase the volume on passive bass or reduce when switching to active and use master amp volume if required. That suits me best and i think you get a more consistent cleaner sound ( clean as in smooth controllable). if you have a active passive on of switch that usually -10db then just use that but separate inputs a always go into the active input.

Yes, that does sound useful - my band's talking about doing some QoSA, so a drop tuning would be very handy!

drop C# even for QOSA just above stings rattling loose.

Yes, sorry, its dropping everything (or raising everything) by as many semi tones as you like. Not just dropping the e string.

I use it for when I need to play using that low open D. Works great. No pfaffing about changing basses or tuning. Just a click of a switch and off we go.

create a patch and put it on here for downloading onto Helix. sounds good.

These patches both use the following switches:

FS1 - for the amp drive

    FS2 - KWB drive

FS3 - Mid EQ & High EQ boost

These amp models don't have cabs, add them in if you need them. You will need to dial all these blocks in to your own tastes. There is a parallel flanger in the preset too, if you use an external switch like I do, you can activate it there.

like the first one, nice fat warm drive, good base  for running a bit more grit into, don't know of that's the vibe you were going for.

  6. Just spent 2 hours on the Guitar into my Marshall combo, some great guitar effects too, won't use the amp music dels on Gguitsr, but why would I with a Marshall full tube amp, but the Boss DS-1 model is great, as are all the boss blocks, tubescreamer great, and a few gems from more boutique obscure pedals.

love the Fuzz blocks on guitar and bass some great stuff. Of course it will be used 80%+ for bass. Also be good for Di I got my acoustic if I ever need to for recording etc.

    don't tell me that!

I liked my B3n, they are very good,  but yeah it's miles better, but for 3 times the price it wants to be. The transparency if the key it adds to the natural bass tone were as the zoom just takes it all away.

  8. Happy with the stomp so far, sound quality light years ahead of my Zoom B3n whuch was not bad to start with, the true by pass and transparency is great can still get all the natural tone from my bass, which is exactly what i wanted.

just set up around half a dozen presets with different amp sims and tried a few distortions  and Fuzz blocks as that plopped will be used most. Some if the non bass distortions work very well on bass too, the Tube screamer sounds great, it sounded crap on the zoom.

love the Galien Krueger amp the mesa channel 1 and the pearce channel 1&2 Darkgkass is good aswell

Yup try that. The app needs to be connected to your stomp in order for it to load properly.

Got it going now, but wanted to learn how to do it on device first in case have to adjust on the fly.

Helix edit is the one. Do you have your stomp connected to the pc via USB?

not at the moment, guess it will only work when connected, i assume just connect via the cable and it will just start up.

  11. well finally got my heels stomp today. lots to get through to scratch the surface just to even get it up and running.

been looking on line 6 website and don't seem to be able to find any sort of editing tool for editing the stomp on a computer, is this correct is there nothing, i did find some thing called helix edit and firmware updater but nothing seems to happen when i open them.

    any advise please

If you just want a bit of grit it might be worth just checking out some of amp and cab sims on their own.

    The SVT is pretty growly.

If you want more then there's plenty of options available,  from a  tube screamer type boost to the heaviest full on distortion.

is the tubscreamer good on bass? i will use the SVT sims a bit, but my Transtube Swithc on my Peavey amp does that pretty well. Looking forward to using the Pearce preamp as well.

  13. anybody got a list of the full effects, pre amps, amp models, Bass specific, just ordered a stomp model, and wondered what was available.

also is the device fully by passable when no effects are in use, i had a Zoom B3n and although that was quite good it was not fully by passable or transparent and sucked all the natural bass tone away. I am hoping the Helix adds to the natural flavor.

There was a short lived thread on this pedal 18 months ago, and I didn't get any bites when I asked last year how people were finding them. I like the concept of it, and would like to give it a try as part of the never ending quest for the perfect OD. Glad it's working out for you!

Are we not all looking, maybe its a mythical relic that does not really exist and its an endless quest. this seems like the one, for now anyway. I did have an MXR m80 bass di and overdrive. the overdrive was very nice but as soon as it kicked in even with gain all the way down, its sucked out all the bass tone, you had to have the blend right down to well below 12pm otherwise the bass all went. this does not do that but you can still get face ripping overdrive on higher settings ans still not lose much bass tone.

I hopefully will stick with this but then you see something else and think ooh thats worth a try.

  16. KHDK Abyss overdrive pedal.

Had my eye on one of these for a while now, really fancied an Xotic bass BB but just too expensive and only really does one thing.

Think I have made the right decision with this, two channels low (mildrr overdrive) hi (out n out distortion) you can get anything from slight tubey boost with a bit of grit to some really nice smooth warm grit, all the way to some complete ripping distortion.

There is no blend but separate volume control for clean and dirt, which takes a short while to get your head around  but works really really well. Found it best to set the clean to line level, then just bring in the dirt to the level Satuartion I want, once you have that level then the gain is just more you want or less you want and then get no loss of low end. Really liking this, and it goes into my Tech 21 VT really well on a mild/clean setting or with just the eq on. You only really need the treble if saturating the dirt channel and been to lose some highs, other wise just left it at like 11 or 12 pm

anybody else got one any other fans

  17. Electro Harmonix Hotwax dual overdrive pedal. Hot tubes side nice tubey drive and warmer overdrive, Crayon side more gritty  distortion, combine both in sequence fir a real dirty overdrive. Two ban boost cut eq and blend knob makes if perfect for Bass or guitar. Both channels go from full range transparent clean boost to full overdrives.

Can include postage to mainland uk in price. Or less meet up local mid Yorks.
