  1. You're going to have to play some thin notes to get them through that narrow slat!! I saw one of those combos in a music store here in Toronto many years ago. I always thought that it looked a bit odd. Enjoy your new toy.
  2. Your amp is rated at 500W not 50. You just proved my point, thank you.
  3. In my mind a 50W bass amp is a toy, practice amp at best. I haven't used that little power in decades! I see nothing sexy about it.
  4. Now we know what has been causing all the Earthquakes in Alberta!!
  5. Just as a comment: I am surprised how many people don't understand a bass with more than four strings. To me it just gives me more choices in finger positions. I did have three six string basses but on learning that my nephew plays bass, he's at Oxford, I sent him my newest six. He loves it. I now have just my original fretted six in white and my natural Koa wood fretless. I found that the standard J size pickups installed on the bass were a bit weak on the outer two strings so I replaced them all with EMG soap bars. That solved the problem. When I ordered the fretless that vast expanse of Ebony called a fingerboard scared me a bit so I had fret lines installed. The whole instrument is a dream to play!
  6. B E A D G C is the tuning. And trust me they are all BASS!!
  7. Forty years ago, when I was forty, I bought a Streamer as I too fell in love with the Warwick sound. When I bought my six stringed instruments it was consigned to the instrument cupboard. I recently gave it to one of my doctors as I no longer had a use for it.
  8. I had a pedal board with a bunch of effects on it. I realized that for my style of music none of them were needed or even useful. I packed them all up and one of the brothers who was visiting delivered them to my nephew studying at Oxford. I sent him my newest Carvin six string fretted bass that I didn't get on with. It's a wonderful instrument complete with retrofitted EMG pickups, as are all my sixes, and a bridge with Piezo saddles. My nephew loves it!
  9. I pretty much missed the Trace Elliot fanfare. We moved over to Toronto in 1973 which IIRC was when they started hitting the shops. I did buy a blown Trace amp via Ebay, repaired it and was unimpressed by the build quality and very poor cooling path design. No wonder it blew!
  10. @AlanG Just a note to thank you for your service!
  11. They are very similar to a five string and are fun to play once you get used to them. My fretless version is a dream to play and is my goto instrument.
  12. If I may point out that the physical position of the volume control has no bearing on the power the amp id putting out. It may well be producing its maximum output at 2 on the scale. All depends on how hot the input signal is.
  13. I like tubes. When I went to Engineer School they were current technology. If I had a choice I would still be using full tube amps. BUT age crept up on me and my tube amps just got to be unmanageable. Something had ti give. The route I followed was a 2KW capable class D Stereo power amp to drive my Acme Sound B2 2x10 three way cabinets. I usually use two in a vertical skinny stack at 4Ω per channel. If I want more I can run all four for 2Ω per channel. I designed and built a two channel tube pre-amp to drive the power amp and the whole system sounds very good.
  14. Good point IF the venue actually HAS a PA system and a competent sound man to run it. Over here such luxurties are few and far between!
  15. @Scot 999 The OP hasn't been back since the day he joined up so I guess nothing we say is of interest to him. Sad that!
  16. Ah but! .... can it handle a six string?
  17. Just for interest how did the board in your amp get damaged?
  18. In my mind a player should buy transportation that will carry his/her musical equipment. You are doing things backward!
  19. Hello @Scott 999 - is anybody out there?
  20. What you have done is pass all the love stored by this speaker cabinet on to a new player. Hopefully he/she will rise to that history and make you proud.
  21. OK You've had more than a day - what news?
  22. Bill, If you did drive that fast the New Hampshire cops would be on you pretty quick I think.
  23. Hmmm... I didn't know I was complaining! LOL
  24. Just as a thought: does the amp have an Effects Loop? If it does then try linking the Send and Return jacks with a signal cable. The normalizing contacts on these jacks are notorious for corrosion because they are not used that often. When this happens they fail to pass a signal through the loop.
  25. Thy a different speaker cable would be the first step. A speaker cabinet can be easily checked for operation by using a jack cable into the cabinet and touching the terminals of a 9V battery across the other end. Should produce a hearty thump from the speakers.
