  1. Docktor Docktor (UFO)
  2. What does 'Wild Dog' sound like?
  3. Cue the GAS for a six string. Mind you, that might look a little OTT!
  4. Lots of good points have already been made. On the practical side, my experience of playing electric bass in a big band is you may be given a very tight spot to play in where inevitably you can't hear yourself that well (albeit that anyone over 6 ft away might be able to hear you a lot better). An ability to tip your amp up is good, or lift it off the floor on a milk crate. Some small combos (Hartke?) are designed to do that . However, floors (and walls) are also really good sound reinforcers. Staging can be good or bad at reinforcing sound (depending on what you are trying to achieve in the room). I have played a little Phil Jones combo which would be good with upright as well, as well as a 1/10 Markbass combo (louder). the key with both is they are quick to set up and don't take a lot of space.
  5. Thanks for the tip. Got myself a copy and as an Ealing boy, I've finally figured out where he lived until his Lord of the Manor days.
  6. I loved that, but isn't it one of the most boring bass lines to play in the world?
  7. Obscure one from Ian Dury/Norman: My old man...one of the first songs I learned. Oh, and Millionaire's Waltz by Queen/JD
  8. Beautiful bass...not making them any more. I just mortgaged my kidney for a Wal 5er, otherwise I would snap this up.GLWS!
  9. If it helps get this over the line I am in for two sets
  10. Bookend!
  11. Ask Jaco (oh you can't). Didn't he replace the stack knobs in the Bass of Doom with vvt, because they sounded louder?
  12. So as not to be thick about this....are these going to be the kind of 'rubbery' straplocks like these? If so, I'm in!
  13. These are scarily 3 of the last 4 tracks I have learnt. Try adding Walk between the raindrops for a slightly unpredictable walking line. Has anyone got any tips on how to make learning Deacon Blue a bit more interesting? Did Walter Becker just compose the lines session players would find too boring? Or am I being sacrilegious about Steely Dan?
  14. https://www.andybaxterbass.com/collections/fender-jazz-bass/products/1960-fender-jazz-bass-sunburst A good comparison from Andy Baxter's site. Meanwhile the item in question appears to be about to be sold!
  15. Who could ever have buyer's remorse about this bass? Does not compute. GLWT (second)S
  16. I took photos of Judie Tzuke and Rhino with his Alembic in about 1983, and then saw him about 30 years later with a Status and Quo (if you see what I mean) at the O2. I guess you would have to call him a versatile player 😃
  17. That was before he discovered his inner 'Quo' then?
  18. Jaco (again) on Joni Mitchell Shadows and Light, as well as Pat Methingy and Lyle Mays and the rest of an incredibly talented band
  19. I have to say, the one in the photo doesn't quite look the same as everyone elses! Mine looks like this: And I concur with everything that's been said about them. Great with passive classic fenders. I had to wait three months for mine and they are nose-bleed expensive, but Jack, the guy behind Noble is fantastic to deal with.
  20. Funeral Party.....the Cure 😁
  21. They are usually the initials of the quality controllers aren't they? Otherwise it could also be Musicman Sabre Bass (or did they use the same neck anyway?)
  22. Could you enlighten us what MSB means?
  23. Having had two Powerhouse 2*10's and a Trace top for ever, I have taken my osteopath's advice and now am the proud owner of 2*10 and 1*10 Barefaced Cabs (plus a Mesa Boogie 800+, plus a Noble valve pre-amp). I've yet to really push the Barefaced speakers (post lockdown), but am really looking forward to it. The post sales advice/support from Barefaced seems to be everything it is described on this website.....and they're a local company to boot. I am dead chuffed I made the move.
  24. I suspect Transferwise is more cost effective for both sides than Paypal. There is typically a small fee, but the exchange rate quoted is pretty good, and you can request you receive a fixed amount of Sterling in your bank account (i.e. the purchaser has the exchange rate risk and given where the value of Sterling is at the minute, i guess most European bass players are eager purchasers!). If you enter your Sterling Bank Account details in Transferwise you just have to give your purchaser your e-mail address.
