  2. thanks all, got my answers, mods can close topic BC still a GREAT forum!
  3. Morning all, sorry for the delay, was playing the whole weekend. Thank you for all your thoughts and info. It is completely my fault for not taking enough time and thinking clearly when doing the trade, there's a reason behind it but it's a personal circumstance that has nothing to do with this. So facts... it was a custom build, but still there's a bit of weirdness... it turns out the pickup maker did not know his product would end up in a 5 string bass. Why would the luthier of the bass knowingly install something that is not going to do the job?? Because of the exact wish of the customer? Even though it will mean there will be a disfunctional bass out there representing that luthier? Why would an obvious problem be ignored by the luthier? Why would the customer knowingly order this kind of a tool if they were told in advance that it would not work? If it was all just a test, why wasn't it addressed when it was clear it doesn't work? Feels like someone's not telling the truth... Last but not least... why would you drop this kind of a problem onto a fellow bassist? I always had great experience here, had to go the other way some time i guess... I now know there's no claim option, so i'll go down the honest, open, diplomatic, way for now with the builder and see where it goes.. Don't feel like shaming and blaming, it is what it is, everyone played their part and that's it... I like the bass and i think it will sound great once it's put right. Let's see what are the options. Thanks all for clearing up the legal aspect.
  4. it was a private trade. so i have no right even though it's a "hidden deffect"? My claim would be with the maker of the bass as it seems they installed a PU that shouldn't be there. The bass is perfectly balanced acoustically, but not when plugged in, the B and G have a massive drop in volume.
  5. Can anybody help with this... i'm in Belgium and would like to know what are my options in claiming warranty for a second hand bass (made in UK) that obviously has a production error. I believe EU law covers warranty in this case ("If you buy a second-hand item, the seller usually limits the guarantee to the legal minimum of one year. If he does not do this, you are entitled to a two-year guarantee in accordance with the law.") What is the situation in UK regarding warranty on second hand products? The bass was made in 2024. BACKSTORY: i got a bass in a trade. I noticed a problem with the sound/volume balance when trying it out but i thought it could be solved with a setup or string change. The previous owner played with a compressor so according to him didn't notice the problem. I contacted the maker (UK) and was redirected to the PU maker (UK). Had new blades installed, didn't help, as it turns out the pickups used are too small. Weren't supposed to go on a 5 string bass at all according to the PU maker. Don't know how to approach the maker now. I like the bass and would love to have the problem sorted. And I don't want to drop the bass off to another sucker. Suggestions? Thanks
  6. I’ve been through various pickups and mics and am now super happy with Neumann MCM114 on a MC4 clip. Very honest representation of the sound i’m getting from the instrument. Usually needs just a tiny bit of tweaking depending on the acoustics of the room. Been running it into an amp or straight to house. Not cheap, but def worth it.
  7. it has a certain charm with the Pyramid black nylon strings, and the bridge makes the G string sound just a bit different than the others which gives it another layer of weirdness that i enjoy. what brand of biscuits did you have in mind?
  8. it's a Eko neck on a Hagstrom body, that explains the extra space in the socket. The switches do a bunch of things i don't understand as i don't really care but i do enjoy 2 positions very much
  9. got this general disaster in a trade for some pedals i wasn’t using and it turned out to be a beauty! the neck is too narrow, the electronics are a mess, the bridge is a joke, but i love how it feels, sounds and it’s super inspiring every time i pick it up… i love the other basses in the house as well, but never expected this to become such a thing, i guess you never can tell…
  10. this like i do very much, but price adjust you must.. Yoda
  11. Sure, i believe they're starting at around 1500 EUR (VAT included), depending on model and options. Just email Karel (he's the man behind this operation, making everything except the tuners by himself), he's a very kind gent, he'll give you a quote.
  12. chambered, that explains the weight..
  13. some details, if anyone wants to know
  14. … what can i say, i’m in love..
  15. Rabbie, what is this model of the bass you have? The sides look amazing! All solid?
  16. weird enough nobody went for the Plank bass when it was for sale here. I think it’s a step above the JD sig: quality woods and hardware and NO control… i’m still super happy with it, and it cost me less than the JD sig… even weirder… the JD sig will sell for more with time and the Plank is probably impossible to sell although it’s worth double or more if you ask me..
  17. would you post to Belgium?
  18. David Gage Czech Ease travel double bass with hard-case which i got at a very fair price. I also enjoy very much the Squier Rascal and the HB Mustang basses. Very happy with the Mark bass Tube amp + GR carbon 10” speaker. The worst is yet to come perhaps?
  19. this exactly obviously the wrong place to ask this question, a very biased and presumptuous environment
  20. yes, i got the one i posted - red and black
  21. Yes, the 1/4 is definitely too small. I measured the bass and looked through the 1/2 options and this was the only one that seemed it could possibly maybe fit. And it just does. The bag is still a bit too long but because of that the bass fits where it otherwise wouldn't - it's bottom and bridge area are much deeper than on a 1/2 bass.
  22. update, in case anyone needs some info… bassbags can’t make one as they don’t have the patent or the blueprint… Gage is not replying at all… did a bit of measuring and then I bought a Roth@Junius 1/2 size from Thomann and as much as it’s not a perfect fit i think it will do the job just fine and certainly much better than the original which is falling apart.
  23. on the good side though.. i never heard about these speakers and because of this post i got to know about them
  24. i’m having the same problem with my Gage travel bass bag so i’m looking for a new one. I guess they could make a new one?
