Besides Rotosound and Newtone, people often forget about Picato who also make some great strings.

I feel sorry for him.
How many originals bands have never had a venue get back to them, producer, label, management etc.
We've all been there.

Decided to sell off the Aggie Th500 I had been using mainly as a stand by.
I have been using the Rumble 500 and (sometimes) a 210 extension cab for most of my gigs the past few years..decided I like the slightly overdriven and compressed sound I get from the Rumble.. ..anyway long story short a Bassman 500 was going locally and managed to pick it up for the same price I sold my TH for. Happy camper with the Bassman so far and might trade a spare cab I have to stick a 115 or another 210 under what I have now and keep the Rumble 500 combo for smaller gigs or when I can’t be bothered to shift the other stuff.
How does the Bassman OD compare to the Rumble?

Yeah, I was thinking Mastodon as well; the modern stuff is okay, but when listening to it I can't help but remember this band wrote Leviathan and Remission and then feel disappointed
Tell me Crack The Skye isn't a great album.

Use your ears. Don't look at graphs.

Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Admittedly the first 2 albums were a little iffy, but the 3rd album "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" album with the 'original' lineup of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Hillel Slovak & Jack Irons was quintessential RHCPs - funky, psychedelic mayhem. Then of course Hillel croaked and Jack left and in came John Frusciante. The next album "Mothers Milk" was IMO a bit of a stop-gap and then along came "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" which made them megastars. And then they were crap.
One Hot Minute is better than anything before BSSM!

I'm currently using D'Addario strings on my basses (and when I can afford them, DR Hi-Beams) but was wondering what Rotosound strings are like now? I haven't used them in years (read decades). I went from using them, to Ernie Ball Slinkys, to Bass Centre Elites and then onto D'Addario and DRs. As we approach leaving the EU I'd like to support a British firm and am contemplating using Rotosounds. Anyone use them regularly? Are they as inconsistent as they were back in the 80s? Do they still eat frets as everyone kept on telling me back then?
Hi Beams for £20 delivered direct from Amazon. I've ordered multiple sets over the years and they are the real deal.
For DR/Ken Smith/Fodera/La Bella strings, I use Bass Specialties on eBay. The prices have gone up roughly £5 over the last four to five years but they're still cheaper than the UK. No import duty either since the seller knows what he's doing.
Regarding Rotosound, I'm a fan. Their customer service is second to none. I had a dead string on arrival once and they sent me not only a replacement but a whole new set. I really like the Roto Bass nickels and think they age very well. They cut through a mix and have a really good mid punch to them.

I can do what I like! A ban is looking good right now. My advertisers will be happy too.
Suggest you stay out of Off Topic or you’ll find you no longer have access.
This is general discussion, not off topic.

No.
You can disable my posting rights but you can't ban me.
Gotta keep those advertisers happy with the 'high and active' user base...

i dont think michael manring or jhon patitucci or michael league ever made that much money from playing bass , making a living /career on YT and making a living being a musician is 2 separate things .
Davide makes a living doing videos that features a bass guitar
the guys named above (just few names but there are thousand of them ) make money playing bass that are features in video (videos being a secondary way of get their names out there .
Before youtube people used to buy magazines to discover new bass player, new bands, new sound ....,
so for a second just swap youtube for a bass mag for ex
so ..... Davide writes magazines about bass and he makes a great living .(probably better then the people featured in the magazine
The people featured in the magazine , thats what i care about no who write the magazine.
again personal opinion .
Go watch a Manring video then.

Has anyone actually played one yet?
Good news about the voltage, may pick one up when I'm over in the States next year.

You may not like it (or him) but this is the style you have to adopt now to acheieve 'sucess' on social media and make serious money off of it. I know it's not your proper version of bass playing etc. etc. but he appeals to the kids and the kids are making him money.
How many people here would watch his video 'Can you play Korn with Corn?' Yeah... silence. Don't watch his channel then.

Remember - there are a lot of people under 16 commenting on these videos. Even under 12s.

I don't think he is that bothered about a few throwaway comments.

If they could reissue the Civil War Muff circuit with that paint job in a nano enclosure and add a mid knob then I would be in heaven. The GR doesn't need a blend knob IMO, just the mids.

A happy home and family.

Quick question that is not clear online:
What do the Tusq XL nuts have that the non XL version doesn't?
Which one is best?

Took my bass to the same branch for a restring and set-up years back. Specifically asked for the bass to be set-up once the restring had happened. Came back a week later and they had only done the restring. What about the set-up I asked? They then said I didn't request that. Never again.

The tone control is a kind of band-pass or tilting eq, so without a blend, keeping it low is the only way to get a 'bass sound' out if it.
Also, more so than any other effect, Muffs sound immensely loud due to the way they clip. If you have an amp or channel with a clip light or level meter you can observe the phenomenon. Set the Muff to sound right and see how much lower the level really is. To get the same average level as a clean sound the Muff needs to be really ripping! It may sound ten times louder in isolation, but will give a similar presence once in the mix. So the best suggestion is to set the pedal in the mix rather than in isolation, or to put it far more enjoyably, when it comes to Muffs, if you can't hear them, crank 'em up til you can!
Good tips.
My GR Muff volume set at 9 o'clock is already past unity gain but in the mix is just right volume wise with the tone around 10/10.30.

Just glanced at the latest issue on the stands... It's the UK mag with the US cover. Pretty dismal... advertising rag for Warwick... Oh! with a Jim Roberts column thrown in at the end.
So exactly like BGM 10 years ago? 😂

The E might fit but the rest will not wrap around the capstan.

Which is still a £500 instrument.

A new set of DR Fat Beams just came through my letterbox. If you want steels that are broken in but still retain all of their SS punch with the flexibility of roundcores then these are perfect.
Bands you think were better before they got big
