Tokai basses

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like you cant really go wrong with a Japanese built one then!
2. Cheers Fraff! This bass is the mutts. I just checked the weight and it is 12kg. AndyKelly, looking on Parcelforce, shipping from Peterborough to Oxford would be £40.
3.
I'll be backstage/stage side on Sunday late afternoon/evening for Iron Maiden so may see you there...
Boooo *shakes fist at Cetera* I'm really looking forward to Sunday, hopefully the rain will hold off too. Did anyone see Rick Wakeman on Sunday at High Voltage. Me and my friend were walking along near the planet rock stand when my mate pointed him out and he suddenly became swamped by people. I felt sorry for him as everytime he took a step forward he'd have to do an autograph or pose for a photo. It probably took him all evening to cross the field haha
4. Just wondering if anyone here had used them before. Im looking around for someone, but ive heard reviews saying that the stock tuners and bridge arent good at all, however the body work is generally very good. Does anyone play any Tokai stuff and think they're good/bad?
5.
Lovely bass, good luck with the sale - I think you might want to double check that weight though, 4.5lbs is pretty light for any bass let alone a Sandberg
Yep, teaches me for posting at work as I scanned the net for a weight and wasnt thinking haha Cheers for the heads up.
6.
Wow... How much would shipping be in the UK? I live the other side of Oxford, a fair old drive from Peterborough.
Hi, I think shipping would be around the £50 mark, depending which courier I use. I'll have to check when im home for a exact quote though.
Hi What is the weight of this bass? What is the width at the nut? Cheers
Hey, im at work at the moment, but off the top of my head the nut width is 38mm and i'll have to check the weight when I get home.
7. I am selling my Sandberg JM4, which was made for me last September. The serial number is 9324 and the specs are as below; NECK 6 x bolted / canadian hardrock maple FRETBOARD 22 frets SCALE 864 mm / 34" BODY OPTIONS matt finish: european ash HARDWARE sandberg PICKUP 1 Delano J-style / 1 Delano M-style humbucker / PU-split PREAMP Sandberg 2-band, active / passive, passive tone control WEIGHT ~4Kg or just under 9lbs This bass is as NEW, there are literally no marks I can see on it, as I recieved it fresh from the Sandberg factory last September for a band which then got messed over by a label a few months later. This means the bass has been sat in its case for most of the time and it deserves to get out there and get played. This bass sounds extremely good and because of the J and M pickups, you can pretty much dial in any sound you need. It sounded amazing when I used it for recording, but its just a shame it wont get used. Photo's are below; This is the bass having the finishing touches done in the Sandberg factory. This was £1250 brand new and as this is in such good condition I will be looking for £750 O.N.O (UK shipping included). It comes with the Sandberg gig bag that is sent out with these basses. I am looking to change my rig for a lightweight option, so i'm interested in Markbass, Genz Benz and the Orange Terror amps, plus £250 my way. Make me an offer anyway! I am willing to deliver within a reasonable distance, as I dont want it getting knocked about in transport. Reply here or PM me if you are interested or have any questions! Thanks, Geoff
8.
Go Smalls! Love that Big Bottom!
You want to love Derek Smalls big bottom? I have a few open sections in places, but there's more boxer re-adjustment than air punching unfortunately!
9. Sorry to hear that dude. Could you maybe try playing an upright for a bit, then at least you may be able to find yourself a band on that? Saying that I dont know what kind of music you're into, so anything involving uprights may not be your thing! Also just noticed that you cant do rock climbing cos of the injury, could you maybe do more relaxed indoor climbing to strengthen everything up? I find that if ive had a break from climbing I get backache, as climbing seems to regulate my posture, which gets totally messed up at work etc.
10.
Or brand an inverted cross into your forehead like Glen Benton of Deicide...
They should copy Gorgoroths Warsaw stage show.... ....there were Crucifix's in it haha
11. As you're non-religious, do you really want to be associated with something you dont believe in? I'd walk purely on that fact, plus there's no point getting involved in something that feels this shady. There's enough people in the music industry who'll mess you about anyway, so you might as well step back from this and enter a competition you'd enjoy.
12. The thing is none of this actually matters. Saying that you buy something for the music and only for the music is silly, as music is aesthetic. Once you've got food and shelter, everything in life is icing on the cake. Humans dont need to make music to survive, we do it for aesthetic reasons (theoretically).
13. Who cares what anyone plays, ultimately its down to the music you produce and the pleasure you get from that. I personally dont see the need to get a 'custom' instrument, as i'm extremely happy with the basses ive got, but if someone wants a specific bass then there's no reason why anyone should say that they shouldnt be able to. Free will people
14. Backline to me means lending out drum shells and cabs and I would never expect to use anyone elses amp (mine's got my sound at the end of the day!) I can understand lending out cabs, especially when other bands have to travel far, but amps and drum breakables can easily be fit in any car. I really dont get why anyone would be playing live if they dont own thier own gear, seems totally stupid to me.
15.
Er...'Bugera' amplifiers? Sorry, but did no-one at Behringer HQ check to see what that sorta sounds like in English? Hmmm...
I dont think Behringer have bothered to find out what there equipment sounds like in any language haha
16. Sandberg, but I would say that. They may be able to do a custom finish for you too, if you ask. I was going to get a hi-gloss blackburst finish which isnt standard at all, but they said the colours may bleed if done as high gloss, so settled for the matt finish. Plus the neck on my new Sandberg is fricking amazing and the Delano's its fitted with are nice and growly.
17. I tend to have a piss just before going on stage and then just hope for the best. I do seem to have to send a million texts on the day of a gig to arrange who is going in who's car, as my drummer and keyboardist dont drive.
18. Seeing this may have just answered a question ive had about a Sandberg ive had for a qhile. I always thought it was a Bullet series, but it looks almost exactly the same as yours, except that mine has a single Bartolini fitted and a single piece neck. What serial number is this if you dont mind me asking? Mine has a serial number of 700 and something.
19. Yeah I think i'll have to go down the overdubbing route. I ramped up the compression on the amp, but like jonny-lad said, it was quite intrusive. Ive been playing this song live for over a year now, so im going to be interested to hear how these parts sound properly in the mix. Recording is always the time when you realise youve been playing something glaringly cack for the last couple of years haha
20. It does do yeah, but I havent noticed that much difference using it. Saying that I have to use that shoddy cab in the practise rooms so that probably negates anything I do with my amp. I'll try through my cab at home.
21. What finish are you looking for then? I need to bring mine over at some point for you to try out. The neck on it is amazingly smooth. I love it!
22. Im recording with my band in just over a week and have to record a tapped section in one of the songs. Whenever I play it though, the bass just seems to drop out of the mix and wondered if anyone had any tips to keep the bass presence there whilst doing that section. Should I play a bassline following the chords and then record the tapped section over that or are there any effects tools I can use to keep the sound beefed up? Im using a Sandberg JM4 through my EBS TD650, so can get a range of tones out of it. I just want to be prepared before I go in so im not wasting time.
23.
I saw some of your set at Bloodstock in August. Great stuff and congrats on the endorsement!
+1 The Bloodstock set was good. Nice to see your band is getting somewhere. Well done!
24. Ah nice one mrcrow. Im sure i'll not worry about it getting dirty in the future, but its brand new so i'll put some effort in for a few weeks at least haha
