1.
Otherwise, I would go a bit further afield and pay a visit to PMT in Birmingham. Best shop in the Midlands bar none.
I've seen many recommendations for PMT. But when I go on their website, there seems to be limited choice. Mostly Ibanez, some Trabens (reviews of which seem mixed, though at one point I was attracted to the Array in the same way that a Magpie goes for shiny metal objects), a couple of Line 6 basses, and a Washburn acoustic. Is the in-store selection wider? Otherwise, it seems a good shop to visit if they have what you want, but not for general browsing. Is this wrong?
 2. Why do you want holes in your bass? Purely cosmetic? Weight reduction?
 3. And the advantages of buying here just keep on mounting up. Look at this post. You can't ask that kind of detail anywhere else I know of: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...st&p=274654
 4. Yep, the positives (e.g. buying back ) just keep on rolling in. I really like watching the basses for sale forum. It's like a sweetshop and a soap opera combined, with all these great basses rolling in. Then you get to follow what happens(ed) to them. I'm even following some of the parallel ebaying for them on my watchlist.

 6. Just curious here, but I've noted that there seems to be a fair amount of selling basses to each other going on here. I note this post in the basses for sale forum.
I was one of the previous owners of this bass, and it really is a good example of how a Fender should sound and play.
Just out of curiosity, does this happen a lot. While I'm not planning on buying anything soon, I'm interested in how basschat works as an equipment source. As looking at the "for sale" sections, it looks like any future bass needs I will have can be satisfied here. And if you can track the instrument through several owners, well, that's something you can't usually do! While I'm not in a purchasing mood now (sorry), I look at instruments such as a six-string Peavey grind bass for £200, and realise that beautiful looking through neck six strings are not just something that I can salivate about online, but something that I can quite easily purchase without impinging on other things (and family members).
 7.
Yes, some really interesting shapes on the website. The new Poseidon is interesting! I think this one is different enough to be cool but not too wacky!
The Poseidon looks fantastic. But it looks a bit fragile to me. I could imagine bits breaking off if the bass is mishandled. The bass for sale is a beautiful bass too. Someone who works for that company is a true artist.
 8. Here's the only price I could find on a J&D bass guitar in the UK. Not the same one, so I'm not sure if this post is of use to anyone. http://www.visionguitars.co.uk/shop/articl...JDbass01.001%26
 9.
Sorry if I missed your PM this week has it was my birthday over the weekend and was out quite a lot! Still up for grabs.
Sorry about me being impatient. But I'd been trying to buy a bass for a long while. Your bass looks a great deal and I'm sure someone will grab it.
 10. I thought it was funny when I first saw those pictures. But I've spent a lot of time on ebay over the past few weeks. And those pictures kept turning up in the "featured products" (or whatever) bit at the top. After a while it got tiring.

 12.
great score for £120 i reckon
I haven't got much equipment yet. No bass amp, no bass effects. But I plugged it into my Behringer X-VAMP anyhow. Just using the (presumably) guitar orientated presets, there are some very nice tones to be found in this combination. To my inexperienced ears at least. I'm "very 'appy", as Italian Formula One drivers say.
 13. What's this about the megatar being good news for musicians who find making music hard to learn? http://www.megatar.com/
Good News for Musicians! You just Want to Play Music? But ... it’s too hard to learn? Then here’s some Good News ... Making Music just Got Easier.
Somehow I am doubtful about a stick-like instrument being easy to learn. As for comments about playing on stick versus extended range bass, I found this today. And this is just a regular looking bass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9a4ThBNacY
 14.
It wasn't Jim Lampi, was it? He used to play on the doorstep of Rose Morris in Denmark St, and has a few albums out. He hasn't done much busking for years, though, since he's been backing John Martyn.
The only time I ever saw a stick being played live was on the doorstep of Rose Morris. Been to a couple of Peter Gabriel concerts, but don't remember Tony Levin ever playing a stick at them.
 15.
as far as I can see this is a single coil J style, but you can check this on the back of your headstock (should be a small sticker)
Hmm.... I am asking about several basses at once, so I'm a bit hesitant to ask much. Would it be too much, at this stage, for me to ask the OP to record a bit of the bass, adjusting the controls to get a variety of sounds, and send me an MP3 (or similar)?
 16. Just to prove that I'm not a $£%$^%* who always runs down prices, I think Jimmy got a bargain. Lowest online price I found was £349 plus something p&p. There's a shop near me selling a Shine six-er for £200 s/h. There was previously a gumtree advert, naming the same road as the shop, offering a Shine six-er for £100. I wonder if the shop bought it.
 17. The reviews for the BB404 mention two seemingly quite different instruments. The BB404, and the BB404N. Does your instrument have single coil J style pickups, or two humbuckers? Do you know where it was made?
 18.
I prefer my apples without bruises, so tread carefully around the cart please.
Post above now deleted. I think I'm definitely a "(dis)Harmony Central" kinda guy.
 19.
4. If you have a problem with the price of an item on the forum, stating it in an aggressive way on the thread undermines the sellers listing. Often however feedback on fair pricing is useful and constructive. Bear this in mind and be considerate and vigilant. If anyone is seen being aggressive or SERIOUSLY overpricing an item them you are best off sending a PM to the member and to a moderator. The best policy is that if you do not like the price, move on. The seller won’t sell and you avoid any arguments.
Fair enough. I'm new around here, but am not an internet newbie and am quite used to "robust" online debate. I'll delete my post (if the board allows it) from another thread. You've quoted my post here, so deleting it won't help.
 20. Reviews on Harmony Central look promising. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...nez/GSR200/10/1 I've played both the Stagg BC300 (*), and the Yamaha RBX170, which seem quite similar basses. Modern style P&J pickups. I liked both. How much for some sort of insured delivery to Leicester? What forms of payment do you accept? If it would be less than 1.5m packed, then royal mail standard parcels might work. Only £1 extra for the insurance. http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content...ediaId=51000711 (*) The reviews for the Stagg BC300 generally aren't good, but I *really enjoyed* playing it. The only thing that stopped me buying it at the time was that the second rate "Cash converters" imitation shop (yes, even worse than Cash Converters) are tools. If I end up going for a trip to London to look for basses, I'm definitely including it in the list of things I try.
 21.
think they go fora wee bit more than that new
I was going to post another "here's a new price" link. Oh, I will. £170 + about £6-7 postage. http://www.dv247.com/invt/37230/product.ht...c1181_a_7c37230 But the hard case is worth a bit if it's a good 'un.
 22.
I hope you're exaggerating
Don't say I didn't warn you. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=280861
 23. I live in Leicester, so Coventry is feasible. Though, I don't own a car. How far are you from the train station or poole meadows coach station? I'd prefer to travel not so that I can save the postage, but so that I could try out the bass. At present I don't have a bass! I have the "Bass Guitar for Dummies" book and am running through exercises on the lower four strings of my six string. I was going to put myself out of my misery by buying an Aria STB PB bass for the reasons that it's cheap, is said to be competently made, and would mean that I'd have a bass here. I'm not planning to learn to be Jaco, I would just like to be able to play vaguely competent lead, rhythm, and bass, and be able to record songs. Not at professional quality. Previously I was thinking that a Yammie RBX170 would be my purchase. I like the idea of a five string, but don't want to drop a wad, and have heard that cheap five string basses can be problematic. E.g. does your 765 have the boominess on the 5th string that some have reported: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/archive/inde...p/t-122641.html. And do you have trouble getting the battery to fit properly? http://www.bgra.net/2004/review.php?id=1373&type=bass. I'm really after a pretty normal rock/pop bass sound. I don't like the "metallic" metal sound. The RBX170 had that metal sound a bit with some tone/pickup settings, but I could dial that sound out and get a range of tones that I liked. So, the ball's in your court. Let's see you sell me your bass. Edit: In case this looks too "aggressive", I meant "the ball's in your court" in a joking sort of way. And the reviews were generally quite positive, or I wouldn't have posted here. There were just some minor niggles, the ones I asked about.
 24. Hello to all on Basschat. I'm from Leicester. My username should tell you all you need to know.
