  1. Re-release version. It’s been used, so isn’t pristine but works fine. Velcro on the base. No original box.

  2. I think there’s some variation in Fender pickup sizes - some are the same length (long-long), but most are short-long like these. This may help? https://bartolini.net/2025/04/17/fender-j-bass/
  3. No - there’s a neck and bridge https://nordstrandaudio.com/products/51j4s
  4. I wanted to fit these to an FGN jazz bass because I love the 51 P tone. However, I don’t have as much experience of upgrading as I thought, and didn’t realise J pickups come in slightly different sizes. Subsequently, the neck pickup case has some marks and filing around the ears because it’s slightly larger than the cavity on my bass. They also need a bass with a more curved radius - the inner pole pieces are raised slightly.
  5. My last audition, I got to learn some songs I love but had never had the chance to play with a band previously. Afterwards, I realised that even if I didn’t get the gig, I really enjoyed the opportunity. An established band will have history. There will be private jokes and shared gig memories that you are not party to. When these are referred to, prepare to feel a bit awkward, and practice having an expressionless face!
  6. Ooh. I’m not sure. I don’t think so. This is the spec: https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.html?modelCode=HE020
  7. Well-used 250w combo with 115 speaker. It’s a bit battered; the vinyl has some small tears; the corner protectors are missing from the top (but the bottoms are in place); the post/pre DI button is missing. But it sounds great and only weighs 17kg!
  8. I got one from the local tip shop. It needed cleaning, and a replacement handle. It’s the older version, and I can’t connect my laptop to the TonePrint downloads. So it’s just got a chorus on the TP control. It has a separate drive control, and sounds quite good. (I don’t really need it - I’ve offered it to my son’s school as a free loan because they don’t have a bass amp, but they’ve taken over 6 months to think about whether they want it or not)
  9. I bought this beautiful bass last year for a project that has managed just two gigs in 18 months. I recently joined a new band and now need a different coloured bass. Before I bought it, I tried out the Squier and US versions, and this one has by far the smoothest, most playable, modern-feeling neck. It weighs 3.8kg / 8.4lb. It’s a joy to play, and the pickup is thunderous. I’ve swapped in the Retrovibe 4-brass-saddle dual-entry bridge for easier intonation (the original will be included). There’s a small dink by the bridge (pictured). Otherwise, there are no marks. It’s got new GR Balanced Nickel strings, and comes with a Fender gigbag. However. While it’s perfectly playable with a low action, the truss rod won’t tighten any further. The action at 12 fret is 3mm, so it’s fine with lower tension strings, but would struggle with thicker gauges. That’s why I’m selling so cheap.
  10. I’ve made mine passive by swapping in an EMG GZR p/u. So it’s now a lightweight passive p-bass with a jazz neck, a clever bridge and a monster sound! £400 for a VS4 is a bargain.
  11. Hi H = 44cm (incl feet) W = 47.5cm D = 40cm (51 P bass pic for comparison purposes!)
  12. The iPhone app allows autoplay to turned off:
  13. Lightweight 115 cab; originally part of a two-piece combo, but without the amp now. It’s not in pristine condition, so it was excellent for my pub band (now folded). 17kg - you can carry it with one hand. 500w @ 4ohms. Tilts back. 15” neodymium speaker. Always-on tweeter. Mainland UK delivery £20
  14. Thanks Phill It seems that, while threads on here about basses and amps can give you a pretty good idea of what difference each can make, questions about speakers & cabs lead to Economist Syndrome (If you put 10 economists in a room, you’ll get 11 opinions…). Presumably this is because the setups and playing situations have too many variables. The singer is sourcing a mixer. She already has a Soundcraft Signature 16, but says she’s looking for something better. I think that means we’re ok for IEMs
  15. I recently joined a newly-formed band (female vocals; 2 guitars; bass & drums), planning to play pubs and social clubs etc First gig is mid-June. We want to go through the desk so we can IEM. The guitarist just bought a pair of Yamaha DXR15s. If the speakers go on poles, will I (and drummer) need a sub on the floor? If so, would I get away with a 15” powered sub, or does it need to be 18” because the tops are 15”? (Else would it be an option to have one DXR speaker on a pole and the other on the floor, or is that just silly?!) Thanks
