  1. Lightweight 115 cab; originally part of a two-piece combo, but without the amp now. It’s not in pristine condition, so it was excellent for my pub band (now folded). 17kg - you can carry it with one hand. 500w @ 4ohms. Tilts back. 15” neodymium speaker. Always-on tweeter. Mainland UK delivery £20

  2. Thanks Phill It seems that, while threads on here about basses and amps can give you a pretty good idea of what difference each can make, questions about speakers & cabs lead to Economist Syndrome (If you put 10 economists in a room, you’ll get 11 opinions…). Presumably this is because the setups and playing situations have too many variables. The singer is sourcing a mixer. She already has a Soundcraft Signature 16, but says she’s looking for something better. I think that means we’re ok for IEMs
  3. I recently joined a newly-formed band (female vocals; 2 guitars; bass & drums), planning to play pubs and social clubs etc First gig is mid-June. We want to go through the desk so we can IEM. The guitarist just bought a pair of Yamaha DXR15s. If the speakers go on poles, will I (and drummer) need a sub on the floor? If so, would I get away with a 15” powered sub, or does it need to be 18” because the tops are 15”? (Else would it be an option to have one DXR speaker on a pole and the other on the floor, or is that just silly?!) Thanks
  4. I’m happy to play free for friends, but for “commercial” gigs would expect something, even if it’s only £25. This is 100% down to the need to feed my GAS habit - all the cash goes into my Bass Savings account. In my case, charging a fee is entirely the fault of BassChat. 😉
  5. I’m was in Giggear today, my local stockist of Ashdown basses. They’re not allowed to advertise or display these any more due to a lawsuit by Gibson. So they have rarity value (as well as sounding awesome!)
  6. Gary bought my Spector Coda - a very pleasant chat and handover. Gary organised it all very efficiently ( it’s almost as though he buys and sells a lot on BC!)
  7. Alder body with stunning figured maple top; 16” radius, slender, one-piece rock maple neck with rosewood board; 38mm micarta nut; Locking, top-loading bridge with 17mm string spacing; EMG HZ pickups; Preamp is now a Glockenklang 2-band (V-Bl-Tr-B) with push/pull passive switch and passive tone control; Weighs 9.1lb: nicely balanced and relatively light for a jazz bass (my wife has been playing it exclusively for the past year) It’s got a couple of small dings that haven’t broken the lacquer, and a graze near the output jack; I’m selling cheap because the previous owner drilled 3 small holes near the bridge pickup - experimenting with thumb rests apparently. You could probably add a thumb rest to cover the holes, but I’ve just filled them. Happy to meet up (within reason) or can post insured to UK mainland for £35.
  8. These. https://www.toneally.co.uk/product-page/silent-sticks Drummer in one of my bands uses these when we play in church - feel like proper sticks when playing (so he can really let rip on the rocky songs), but reduce volume to an appropriate level.
  9. I feel very comfortable with Clayton nylon 0.8mm where I’m using a pick for power chords. But I’ve also found that thicker, stubby Dunlop jazz IIs are best for aggressive single notes (like Foo Fighters).
  10. If I gig, it’s normally in pubs with a loud drummer and very loud guitarist. I’ve been offered a TC Electronic BG 250w 1x15 combo (“light and super powerful”). I also have a 600w Behringer 112 powered PA speaker. While the combo seems quite loud, I can imagine that in some venues I might need more “breadth” as opposed to straightforward “volume” in order to have sufficient impact vs drums/guitar. So. Can I take a DI feed from the combo into the PA speaker and therefore have a 115 and 112 running side by side? e.g. if I feel the combo is a bit lost in the room, I can add the PA speaker to the combo to widen the range and move more air overall? (And will the DI out use the preamp from the bass amp, so the PA speaker is voiced more for a bass?)
  11. I had a similar problem with a neck on a MIJ 51p (2023). OK with 3 sets of strings (original Fenders; Black Smith coated 45-100; TI Jazz flats 43-100). But when I put GHS Pressurewounds on (44-102), the truss rod wouldn’t tighten anywhere near enough. I gave it to @Garymac last week, and he’s worked on it over the weekend: he may have some ideas.
  12. Good point (assuming the adhesive on the tape wouldn’t impact the lacquer)
  13. I’m not sure I want to drill holes in my bass yet, and I object to the cost of postage from the States. So I’m using a mini suction cup as a temporary solution.
  14. Another +1 for the Laney Digbeth. Although recently when I needed one pedal for an outdoor gig with no spare mains power points, I took a Zoom MS-60B (I didn’t need anything fancy, just a preamp and tuner that could run on batteries)
  15. Popped up in my Facebook feed: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1p5NDaS7DRYZtJU9/?mibextid=WC7FNe 🚨 Missing bass!! Please share this post!🚨 Hi all. My bass was taken between Sunday and Tuesday from the Guildhall School of Music. Please keep an eye out for it. Please check your local pawn shops, music shops etc and contact me directly if you see it. It’s a unique custom made 5-string bass with through-neck construction. There’s only one of these in the world so it’s pretty distinctive! It was in a tweed Ibanez powerpad padded gig back (pictured). Thanks
