1.
Yeah, i'm a big fan of the Harma Diamond STR - They are a premium selected and tested JJ made ECC803S clone as you rightly say. Brilliant tone - I may end up with another, just fancied trying something a little different. Would love to find me a nice Tesla Short Plate E83CC!
Hi Dan, What are you using the valves in ? Is it the Hartke ?
2. I'm not disputing that they're not good, because they are. I just feel that they're very expensive for what they are. The Aguilar GS410, is a whole £200 cheaper ! http://www.bassmerchant.com/item_detail.php?product_id=97 I also get annoyed when I see the slogan 'extreme accuracy'. They're not accurate, not in my mind anyway. They have a very distinct sound, a low mid bump. If you don't like that sound then you're stuck, 'cos it's hard to get rid of.
3.
A little bump of this question to Soliloquy... I'm genuinely intrigued:
I've owned an IP112 and the 112 extension cab, and a separate pair of 112 cabs, and I've gigged with a borrowed 4x10. My Acme B2 was deeper, clearer and more accurate than the 4x10, and my single B1 is deeper, a lot clearer and more accurate than the 1x12's. I don't just say things unless I've experience of them. I wouldn't pay £960 for a Bergantino 4x10 cab. There are better cabs available for a lot less money. My choice of Acme is one example, but Epifani also spring to mind.
4.
Hmm... now - can I think of another product like that? Oh yes - Chord Cables.
I agree, but I was given them . There's a huge difference between a £40 cable though and a £960 cabinet. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...s_speakers.html Any other decent cable with set you back about £30.
5.
Hi and thanks for replying. The ACM hdip course is £3750 and the course is for 1 year. How does that compare to the ICMP course? I looked on the site but couldn't find the course cost. Thanks a lot
The ICMP course is over £5000, that's a huge difference. blackmn90 is quite right, Kilburn isn't the most salubrious of areas . Do you know that they have a similar course at BIMM in Bristol, only asking 'cos your thing shows you live in Dorset. Bristol would be a lot cheaper to live in.
6. Check out the reviews on Talkbass, there are hundreds on there.
7. If you REALLY want to hear your low B, then get an Acme Low B2. It's a 2x10 that sounds like a 4x10, and really does broadcast your low B. It's also probably the 'flattest' sounding cab out there. Even with shipping and import duty it's a lot cheaper than Bergantino cabs. Which to my mind are way over priced and over hyped, mainly to justify the over pricing. See what Dood has to say about his B2. I have a B1 (1x10), it sounds amazing. I plan to get another in the next month or so.
8. I'm told the ICMP higher diploma course is better, more face to face tuition. A friend of mine is head there, but I do believe him. How much is the course ?
9. I've traded in person and by post. In person I've travelled to Scotland twice, and various motorway service stations. I've traded a tuner pedal and this last week a fairly expensive amp by post. Trusting the people involved is a must. Get their phone numbers and addresses, and exchange tracking numbers. If it's a small item, like a pedal, then send it by 'next day' recorded delivery or special delivery. I've also sold a few items, as opposed to trading. Again it's trust, and being honest about what you're selling. Remember that one persons idea of 'mint condition' and yours may be something totally different. I love it when you see an advert worded " mint condition apart from the usual wear and tear associated with gigging, a couple of dings and bumps". Mint is mint, a dinged and bumped bass isn't mint.
10. A friend of mine has an Alembic F1-X preamp. I remember spending a few hours with him one day experimenting with different valves. There was a noticeable difference between them. I just spoke to him and he thinks he settled on a Telefunken valve (great name !), He's going to take the top off and have a look see what sort. I wonder if changing the valve in my Shuttle 6 would make it less aggressive sounding.
11. Very good, thanks !
12. I've recently been given some nice Chord cables, so my Vovox cables can go to a new home. They're fantastic cables, very well made. Straight jack to jack, 4 metres long - £25 posted. 1 metre speakon to speakon - £10 posted.
13. I have the following DVD's for sale - 'Resonances' - French tour live 2008 - £15 posted. 'Bass guitar' - demonstrates how to play tunes from his 'Thonk' album - £10 posted.
14.
yeah but Ashdown are really great amps
I'm not implying otherwise. It's just that AJ normally uses some ridiculously expensive rig, and there he was with a music college Ashdown combo still sounding awsome.
15.
Ok, it's four or five years old but it's this kind of thing that always makes me want to slap on a P bass.
Listen to Rufus live at the Savoy for slapped P bass.
16. I hate DJ's so rarely listen to the radio, if I don't have a choice then I tune to Radio 3 or what was Virgin. I don't own a TV and don't watch films . I live a sheltered life LOL.
17.
But I have never heard of Justice? Katy Perry happens to be an international act with millions of sales. For all the KP fans (perverts!) search for her on YouTube having her breasts covered in paper mâché and that's not a euphemism!
You know, seriously I've never heard of her.
18. I love AJ's playing and his whole philosophy. I was lucky enough to meet him at a masterclass at ICMP a couple of years ago. You know it's funny, people spend thousands on amps and cabs. (including him). He was using his Fodera through an Ashdown rig, he still sounded amazing. Just shows that it's the player and not the gear.
19. I just took this in a trade for my Markbass LMII, I was having second thoughts about trading the LMII, but I went ahead with the deal. I'm thinking I made a mistake though . I've spent all day playing with it, trying to get a sound that I like. It's quite an aggressive sounding amp, with my basses anyway, and not really what I want. I think it'd be ideal for rock or maybe modern funk type music. It's in good condition, just a couple of minor scratches on the top, but the front is perfect. It works perfectly, it's just not 'my' sound. For sale for £400, or trade for a Markbass LMII or LMIII, or an F1 or maybe an SA450, I like EA iAmps too, or possibly even an Eden head. Cash either way as required.
20. Yeah, drum sticks, not chop sticks.
21.
Played to a packed pub on Saturday, about 200 through the door, we got paid bugger all but the it was the last music night at the Lamb in West Malvern, the best pub venue in the area, sold by Punch Taverns to we don't know who, at least it is not going to be pulled down,,,,. yet ... we stopped the last attempt. . There are other smaller pub venues around here and a few social clubs that are happy to have music events, lots of open mic and jam nights in pubs, they realise it gets punters in. . The Theatres [ used to be Malvern Winter Gardens ] was on the band circuit but the management stopped it a few years back, corporate image and all that. Best bet if you can't get gigs in pubs is to hire a church hall or youth centre and put on a music event of your own, publicity is really, really important though.
My Mom's friend owns a pub in Malvern (don't know what it's called), he tried having music nights, but stopped due to lack of interest from the public.
