all good advice chaps. I think as long as the action is fairly playable he wont be too fussed about sound perfection. i will invest in a "proper" bass for him or even give him one of mine when he proves its not just a 5 minute fad. as for the ibanez , that is beautiful looking ! i really like the look of that, i prefer short scale so i may just buy one for myself er... just to see if it will suit him. gonna have a trawl through the interweb to see if there is anything 1/2 scale that he can tinker with

Hi all. are there any basses out there that would fit a smallish 9 year old ? my boy is starting to take a real interest in bass (more importantly MY bass) i bought him a childs 6 string to try and satisfy his curiosity , but he has learnt the opening line to "another one bites the dust" amongst other bits and bobs on bass and is becoming a serious risk to my guitars. he just wants a bass ! anyone know of anything very light and very short scale that is not going to break the bank ? any advice would be appreciated cheers bob

each to their own i suppose, its noels opinion and he's entitled to it. and while we are on the subject of personal opinions after seeing noels effort when he played wont get fooled again with the Who he gave me the distinct opinion that he didnt like rock music as well after the way he slaughtered it. -

Hi all. My latest bout of G.A.S led me to evil bay , and whilst browsing through the quality merchandise on offer i came across something i wish i could unsee . not wishing to give people the impression that to play and sound good it has to be beautiful looking and all sparkly new , but ugly is ugly. this was a HONDO bass that looked like it was the result of a one night stand betwwen a deformed P bass body and some kind of 80s curly haired pop rock shredder type neck . i have searched to find a link to the picture but it looks like someone actually bought it or the seller couldnt stand the shame anymore and removed it. not sure what kinda gear they were chuffing on in the HONDO design room on that particular day but whatever it was it must have been good. just for fun (and to try and rid my mind of the abhoration i saw) how about seeing anything that you have come across that is er......aesthetically challenged. cheers bob

update guys. action is a bit lower , but having an annoying butt across all strings at the 17th fret. anything that can be done? didnt want to shell out loads as the bass is only a cheapy. cheers bob
-
yeah it is. its still high ish on the D and G but not impossibly high. its a £40 bass so i wasnt that fussed if it went tits up or not ,but all things considered its not a bad bass . for the tone alone i am willing to let the more than shoddy build quality issues alone. one thing i will say in favour of this copy is that you could not even squeeze bacteria in the neck cavity, it was that tight that i thought the neck was actually glued as well. its as light as hell and the neck dive is atrocious but its a bash about so its ready to go on its 1000 hotels tour until it dies.

it worked ! wow what a difference. thank you guys

thanks guys. i am doing it as we speak.

The neck releif seems bob on it was a bit buzzy up on the 19th fret but that adjusted out. i think a shim it is then. any recommended materials ?

Hiyall. I do a lot of work away from home and wanted to buy a bass that i could cart from hotel to hotel without having to worry about damaging it. So i saw a cheap and cheerful P Bass copy up for sale and decided to part with £40 to get it. this is my first full length bass as i have always played short scale , so it served a double purpose as i wanted to see how i got along with long scale. the build quality of this instrument is exactly as you would expect from a £40 guitar , but the tone aint too shabby. the one problem i have is the string height , despite adjusting the bridge to as low as it could go they are still very high. it looks to have fairly light guage strings on it , would putting heavier guage on help ? or would putting a shim on the neck be a solution ? or is it that full size basses are just different in string height and i just that i need to man up a bit . any advice would be apreciated cheers bob

3 point bridge alternatives
addictedtobass replied to addictedtobass's topic in Repairs and Technical
i saw the epi bass with hipshot bridge ,if memory serves it was the one that the guy had sanded down on the top part. should have bought it ! will do as advised and keep trawling the for sale sections. but i think first port of call is to my local luthier to see if he can set up the bass so its at least there or there abouts. i think that would be a sensible starting point, at least i know i have a straight neck etc . thanks so much for your sage advice fellas. i love the bass so if i have to shell out money then its worth it. bob
